easily outclassed, no two ways about it. kohli was by far the superior player, such a joy to watch when he's on. don't know why andy didn't compete today. it seemed like he skipped the whole match for some reason.

anyways, vamos, german number 1! :)

Murray didn't seem too bothered with how badly he was playing, even smiling at times after making UEs, and no famous come ons either, Kohli was too solid, utterly destroying the clay mug :worship:

If you're taking a piss, I don't think any serious posters think that. It was, after all his first match on his least favorite surface against a solid claycourt player. However, the way he lost was slightly alarming, he seemed disinterested and took quite a beating honestly.

If you're serious (which I doubt) don't worry, he'll bounce back on grass at the latest :)

Murray slump continues and when Kohli plays this well it becomes a nightmare for the Scot. Last time he lost three matches in a row previous to this terrible run was in 2006 during the transition from clay to grass, at that time his ranking was 45 in the world. Right now he is playing at a barely top 50 level.

Horatio Caine
04-14-2010, 03:30 PM

Doesn't bode at all well for the clay anyway...Kohli is one of many useful players on this surface, meaning that there aren't many hiding places for Muzza in stronger draws like these.

He'd be wise to request a WC for Barcelona...altitude might actually help him a little, and he might be able to beat a couple of mugs.

Worrying times ahead for him...defending reasonable showings on clay from last year, and then massive points from Wimbledon, Canada Masters and Cincinnati Masters. The worst that could happen is that he drops out of the top 8 in time for the US Open, although I imagine that he will quickly rack up a solid number of wins once the clay season is over.

stebs
04-14-2010, 03:31 PM
Murray is a pathetic mug on clay. Period.

Not really. Last year achieved one GS QF on the surface as well as a SF and another QF in masters. It is his least favourite surface but he is not usually of the mug variety. Just playing worse than he has done in several years right now.

Murray's movement is pretty bad on clay and it was quite apparent today. It doesn't help that his motivation is right now at its lowest point.

If he wants to make a push for #1, he better stop moping and start getting motivated to do well on clay.

Murray got his ass whipped today!!! Kohly owned the court, and picked up a huge win in the process. If only he could play this kind of tennis all the time, he'd be Top 10 for sure, especially with that nasty one-hander. As for Murray, I dunno what the hell is going on with him, but he seriously needs a wake-up call. It seems as if he's going backwards instead of forward now. He's undoing all the things that got him where is he is now, and that's not a good sign.

Whatever is distracting him, he needs to forget it! If he's still distraught about what happened in Australia, he needs to FORGET IT!!!!! What happened, happened and there's NOTHING he can do about it. If he's gonna let something like this continue to bother him, he's headed for trouble!

Barcelona has as much altitude as Monte-Carlo. None.
But it's true that he should play a few low-tier tournaments and use the clay-season to get his confidence back. He needs it to defend his points during the grass season.

I don't think Smith will call Murray for DC against Turkey even if Murray wants it. I mean, there are Boggo (great player, hope he's coming back to the team), Baker, Evans (this guy at least takes matches to fifth set, the same cannot be said about Murray), Ward, Goodall, Smethurst (this guy is consistently reaching tournaments' finals lately) now, on what merit should Muzza be chosen over these players? Taking a set from Tipsarevic?

Jimnik
04-14-2010, 04:26 PM
I don't judge WCs on results. It's about whether they served a purpose or not.

Gasquet isn't ranked high enough to make the cut and needs the WC to get in. He's good enough and hungry enough to deserve the free pass. Murray on the other hand just couldn't be bothered to commit in time.

I haven't seen the match and judging from the comments in here Murray was really bad, but let's not forget that Kohli isn't the player you are looking forward to play against first on your least favourite surface. Unfortunately he lacks a bit consistency but let's not forget that he beat Djokovic in RG last year and that Novak had very good results on clay.
Murray probably doesn't have that much expectations for the upcoming tournaments anyway, but would it really help him to skip the clay season and come back for grass? Just as one match has brought you into a so-called crisis a good match can help you to find your selfconfidence back. Todays match obviously wasn't this one, but the season is still long.

Love is in the air, everywhere I look around...

Andrew Murray, PhD, the CEO of the Scottish Haggis Institute for Tennis (SHIT), showed once more why he's proud to chair the SHIT and to promote the SHIT all over the world.

Kohli is probably the most dangerous floater in the top 50. On any given day he just turns it all on and just can't lose. Roddick AO 2008 and Djokovic RG 2009 come to mind. Like Eden said, he lacks consistency big time - but other than that he has the goods to beat just about anyone.

Murray needs to start getting over it. Grass season might help.

not a surprise here...given that Murray doesn't play very good in clay and that he hasn't been play any good since AO...it was a logical result

What the fuck is happening?! This is some WTA-ish out of the blue meltdown a la Ivanovic out there!

Andy, get your shit together and don't come back until you regroup yourself because this whole shit is officially stanky. I mean Kohly pwned his british ass like if he stole something. Embarassing stuff :help:

Ivanovic won a major, Murry has not. However, I'm sick and tired of people who are so judgmental to tennis players. I love Novak, Murray is not my cup of tea, but please give him a break.

Winning one game against Nadull on clay is more impressive than winning three against Kohlschreiber.

Ana won a slam, so what? Her meltdown still was huge and unexpected, hence the comparison. And I'm not judging anybody, I'm just stating the facts. And until you don't prove them wrong (let me wish you good luck with that!), just sit down and learn how to read. Thank you very much, have a wonderful day.

As someone who dislikes Murray, I couldn't really enjoy this match  :p Yes, Kohlschreiber played well and did what he needed to do, but Murray was just pathetic, awful, lousy etc... :o When Murray plays well and loses, that's what I like to see. He looked like he barely cared today :retard: He made some atrocious errors and it was embarrassing

Murray's worst streak since 2006.
Maybe he is picking for the doubles? :aplot: I saw him in doubles at Indian Wells, he was very eager to win a match which he eventually lost, now is playing super tie-break against the Bryans :)

perhaps murray should really concentrate on the doubles, cause this clearly isnt working..

murray is someone who has maximized his talent and reached a couple of slam finals so far.......i think he would have actually won that 08 us open if the organizers allowed him to win.......

the expectations became bigger and bigger after that and he couldn't handle all that.......he somehow has to find a way to hit a consistently good forehand, things will start going his way.......i think he has past the phase where he can surprise players with his athleticism and retrieving skills.......

Up until the final in Australia he was playing really great, and was even serve and volleying on occasion. But in the final, bad old pusher Murray came back. I'm not saying Murray would've won had he played better but he would've at least had more chances. :awww:

First set I agree, he was pushing. Second set he didn't, but Fed was in Jesus mode and 6-4 was so flattering it was unreal. In the third he mixed it a bit, but Fed kept his level high and Murray made mistakes on key points.

he was actually done mentally by wimbledon itself last year........that defeat to roddick came as a shock to him and everyone.......that really derailed him and turned him into a pathetic mug pusher because he was so desperate to win a slam and it kept eluding him every time.......

that australian open was a joke.......murray should never have been in the final at the first place.......it turned into another clown event with both nadal and us open champ del potro getting injured.......

Nadal got injured at the end of set two when he was two sets down- for two sets he was at full pelt and even played well, only for his opponent to be even better than he was.

he called for the trainer at the end of set 2 which means i believe it must have been bothering him for quite some time.......and we cannot rule out the possibility of a comeback from 2-0 sets down either, if he was fit.......rafa just wasn't fit enough for that quarterfinal......

Murray got comprehensively shat upon in that final. 3 months of rest would not have helped him. The GOAT was in the zone and unbeatable by anyone.
