41% 1st serves for De Bakker for the match. zzzzz

Roamed
04-14-2010, 01:12 PM
De Bakker served at 41% :p And to think I read a pre-match analysis that gave him a bit of a chance.. Rafa saved himself from 0-40 in the second.

De Bakker must have been really really hungry throughout the match.

no problemo- Rafa dished him up a tasty breadstick and bagel , the win was NID!!!

Good quality stuff. A point here and there finally decided the winner. Nadal got slightly lucky in the end, in an otherwise excellent match.

How long did this match take?

This was probably less than a practice for Nadal.

rafa's first serve percentage still a mystery
he used to serve routinely in the 70%, even hitting 80 at times
now he's in the fifties...

04-14-2010, 01:57 PM
NID. De Bakker doesn't seem to have enough power to hit through Nadal, especially on clay. Combine that with an awful first serve percentage, and you get an arse-whooping. This match was Nadal's to lose all the way.

What did Rafa say to a ballkid?

Too bad Thiemo was so nervous, there were a few points that showed a glimpse of what the match could've been like if he hadn't been...

Still not very clear where Rafa stands

Not just the scoreline, but MTF's 180 degree turn from how Nadal is done to predictions of clay season domination.

Happens every year

Nadal infinitely better than De Bakker. Striking the ball very well and as in previous seasons it is going to take a monumental performance for anyone to beat him here or anywhere else where the surface is clay.

 So expected from many people and yet the fickle fan bunch still sticking to their laurels and calling Nadal's total demise when it doesn't take a great analyst to see his results of late are very similar to what they've always been and that should set the precedent for a similar clay season (i.e sweeping all before him).

His hard court results post-Soderling loss at RG to present haven't been bad at all.

The only year he's had better results than that post-Wimbledon to Monte Carlo was 2008-2009

Predictions of demise followed by instant deity-annointing. MTF at its best :yeah:

Despite the bagel and breadstick, this De Bakker isn't playing badly at all  He did not seem intimidated by the Clay King, tried various tactics and was willing to attack -- impressive in a ATP1000 debut. This guy will improve after this match. His attitude today is a million times better than Murray

And welcome back the Clay King Rafa! :hatoff: Amazing shots and spins!

I can see Nadal peaking too early in this clay season and giving us a rerun of last year's clay season.
I hope it's not going to happen, but I have my doubts.

He's a different animal on clay.

He needs to play a little better if he wants to beat Djokovic, should the latter reach the final come Sunday, of course.

Expected.

Players like The Baker are no threat for Nadal.
We must wait for a guy who is capable to compete with the Spaniard on clay.

I think he will find a challenge from Ferrero, maybe Ferrer.
Djokovic seems to be in good shape, so he has some chances in final.

thiemo isn't losing to players he shouldn't lose and he isn't winning of people he should't win.. this can mean a very consistent road to top 20 or a roof in the top 50

A De Bacle for De Bakker. And as Goodall accurately predicted, his first encounter with Nadal was a "baptism by fire".

A good warm-up for the champ.

True, but I always get the feeling with De Bakker that when he plays top players, his level drops a significant amount

That's true. He is not used to play against the best players in the world so he's nervous and he doesn't have a gameplan to put pressure on them. I think that will come later this year.

Vamos Rafa. What a beast he is on this surface. Really hard to get the ball past him. He runs you all over and uses heavy topspin.

I agree, I don't think he was all that great despite the scoreline. I get the impression that all the work he has done to be able to compete on other surfaces has taken a little away from his clay virtuosity.

Agreed. While Nadal wasn't at his clay dominating best, he showed that he needn't need to be in order to destroy mere mortals on said surface. Should he remain healthy, it'll only get worst for his opponents. likely not score-wise, but certainly results-wise.

Should he perform as expected, haters aside, it'll only confirm his GOAT status on clay.

About time for Rafa to issue some pain as opposed to being on the receiving end.

Surely this won't gain any fans amongst those that have already decided he is a "mug" or many other pejorative adjectives to that effect. No matter though, his place in tennis history is already secured.

Red Sox are like the wanna be Yankees. They just fail at it.

The Yankees are smarter than the other teams, and are better at making money and reinvesting it.

Cruel...just...cruel. You cannot be a fan of Rafael Nadal and support the Evilness that are the Yankees.

8-0 my Sox?! You take David 'Big Papi' Ortiz out of the line-up just to be shut out?! I despair of this season.
