It would be great to have a similiar thread for this year and as George doesn’t seem to be that interested in running the poll – he probably got a bit tired of seeing Roger win this contest  - I thought to start this thread and count the votes.

It would be much appreciated if you would include reasons for your decisions, but it’s not a requirement. You have to name at least 5 players or votes won’t count. Of course you can only vote once for the same player.

Here is how the points will be distributed:

#1 = 10
#2 = 9
#3 = 8
#4 = 7
#5 = 6
#6 = 5
#7= 4
#8= 3
#9 = 2
#10= 1

Hopefully many people will participate :)

Besides a few exceptions they pretty much reflect the rankings. Too many glory hunting fans.

Someone explain to me, how one can be a gloryhunter because one cheers for a superstar. When they win the glory is ALL theirs. They played you watched. MTF needs to stop this gloryhunting statement. Its retarded. :retard:

A few interesting things so far...
1# Favorite player right up until now is Nadal (141), followed closely by Djokovic (129) and a little more behind is Fed (114)
2# Djokovic has been voted nº1 more than any other player (9 times to Fed's 5)
3# Most Djokovic fans voted also for Rafa
4# Most Fed fans didn't vote for Rafa at all
5# Nalbaldian and Soderling are big favorites
#6 Outside the Top 10, Isner gets the most votes (obviously they didn't read the thread title)
Take your own conclusions...

Also - Federer is rarely not #1. So either top favorite or not on the list at all.

Good observation, same happens with Djokovic. He's been voted first 13 times and second 5 times.
They are really love or hate characters.
On the other way, Nadal is not people's first choice but he's almost on every list. A very likeable character?

3# Most Djokovic fans voted also for Rafa

4# Most Fed fans didn't vote for Rafa at all
Anyway if some of us would vote for Finito, please do not count their votes for Fed, because they are not fans of him.

Mostly for style reasons :

1. Federer (the last number 1 with a beautiful playing style before long  ?)
2. Youzhny (lovely talent, he nearly gave me orgasm the way he beat big retriever-Simon twice last year, with long exchanges and the right attack at the right moment)
3. Nalbandian (lovely talent, we missed him last year)
4. Gasquet (beautiful style, great hand, also he's ranked quite high because I support him for coming back after a terrible story)
5. Gonzalez (sorry for forgetting him first :o , but he sometimes gives me orgasms as well with his forehand and above all his totally engaged and confident game with a total absence of fear)
6. Tsonga (a lot of power but some moments of beauty in his game ... and being French, I see many of his matches on TV  )
7. Kohlschreiber (a little bit like Youzhny but less talented)
8. Wawrinka (also for his character, his style can be sometimes enjoying, sometimes boring)
9. Stepanek (I don't understand why so few people like him  , not only an expert in volleys, has a lot of touch, I loved the way he beat Verdasco in Brisbane final in the beginning of 2009)
10. Davydenko (I'm moved by his fighting abilities for a small man, great player)

(has been removed to give place to Gonzo :
11. Djokovic (I like his angles and near-the-lines balls, I also like his character, completely different from Federer, more "seducer", but I like both, I hope he can be the future number 1 after Federer, rather than Nadal and Murray or even Del Potro, although I also like Del Potro's character))

1. Nalbandian

We share love for beautiful tennis with angles, taxi drivers and burgers.

2. Przysiężny

Lazy, moody, his form swings from tennis god to subpar club player in just about five minutes, he's cocky enough to play outragoeus artistic tennis during a very important point of the match just to COMPLETELY fall apart and lose interest if he fails to win the point, has paranormal ability to play top 50 tennis when he's facing a top 50 opponent and play like a 500th ranked player when he plays against a 600th ranked opponent.

Lots of injures in the past, self-belief and motivation problems. Davis Cup tie against Great Britain changed his career. Probably top 100 for the first time next week, and I'll by sucking my own cock for 6 days in a row with happiness when it happens.

3. Simon

BEAUTIFUL effortless groundstrokes, sound tactics, at his best always finding a great ballance between defensive play and aggresiveness, one of those guys who in an instant chooses the best option on the court. Seems to be a sweet guy with loads of personality as well. I have a man crush on him.

4. Gasquet

Some will call it "not being man enough" "boyish" "having choking skills" "poor concentration" etc., but all this fragility makes him even more interesting for me, I'd love to have a door to his brain and record his thoughts during a match, it seems that so much is going in his head (it's not like nothing is going on in the heads of other players, but his case is special for me). You could argue that top level tennis is a sport for macho ego titans, and Gasquet seemingly doesn't seem to be one, but definitely there is a place for Richard in it as well, and I'll stand by him till the end of his career.

5. Hrbaty

1997 AO, clash against Sampras, I was keeping my fingers crossed for him so hard I almost couldn't untangle them later, and frankly, never stopped. Great guy, passionate about the game, and from Bratislava, which I have a hundred reasons to love.

6. Stepanek

Such a character, fantastic to watch, amazing netplay and coverage, such a stud, what else do you need.

7. Gabashvili

Unpredictable and wild creature, when this guy wins a point he immediately starts to walk faster than Volandri will ever be able to hit first serve. Used to own Kubot a few years ago, this was the time I started to get interested in him.

8. Nishikori

I love his tennis, don't know much about his personality.

9. Granollers

Watching him play for no apparent brings a smile to my face. Is it in his a bit unorthodox game or in his facial expressions or in his often hilariously wrong footwork when trying to play a high volley, I don't know, I really enjoy watching him on the court.

10. Verdasco

I always try to trick my girlfriends into watching tennis by showing them a Verdasco match. Usually I have to clean beds, floors and myself from saliva, but it's worth it.

Trashy sense of fashion, but a great player to watch.

1. RAFA. Amazing tennis player, phenomenal human being and absolutely beautiful to look at; what's not to love?!! 2. Pico Monaco. Just seems like a really nice guy and a very good player too. 3.Bagdhatis. Very talented tennis player and a really lovely on court personality. 4. Albert Montanes. I really admire his spirit and his drive plus he has a great potential to do really well. 5.Andy murray. I do not like his demenour and personality but I admire the way he respects and treats rafa and since I don't really like any other player he gets a vote for that reason. Besides he is an amazing tennis player.

yep, some changes this year:

1. Gasquet: Even if things got rough this year, there is always at least one stroke in his matches, which makes me well aware why I love tennis. It is a game after all.

2. Federer: More for what he did than what he does now, and this has nothing to do with him losing matches. It is just the effortlessness in his prime time which still prevails.

3. Djokovic: That's a huge change, but I somehow feel for struggling players. The guy carries a lot of expectations and deals with it quite well.

4. Ferrero: For reaching a second spring through sheer tenacity.

5.Simon: Bashed to death here as a pusher, I see him totally different. Besides, his ignorance of football will always endear him to me.

6. Nalbandian: How can one not appreciate his tennis?

7. Melzer: Not out of patriotism, but I like his varied game, a bit like Gasquet, he "plays" tennis.

8. Monfils: I will always like this kid, even if the same behaviour annoys me with other players. ;)

9. Kohlschreiber: The BH is enough for being on that list.

10. Gulbis: for still being a promise, "Mini-Marat".

tough without Marat, as tennis isn't the same for me this year, but, as of now, this is how they rank for me:

1. Djokovic
2. Baghdatis
3. Tsonga
4. Gulbis
5. Soderling
6. Nalbandian
7. Roddick

i'm sure when i'm through this 'mourning' stage () i'll be more enthused with this topic!

1. Federer - Not much of an explanation is needed. His game, particularly his movements is what makes him my favorite.
2. Haas - Groundstrokes are fluid and superb, especially off the backhand side obviously. His temperament/intensity are great to watch as well.
3. Youzhny - Very solid player, love his backhand as well. You can tell he wants every single match badly up to the point of denting his forehead :p
4. Hewitt - When I was old enough to really understand and play some competitive tennis in the USTA, that is when Lleyton was quickly making his way to the top so I was able to watch a lot of matches of his. While defensive games usually bore me, Lleyton has really grown on me and of course his intensity has influenced many professional and junior players today.
5. Kohlschreiber - Fantastic backhand, one of the best in the game. His forehand is kind of ugly because of the similar grip he uses compared to his backhand, but it gets the job done. Nice to always see players of his height like Davydenko and Ferrer beating/pushing the top players.
6. Soderling - I have watched Soderling for about 5 years now, so his game has really grown on me and you can really see the progress through the years. He's like a slower footed but more powerful Davydenko. He has excellent groundstrokes off both wings, and serves huge.
7. Gaudio - Fantastic one-handed backhand. Growing up, his backhand was the one I tried to emulate. However, his poor mental game was not something I wanted :D
8. Ljubicic - Great personality in my opinion and a great attacking game. Especially love his backhand, don't see many tall guys around his height possessing a strong one-handed backhand.
9. Nalbandian - Nalbandian kind of floats around my top 5-30. I don't know, he disappoints me a lot. I mean I guess you can't expect a whole lot out of him, but he really wasted his talent I think.. Sure he got the semis at all the slams, made the Wimbledon final and had a few notable victories, but that is quite a poor resume.. Regardless, he has a fantastic all-round game.
10. Wawrinka - Great backhand is all I can say about Wawrinka. He also floats around my top, but his backhand is reason enough to be in my top 10.

/e Saw that we were encouraged to put our inputs :p Nadal is in my top 20, but not top 10. His game doesn't really appeal to me as much especially when he is being really defensive, but then again, he can't help it, it is his game.

I updated the first post with the first results :)

I also thought to have a look which player is the 2nd favourite of the people who gave 10 points to Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray.

The Federer fans seem to appreciate Nalbandian. 4 people named him as their 2nd favourite player. Nadal, Djokovic and Söderling each got 2 mentions.

The Nadal fans voted 4 times for Djokovic as their 2nd favourite player. Baghdatis and Moya each got 2 mentions.

The Djokovic fans voted 5 times for Nadal and Davydenko as their 2nd favourite player, followed by Murray with 3 mentions.

Murray only got 3 times 10 points so far. The people who voted for him named Rafa, Isner and Leonardo Mayer as their 2nd favourite player.

Thanks for the stats, they're really interesting. Funnily enough fans of Federer hardly ever vote for Nadal and viceversa. And we can say that most fans of Nadal are also fans of Djokovic and viceversa. Funny. :)

Hi Eden :wavey: . thanks for doing out the scores. just one thing, I think you should stagger the rankings a bit more. for example, Gasquet and Del Potro are both 8th, so Gulbis should be 10th as there are 9 people with better scores than him. like they do in the golf :)

This board is filled with Fedtards and Sodatards. Djokovic has surprisingly many fans on here too. Why will I not be surprised if Nadal is at the bottom of the list? People just hate him as a person, so they don't acknowledge the amazing player he really is, and I think it's unfair. I don't exactly like Soderling. He has one of the worst attitudes of all the players on the tour. Funny thing is, he did exactly what his fans are accusing Nadal of, cheating. Remember last year in Rome? They find all these excuses to hate Nadal, and to legitimize it, but when their hero did the same thing, they don't say a word about it. Hilarious, really. My point is just that I don't like Soderling for his cheating or for what he did to Rafa. But I still acknowledge the fact that he is a very talented player, and he has a chance to win a slam in the future. I wish Fedtards and Sodatards would do the same about Nadal when he accomplishes something, like winning a slam.

Stop whining Nadal will be in the top 5 as he usually is.

Why do you say that? Nadal has almost as many votes as Federer and some more than Djokovic, so not really a big difference between the 3. Nadal will always come out at the top, which is understandable.
Niow, Murray at 10?
Behind Nabaldian, Soderling or Davydenko? Amazing how underrated and underappreciated this guy is. I hope his time will come.
