How Many Majors Will Federer Win In 2010?

How many grand slam titles do you predict Federer will win in 2010?

Considering his recent losses this may sound rash but I think he's going to defend Wimbledon and reclaim his US Open title this year thereby winning 3 majors thus bringing his total to #18 (Nadal will win the French Open). I don't think Murray, Djokovic or Del Potro will win a major this year or anyone else other than Nadal at the French (it would be great to see someone unexpected like Tsonga win the US Open but it won't happen).

Now that he's getting older, and has already achieved so much, it's clear he's adopting Serena Williams' method of saving his very best tennis for the majors and almost using other tournaments as 'warm up events'

Thoughts?

No option for 0? Not that I would choose that, but I can't take this poll seriously now.

Good point. People should never underestimate Halle, Basel, Umag and Estoril.

Just a random thought - but at least by winning the AO, the first slam of the season, Fed inadvertently spared us from any more appearances from RafaWonCYGS :P

Well back when rafawonCYGS's name was rafawon09uspoen, Del Potro gave us like 5 months of total freedom from the idiot. And then he comes back for like 2 weeks and leaves again when Federer took the AO title. That is good that there is a long break between AO/FO, so we won't be seeing for a little longer.

Agreed. Nadal takes the French Open where I foresee the SF streak finally ending. Roger then either takes Wimbledon or the US Open, but probably not both. Finishes the year as world #2 behind Nadal.

Nadal won't finish the year as No.1  I guarantee you that. Someone put this in the signature.

Rogi will win 2 GS.
And I have Wimbledon in my mind. Maybe 3, with Roland Garros, but it all depends on Rafito (and his knees) and Federrors clay form and his motivation of course.

He has no chance at USopen, the opposition on hard courts is just too strong.
This years Wimbledon will be his last Grand slam. :wavey:

With the way Nadal is playing, Roger could go for the CYGS.

So how come Federer won the Australian Open?

2. And I agree with this year's Wimbledon most likely being his last GS win. 17 should stand for a while, though.

Wimbledon, his last GS ? Federer has proven time and time again that he can never be underestimated at grand slam level. He already won the Australian Open. He has one at least 1 grand slam for, what is now, 6 years straight (or is it 7 ?)

If and when Federer is no longer able to win 1 slam a year that is when he should consider retirement. However there is no reason to assume he can't achieve another 2 slams; Wimbledon, his bread and butter and of course, the US Open.

Again, most of us thought Federer would not win the Australian Open after his defeat at the US Open. Look what he did. You just can't underestimate his abilities at GS level. He still has at least 3-4 years of tennis in him.

I will say for 2010, Federer, at worst, wins Wimbledon and at best, what I would like, is for him to win the US Open as well. The French, I don't know.

Well, I have to agree with Olorin...maybe I just love how Fed keeps proving me wrong all the time.
Who knows, just a little decline in his game, lack of motivation, injury (please no) and this year's Wimby could be his last GS? If he even wins it, he was a couple of points away from losing against Roddick, his pigeon or turkey or whatever they call it. :)

So how come Federer won the Australian Open?
I don't have any answer for that...I'm just expecting someone will perform like DelPotro and beat Fed at USopen.

8 actually. 2003 (1), 2004 (3), 2005 (2), 2006 (3), 2007 (3), 2008 (1), 2009 (2), 2010 (1).

Yeah if he wins the CYGS and Cincy he could win five slams in 2010.
