Entertaining match with an atrocious Tsonga in the first set. But Tsonga was all pumped in the second and third.
Some wonderful points in the 4th and 5th game of the final set.

Ferrero faces Nadal next.

He was pretty shit in the last game as well, but Wayno was the fave on clay.

Amazing! :woohoo:
Now a chance for some epic match vs Nadal, if JCF comes in a great form!

Really good match from the second set onward when Tsonga came to the party - third set was really entertaining tennis and a great atmosphere.

Juanqui :hearts:

Loving seeing him back in good form :D

Excellent win for Juan Carlos! He played smart and defended well enough to frustrate JW.

Tsonga saved MP at 4:5, still without a win after saving MP :(

Awesome, great result. More a relief actually, would have been a disaster to lose to Tsonga again especially on these clay courts. First Masters QF appearance in three years.

Didn't like the way JCF played towards the end. Moon-balling way too much, hoping for Tsonga errors. But a win is a win and it's his first over a top 10 this year.

Bring on the clayGOAT.

Pretty lame ending to what was a very exciting third set. As the bet365 commentator noted, Gasquet should watch Tsonga's will to win - even though he really clowned it away in the end. Ferrero didn't let the second set get him into panic mode and steadied the ship with some really good rallies. I agree with Jimnik that JCF maybe was waiting a bit for the errors to come, but in this context I think it was the right strategy. Tsonga was ready to blast the ball like he did when he saved MP so it was very much hit and miss. I think overall, Juanqui's experience got him through that one rather than exceptional play. He'll have to up it against Nadal for sure.

Willy is the best at final set TBs, right?

Thank goodness it didn't come to that. ;)

He wasn't sucking, the last two sets were the best I've ever seen him play on clay. He should be looking forward to Rome and Madrid with this kind of form.

Guess he's losing a little bit of his mental edge. Use to be so clutch in tight matches.

So Nadal meets Ferrero in his 1st round after 3 byes, and then Ferrer.

2 Spanish guys who knows they won't win prior to the match.

Epic Draw this one for Rafa with 5 Byes to the final :worship::rolls:

Well played, JC :yeah:
seventh game was the crucial game of the match when Juan Carlos held after being down 00-30.

Didn't like the grunting throughout the third set though, it was annoying!

Great job Juan Carlos! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Very entertaining, high-quality match! Loved how JC fought back after losing the second set. There were some great points from both, including that amazing point when JC broke Tsonga's serve to go up 3-1 in the third set (although Jo-Wil broke back immediately). I also liked JC's clever use of return to Tsonga's feet to block his volley. It seemed to me Tsonga was starting to feel a bit tired in his legs towards the end, so JC's strategy to make him run was a good one methinks.

Hope tomorrow's QF vs Rafa will be a clay court battle to remember! :yeah:

Tsonga is never going to win a Grand Slam.

Well, he's already been to a semi & a final so he definitely can.

I'm starting to wonder though if he needs a new coach. It's about time,he takes it to the next level. He seems stagnant.

Juanqui did what Almugro should have done before :o
Not bad played by Ferrero but I fear he's playing too short, to service line, that won't be good before Rafa :o

Nice reversal for JC after the blow-out in Miami.

And oh how I despise Clownga and his ridiculous on-court antics. How anyone can be a fan of this tool is truly baffling.

Match of the tournament, awesome display from both players.

It's great to see Ferrero back to his best but I'll wait and see how he does against Rafa before I think he has chances to go deep at RG. Best Tsonga has played on clay that I can remember in the last two sets especially.

Tsonga is learning to play on clay, he's just not far enough along to take out JCF anywhere near his best. This was brains v. brawn, and brains took it.

How are they more ridiculous then those triple fist pumps on the knee on opponent's error? I'd really like to know. I understand if people who like just Edberg-style players find fault with it, but a fan of the king of theatrical excesses on court and various other less than common antics, it's just hilarious.
