Nadal's quarter is a joke! Lucky guy this Nadal. Not that it makes any difference, though. Nadal will plow through the draw with 70% of effort.

Balanced draw. Either Nadal and Djokovic have good opponents.
Rafa has few clay court experts like Ferrero and Monaco.

^^ Rafa has a lot of good clay players in his quarter. The other quarters, not so much. Schwank, Ferrero, Monaco, Almagro.

Two of those are Spanish i.e automatic bowdown even if they were leading 6-0 5-0 40-0(we got evidence enough of that in Paris Masters last year)
The other one is ultimate choker/headcase-Pico Monaco
and wait for it the last one is none other than an old fogie who just got fined for "tanking" last week

Huh? All I said was he had a lot of good clay players in his quarter. Is that in dispute? Ferrero is one of the 3 players with a win over Rafa on clay in the last 5 years.

Who is the old fogey? Schwank? He's 23.

I'm torn over what to do in my draw challenge. Given Djokovic's craptastic recent form I am sorely tempted to pick Wawrinka to knock him out, but who knows? What if he recovers? What if Wawrinka chokes as so many have done against Djokovic this year? What if Wawrinka is tired after Casablanca? On the other hand, his good run of form in Casablanca could inspire him to do well, especially if he ends up winning the title.

I am definitely picking Bellucci over Murray though.

Murray has Belluci or Kohlschreiber, followed by Meltzer, followed by Ferrer or Ljubicic.
All matches in normal circumstances he could expect to win with his eyes shut, to set up a SF with Nadal.

This will show whether his slump continues or whether he has got himself back together.

Interesting times ahead.

Seppi - O. Rochus
FORZA, you can't get much better draw than this in MS events!

It will an interesting week, which will show us how Djoko, Muzza, Čilić any many others are feeling on clay or will they continue their slump. :wavey:

EDIT: Ups, I fu**ed up, too much partying with Potito :o
PHM - Melzer is to play with the winner of GGL-Petzchner in 2nd round. So, it's quite an open draw for one of these guys to make 3rd round, maybe even qurterfinal.

^ Nadal has a dream come true in Tsonga. The highest of the 5-8 seeds, yet the one he owns
Still, I don't expect Monaco, Ferrer, and Ferrero to just roll over... surely Ferrer, the single non-headcase Spaniard, won't do rare headcasing two weeks in a row

I don't know if I'd call that a dream come true. I don't really see Tsonga get past Almagro and Ferrero in a row, and either of them could give Nadal some trouble, especially Ferrero, who's the one that will probably come through to Nadal.

On paper, Nadal should have the advantage over all his opponents. One thing we've learned over the years is that Nadal beats grinders whenever he wants. He simply can outphysical anyone on tour.

The worry here is that he potentially has a lot of them in a row, so one wonders how much running he is prepared to take.

This will be an interessing tournment for testing the Bellucci's hability in clay season. He should pass quite easily against Kohli if he plays well, but will he? and in Australia, he lost quite easily, even if it was on HC (6-4, 6-2 i guess). And then against Murray, who is a better player, but is in a shit moment right now, and we're talking about clay...

But we can't forget how he lost 2 "easy" games in the US, and against Mello in Brazil. And outside of Santiago, still not won against a player ranking higher than him...

I still hope that Marin will some day have better results on clay, of course faster surfaces are his best, but he grew up playin 99% on clay and he did win the French juniors title, does not have to
mean much, but still a great achievement....

Marin has clay court near his house. He was playing there with his friends when they were little. He captured French Open, but his results this season are not good on hard, so I dont expect that he will fix this on his 1st clay tournament this year. Also he is not the best at masters series.

To begin with, Rafa assures us that heís coming in to this tournament in much better shape than in previous yearsÖ

Nadal: ĒItís not like last year where I was in the semifinals and once I was there I couldíve easily lost due to some issues here and there. No, this year Iíve made it to the last rounds of the tournaments and I havenít won due to some small details and simply I just have to continue like this and itís logical that sooner than later Iíll end up winning if I continue playing like this.Ē

So when he loses then his knees are going to be suddenly bad or he will be tired?

Lousiest ATP MS I've ever seen. Restore Hamburg as an ATP 1000 and downgrade Monte Carlo to an ATP 500 status, a bunch of rich old farts seeking for way to avoid taxes is what they are anyhow.

For the millionth time, MC is no longer really a masters. There's two masters to follow shortly. Hence, it does not have a proper masters fields and it will not have it in the future either. As long as they're willing to pay masters prize money and everything that goes with it, I highly doubt they'll cut the points to 500 series. For the rest, it already is considered 500.

Pff I am tired of posters here repeating this  As if the "real" TMS Shanghai last year was any better. People have short memory.

MC is officially listed as a Masters 1000 on the ATP website and as you say, it grants 1000 points to the winner and gives masters prize money to the players. It's certainly not cosidered as an ATP 500 by any means. The only difference between MC and the other Masters 1000 is that it ain't a compulsory event and thus some of the top players can afford not to play it without having to face potential point penalities if for some reason they can't play another MS later that year.

That said, my problem with MC isn't about the field per sť but simply about the history of it. Having tennis events in places designed for wealthy people like Monte Carlo or even Indian Wells gives the classic image of tennis being a sport for rich people and I think that the ATP should attempt to distance itself from that if it wants to reach a wider audience and following, imo.

He's saying that last year he was more unsecure about his physical shape and thus didn't know how his body was going to react once he reached the final rounds of each tournament. This year, however, he's feeling much better physically but hasn't been able to win a tournament due to "small details" but he's certain that if he continues to play the way he's playing, the titles will inevitably come.

Based on that reason the first tournament that should be scratched from the ATP list is Queens. I haven't seen another more snobbish/elitist tournament that this one.

Translation:

Monte carlo starts this yearís clay season, and it is the moment to verify if the feelings and good image left by Nadal in the last hard court tournaments can turn into his opportunity now.

To begin with, Rafa assures us that heís coming in to this tournament in much better shape than in previous yearsÖ

So, there will be no excuses if he loses here.

He always have an excuse.. I think that will win montecarlo easy, but if he lose, he will have an excuse for his defeat..

If he loses, there will be a reason, not an excuse. There's always a reason.
Whether that reason is an injury or not, you can't possibly know, so you and all the Fedtards should stop being so bitter because it's not good for the health. And you'll get wrinkles. :p

jajja. A reason? The reason because he loses is because his oponent was better. He can has an ijury one, twice, but not always.. Already nobody believes in his injuries. No more Nadal's lies. He's a big tenist, but very bad loser

Many times his oponent was better and he said so too. When he says that he's injured, he probably knows better than you unless you have some super powers that allow you to feel what others feel. Nadal is not a bad loser. But if he is, it's only because he wants to win a Sportsmanship award and he saw that in order to win one of those you have to be a bad loser.

This is a Forums. This is my opinion. I haven't super power, I only think is unjust for his opponent that he says, when lose, "is accident" "I need play more match"

This quote is an stupid answer. I don't know what is relation with de topic, but well
