MC SF: Nadal thumps Ferrer 6-2 6-3

Expected and despite Ferrer having periods where he'd be striking the ball so well toe to toe with the King, the King would only up the tempo and leave Ferrer behind.

Could have been closer but there's no way Ferrer could have kept up the intensity he needed to even win those 5 games. He did well and showed guts to break when Nadal was serving for match at 5-2 but all did was anger the King and he immediately lost his service game and match to 30.

Nadal's serve was shocking at times with some untimely double faults and patches where his first serve was virtually inexistant. The few times he lost his serve he at least recovered to re-break Ferrer. Far from a great game by Rafa but as the saying goes "6-2 6-3 if i play bad match, no?"

It looks as if his countrymen bend over for him, but in reality they're no match.

He lost in '03 to Coria in another lifetime. Good match overall, just too good. It'll be interesting to see though how he copes if the matches get tight.

Slightly surprised that Ferrer managed to break him twice, but Rafa was obviously untroubled at any point..

Ferrer is a baseliner who is in his confort zone from the back of the court enjoying rallies. The problem is that is not enough to beat Nadal.
Playing agressive going for shots and putting a few good drop shots and coming to net from time to time and having + winners/errors ratio is important to have a shot in beating Nadal on clay

Nadal is playing some great tennis, the only problem is he still has a bit of a problem closing out matches, he needs more wins and more confidence, if he gets it, it will be difficult to see him even losing a set.

Me too, but it's because he wasn't putting any in at break points.

Solid performance by Nadal.

I still think Djokovic could take this title, though, should he get past Verdasco.

All credits to Rafa but it's really sad to watch such pathetic display from other side of the court and losing the match already in locker room

Ferrer best chance to beat Rafa are far from clay, for me he's one of the few Spanish who don't feel 100 % well on that surface.

Nope it's not because Federer decided not to play. I can't wait for the huge Estoril tourney aka the 5th Slam!!!

clay is the ultimate playground in tennis........it's always fascinating to watch players trying to outlast their opponents from the back on clay.......you need to think 2-3 shots in advance to finish a point.......brains and strength.......it's like 'physical chess' in display.......look at the beautiful surface below.......so refreshing on the eye.......

While Ferrer looks comfortable on clay movement-wise, his shots just don't have enough power/penetration to move through the court. It's kind of like when Federer plays Hewitt, and Hewitt just acts as a human ball machine for Fed. That's what I see in Nadal and Ferrer's match-up on clay.

I expected a more difficult match...anybody knows if somebody has lost less games than nadal reaching a MS final?

I disagree. Monte-Carlo is Nadal's favorite tournament or at least the tournament that suits his game the most. Ferrer would definitely prefer a faster surface. Even Barcelona is faster than this. I predicted 6-3 6-2. ;)

13 games dropped in 4 MS matches.

The gap between clayGOAT and the rest has never been greater.

Well, slow hardcourts are Ferrer's fave surface for sure.

Jimnik
04-17-2010, 08:49 PM
Not at all. In fact Ferrer's best GS run came on the fast courts in New York. He's a confidence player, the surface doesn't matter to him.

His win-loss ratio on clay is just as good, if not better, than other surfaces.

At this point the question is will Nadal ever lose at Monte Carlo.

Tomorow? If Nando beat Nole, second best clay court player, then he could beat Rafa. I hope he doesn't, though.

Nope it's not because Federer decided not to play. I can't wait for the huge Estoril tourney aka the 5th Slam!!!

:yeah: I'm so sure if it were Roger playing and/or winning, they wouldn't be so tired of clay.

Maybe you should go into hibernation until RG is over then? ;)

:haha:

Nice going today, Rafa. Please win tomorrow!
