little late

Nishikori on the comeback trail. Hopefully he can be ready for the French Open and qualify. But more likely Wimbledon

nah, they shouldn't waste a wildcard on him

Indeed, he should be playing HC-challengers in the US. Winning against Ram isn't an achievement though, but good that he is back and seems fit.

if you defeat Rajeev ram, you are taking a baby-step. If you defeat a player that is up in the rankings,Top50, then you should start getting wilcards into tournaments.

Oh please. The kid was gone for a fucking entire year. The first challenger he enters he makes the quarterfinal and people whine he is a waste and his scores aren't achievement. By the way he plays with a protected ranking, not a WC here or anywhere else.

Go back to your casual "Federer should retire" threads.

Kei plays Tobias Kamke next. This one will be tougher; not sure how about his stamina and psychical shape after this break, Kamke is in the good shape. But I don't cross Nishikori out here.

He is taking small steps. Beat Brendan Evans in round1 3-6 6-1 6-1, and beating Ram is for sure a bigger step Ram is ranked 85 and was the #1 seed in the tournament. It's a pretty decent win. The next step would be to actually win this tournament, which is possible with Kamke coming up next.

Because they have so many other better WC candidates?

Silly logic. If he's ranked high enough to play top 50 opponents he wouldn't need the WC.

Nobody comes back from a year-long absence and defeats top 50 players immediately.

Some players do, some do not.

First of all, Kei will probably use the protected ranking of #106 to enter RG. Usually that should be high enough for him to enter main draw, right? So no need for WC there.

Until only a few weeks ago, he was still having pains in his arm when serving. But so far this week he's saying he hasn't had any pain (according to his facebook).
Still, his serve has never been a big weapon and it looks like it's holding him back, although he's always dangerous in return games.
I don't know anything about Kamke, but he has beaten his first two opponents quite handily so he must be playing good. But Kei has beaten Ram, the top seed, so he must be feeling very well too. I hope it will be a good match!

you say that like you know he is going to defend that title.
I am a fan, but right now he is going down a beaten path. He needs to stop doubles and focus on singles.

His doubles partner should go back to Jamie Murray.

He's currently the worst player in the top 100...... and he's going to drop out of sight if he loses early in Newport.

Great for Kei to be back and playing matches without any pain though, absolutely stunning talent, hope he can stay healthy.

Nishi is a huge talent, if he'd stayed fit and healthy I think he'd have made top 40, probably got somewhere in the 20s.

Ginepri has no soul. South Park told me so.

Kei is a great talent, and within time will come back to the top 100, but Ginepri is definitely the best player he has faced since his comeback. Robby has been for the most part awful for a few years, but on American hard courts against a player coming off on injury, he is dangerous for Kei. Could go either way, too tough to predict.

I just can't wait to see Kei back in the ATP tourneys where he belongs.

Nishikori is in semis of Savannah

a Kei-Don final would be awesome

Filo V.

I think Sweeting will beat Don, but it is nice to see Kei and Don both having good tournaments, and Kei's comeback is going good so far with no setbacks.
