The passing shot by Berdych on the penultimate point is a candidate for shot of the year! sensational!

That was the worst I've seen Soderling play in ages. He was truly awful.

It's still a long way to go for him to make that final step to the top.

They have very similar game but Berdych is more flexible, more talented and sumptuously showed it tonight. First serve helped him a lot. Has he finally found his serve from Paris 2005?

any chance of a Sodermug vs Nadull 3rd place playoff? Nadal needs a win over top 10 before the clay season starts IMO.

Haha, yikes. Robin was off, but it was still evident that Tomas moves and defends a whole lot better than him. I always had the feeling that he'd pose a way bigger potential threat than Verdasco to Söderling. A lot of nice hustles for a guy so big. He's just on a mission when he's in this kind of mood.

Sometimes it's just not your day. His movement was horrible for one, and his knee was taped. No idea if the knee was bothering him but it was bad. Mentality only gives you so much.

Why is Soderling getting so nervous in Masters SFs? The RG SF last year was a much bigger match.

Then again I missed this match so maybe it wasn't nerves.

Berdych really improving heaps, but I still doubt his chances against ROddick though. It's not a good mental match up for Tomas, evident from the matches they've played previously. But if he can pull it off and win this tournament, then it may be a turning point for him. Even though Soderling played bad, Berdych's played excellent. Congrats!

Easily the most boring match I've seen this year. One-dimiensional ball-bashing by all accounts. I literally almost felt asleep in the last 2 games.

Just out of curiosity, did the umpire ban the slice-shot and set a small quota for volleys, drop shots and creative selection of shots in general in this match?

soderling played pretty bad in the whole tournament...tho impressive to reach semis.... but i cant belive how bad he played this match.

since i started follow soderling (since the victory over Rafa in RG ofc) i havent seen him play any more worse...i didnt see robins AO match but it seemed it was terrible and before that in india? damn he still need to improve his conscistency...

i hope berdych is back in 2005 form becouse i always thought he is a gr8 player and top 10 material...he shoudnt have a ranking around 20s

for the clay court season-i hope soderling can produce some good wins...might not be as outstanding as the IW and miami tournaments, but i hope we can expect QF from the super swede! GO SODA!

Robin just looked ... distant and lacklustre from the word go. The failed smash to surrender the first set looked like a half-heartened whiff. He tried to pump himself up a couple of times, but it didn't happen. Tomas really struggled to get his first serve in at the beginning of the second, and Robin was unable to make any inroads at all when returning.

Now when I think of it, it was an interesting and very uncharacteristic road to this semi for Söderling.

He was struggling majorly against Luczak who served for the first set.

He let Petzschner self-implode in the wind.

He beat Gonzo who looked tired, disinterested and barely moved his feet at all in order to set himself upf or his shots, just taking swats at the ball for most of the match. In the second set Robin could barely find the court.

He struggled with his serve against Youzhny, and still toyed with him.

And now this.

Funny.

his game is definitely special. He's a very tall lad but there are not many players you will find on tour having more fluid tennis strokes (or general game) than Berdych. He generates EXTREMELY easy power because his flawless technique off both wings. Given a good day his technique also allows him placement as well as power, which makes him one hell of a dangerous player.

Well said. He has great technique (love the wicked forehand), but also plays a game with very little margin for error.

He could, however, really improve his slice. The second serve isn't great for someone of his height either.

From Robin's website:

”Unfortunately I didn’t reach the same level in my game today as I did in my previous matches here in Miami.” Robin said about his match last night. “I had some trouble moving around the court well, which led to bad timing. But Berdych was playing some very good tennis and is a worthy winner. I’m now looking forward to the clay season, but before that I will rest until I feel that my body is 100% recovered again.”

Norman has written on his blog that the tape on Robin's right knee was mainly for precaution rathern than something serious. It's been a hard couple of weeks, and I hope they don't go overboard with the schedule on clay.
