Tight match but Sam's play was dropping off as it wore on, got sloppy at the end of the second and start of the third.

He started to try to hit every single forehand at 100mph and shockingly, started to miss a bunch.

Brainless final set from him, he broke immediately but dumped serve right after and thereafter was in trouble behind serve all the way, saving break points in the next two service games before being broken to love in game 8. Chela comfortably served it out as Sam just tried to blast forehands. Stupid end to the match from him.

Well done to Chela though, a long time since he was in the winners circle.

Spectacularly bad last set after being up a break, just amazing Sam
Seems he is in really bad shape to be tired out so easily in a best of three match. Oh well.
Congrats JIC, fully deserved.
JMG is beating off to this result as we speak.

Top stuff, J-I. :yeah:

Made life difficult for himself by dropping the opening set, but you felt that if he could keep Querrey out there long enough he would get a chance to turn it around. Couldn't watch the match, but it sounds like Querrey's level dropped in the 3rd set (certainly mentally), most probably feeling it after the long match with Odesnik yesterday.

Chela now needs barely 100pts over the remainder of the season to seal a year-end top 100 finish...assuming he stays fit that is a formality. It will be interesting to see how much higher he can go (I'd estimate on the boundary of top 50).

Dissapointing Sam. Well Done to Chela but cmonnn he shouldn't be winning titles at his age.

Chela is some 6 victories away from place in Top 10 active players with most clay court wins

Absolutely ridiculous display from Sam. He seemed so pissed off about losing the second set that he couldn't concentrate for shit in the third. He gave this one away. He's lost so many finals now that he should have won

Having said that, I wanted Juan to win anyway so I'm absolutely loving this result. With his injury troubles, he hadn't really done anything since blowing mps to Djokovic in 07. Almost back into the top 50 now!

Chelita always was a fighter, he was never a player that used to rely on his youth to win matches. In a clay tournament with a not so strong field he will always be a fighter and a contesta, so well done.

really unexpected from chela.. i didnt think he'd even reach a final again, well done. the veteran players are really making a comeback this year lol.

Hewitt loses to eventual champ yet again, he's gotta hold the record for that especially in the lower rounds.

Congrats to JIC, nice to see him back around the top 50.

Ok...Isner should've taken Memphis but I fail to see how Ball or Anderson were favorites against him in his other victories. His doubles wins were pretty clear-cut too.

If it couldnt be Odesnik, at least it's a doper...

BTW, considering Juan was out of the top 200 11 months ago I think he is officially back now.

Amazing :haha: :haha: :haha: What a week.
Noone could expect this, he was strugling and losing against all kinds of mugs and challenger opponents lately, being a shadow of his former self.
And now he wins a title almost out of the blue. :D

I hope JIC comes to Umag this summer...I want to give him a present or a reward.

You got that right :rocker2:
And a note to media around the world - JIC is not a claycourt specialist! Look at his playing activity in the past.

This Querrey is something else...losing to Raj Ram in the Newport final then losing to the old doper Chela here. Gotta pull your head out of your butt Sam.

Querrey losing to a good Chela on clay is anything but unexpected.
