Also the fact that it's in Uzbekistan might have some effect, where is that place anyway (no offence). But obviously as said RG qualies are also effecting here.

Highest guy on the list is Evans at 218, and he has been awful for a long while. At least it is a good opportunity for points for a younger player.

Indeed, the location also has a role. If we consider location, RG qualies, another Challenger in same week, 9 futures and the type (50K), the list is not that poor actually.
BTW, Uzbekistan is in Central Asia.

Still he has been decadent and others are rising in the ranking, so it's not an easy task for him :p

No, it isn't :) I doubt he will win or start the tournament as the highest seed. The tournament is really wide open for anyone to win, and that is good points for any of these guys.

suprised sam groth isn't playing. Very high altitude event which results in fast courts and makes groth's always effective serve almost unplayable. Last year against Kirillov he served 19 aces in 24 1st serves which has to be a record

Honestly I think there's still a huge gap for the Chinese players on the men side, but when it hits, you're not going to miss it.
I'm patiently waiting for a talent from China to someday roll in to my signature as to show my support and a lil' recognition.

why? did you see the match on the website and then he disappered? or it's just your opinion?
maybe rain?

Only my opinion :)

so i think that in this case you are wrong, the 3rd match on the center court hasn't started yet, and it should have started by now if someone retired in Okun's match.
so the most reasonable option is rain, which interrupt the matches on Monday.

Does anyone know who was the last Chinese male to win an ATP or Challenger tournament?

chewy
05-22-2010, 06:39 AM
I believe no Chinese player have even made it to an ATP Challenger singles final before ZZ, at least not in the last decade.

Sun Peng was probably the highest ranked player from China in the past decade but I think he only made it to QF in Challengers.

ZZ could be setting new records...so far he's won 7 straight matches

Zhang Z. - Kudryavtsev A.----SF...6-2, 7-6
Zhang Z. - Martin A.----QF...6-4, 4-6, 6-4
Zhang Z. - Duclos P.----R16...7-5, 5-7, 6-2
Zhang Z. - Bubka S.----1R...6-3, 6-2
Zhang Z. - Matsui T.----Q-QF...6-2, 6-2
Zhang Z. - Suleymanov S.----Q-R16...6-1, 6-0
Zhang Z. - Gasparyan E.----Q-1R...6-4, 6-2

:) You're welcome, I was already digging up records as I wanted to know as well.

It's a shame ZZ lost, it was within reach and he even took a set
Congrats are in order to Kirillov who probably held his nerves better to win his maiden title.

But like many have said, it's been a great run for this young Chinese player currently ranked 470. He should jump more then 100 places by reaching this final to around 350's in the world, not far from Sun Peng(career high of 290)!
I'm looking forward to reading more of him in the near future and maybe eventually get to watch his game.
