A single player wins a grand slam they get over 1,000,000
A double player gets a double playerthey get 446,020.
Why is that?

Who thinks Doubles player should make more money???

These guys do. The rest of us could probably give a shit.

I personally believe that the top money should go to mixed doubles, followed by WTA doubles, wheelchair doubles, over 60 doubles, ATP doubles, and finally WTA singles.

If anything is left, let the ATP singles players have that. Bunch of talentless, mug, ball-bashing, crybabies anyway.

I mean the prize money, Doubles isnt as popular, but they should get money each , not as a pair.

Agreed, they should get the prize money each, not as a pair.

I was shocked when I was looking at the prize money for the World Tour Finals. The Bryans received $125,000 to SPLIT as the winners. Meanwhile, Verdasco who lost all three of his round robin matches, received $120,000. So he earned almost as much losing three matches than the Bryans did winning the whole tournament, and when you take into account that they have to split their winnings, that's only $62,500. Singles alternates get $70,000 and they don't even play a single match.

This is an absurd, If WTA players earn so much money then there's no reason ATP doubles player shouldn't earn the same, some of them are 100 times more talented than most of the WTA players.

some doubles players that have been playing for years are barely over a million dollars.

The prize money in most ATP 250 tournaments looks really bad. For example, a Casablanca semifinalist gets only 3075 €. You can only get rich if you play the Slams and 1000s.

Doubles players generally wouldn't get into the top 100 singles, so they're doing well for themselves, really.

Doubles is harder and easier at the same time.

doubles players can easily compete until they are 42. So they can earn for longer.

doubles players are 3rd class players. If they could earn more money, maybe 2nd class players would join the doubles tour and then it would be worse than now for the 3rd class.

If you want the players to earn more, you either need to personally start shelling out $100K per ticket or you need to find a lot more like minded friends.

Not me.

446,020 !???!!!

These clowns are shockingly overpaid. No one gives a crap about doubles anymore. Tv-stations don't pay to feature those clowns. Live audience aren't paying big money to see them. These club players are lucky they get to piggyback to a large paycheck.

The ITF could(and should imo) ban doubles from GS-tournament and hardly anyone will give a crap.

The should make as much as the singles players, as soon as they start drawing crowds as big as the singles guys. Unfortunately that wonīt happen, itīs a simple question of demand and supply. Very few people want to watch top doubles matches, therefore the prize money is, and should be, very low as well.

Itīs like saying David Hasselhoff should make as much money as George Clooney. In order for that to happen, people would have to be so convinced of Davidīs quality acting, they would want to buy tickets to watch Baywatch on the big screen. It wonīt happen, so David will continue to make less than Geroge. I hope I didnīt insult any fans of The Hoff. Wasnīt my intention at all, Knight Rider is quality stuff.

Bad comparison. Being one of the producer, The Hoff made a fortune from Baywatch. I bet his net worth is not too far off from Clooney. :D

Who thinks DualMedia should ease up on the threads?

No they shouldn't make more money than they currently do. In doubles you can play for longer, it is less demanding on the body and average tennis players can make a reasonable living doing it. Plus be honest who here actually watches a lot of doubles?

I must say I consider doubles a very entertaining game and I am always pleased when I have possibility to see a doubles match. Unfortunately I see more doubles matches in the couple of challengers I attend every year than on tv through the whole year...

...and not just some Mickey Mouse tournament, a Masters Series tournament at that. It really does show that most of the current doubles teams are a joke compared to singles players. Nadal could play one more grand slam with Lopez and probably qualify for the Tour Finals playing a total of 3 tournaments.
