Miami QF: Berdych def. Verdasco 4-6 7-6(5) 6-4

Some nice points but mainly craptastic play. Especially the second set tiebreak, they were competing on who will be the one to choke it away. Verdasco finally choking at the end, gifting the break with errors to Berdych.

Some horrible line calls in there, with Steve Ulrich not overruling clear ones.

If this were a Nadal win and l_Mac would have started the thread, the title would say "destroys" instead of "def." ;)

The match wasn't bad, imo. Berdych didn't play as well as he did against Federer but it was still enough to beat Verdasco in three.

I'm continually surprised by Tomas' mental strenght lately.

Thank god that Nadal won't get cakedraw in the final, Verdasco is lost before the match against Rafa. Tennis won again.

Great turnaround for Berdych :yeah: Nice to see he didn't just lose after upsetting Federer

Verdasco had a set and a break lead. Then he got a bit tight and played a poor tiebreak. He had chances to break in the 3rd set but failed to do so and Berdych was more solid at the end.

Entertaining at times, with a mix of great shots and terrible misses

Hey. Berdych is playing with house money after Fed match point. But Verdasco should sue Reed. The curse of Reed's #1 has derailed both Murray and Verdasco.

Hahahaha at spoiled brat "fangirl orgasm" Mugdasco netting so many backhands half way up the net then just going all James Blake in the last game and overhitting. The nicer, gentlemanly player won today! GOOD FOR TENNIS :D

Nando led 3:1* (30-0) in the 2nd set, after that game for me it was obvious that Berdych would win this match.

What an amazingly dramatic match! I wouldn't say that Verdasco totally choked this one. Tomas started to play much better at 1-3 in the second and really kept his composure after that horrible call on bp in the third.

With two huge tight wins, I think Tomas might actually be onto something here. Good luck to him in the semis!

A hard-fought and well-deserved win for Birdy. I thought he’d fade away after the 2nd set TB, but he hung in there and grinded out the victory.

Well done Birdman :hatoff:

The Ver didnt seem to want to win this match... Basically gave it away to Tomas after having a chance for the double break lead...

+Steve Ullrich failed as an ump today. So many calls he should have overruled. Especially the baseline one where the ball was INSIDE THE LINE...

Verdasco must be kicking himself all over the locker room. Felt sorry for him in the end, he really needed this win and he was very close to getting it. Hope he has better luck next time.

Of course, Berdych also needed to win and feel he's returned to the top. Hope he makes the final.

Anyway, it´s great to have so many Spaniards playing so deep into big tournaments. The envy it causes goes a long, long way into explaining why so many people dislike our players, hehe.

well, so here just for you dickhead: berdych is a good player when he's on but at the end it's all about the titles and he still has two matches to go.

probably we will see our players on sunday in the final. hope you can take a loss there ;)

It's always very nice to see a player who's managed to upset one of my favs back it up with a good victory thereafter. Even more when it's Tomas Berdych to do so, for whom I obviously have a soft spot. :hearts: :)

At 4-6, 1-3, I thought this would be a straight-sets victory for Verdasco (and I'm sure I'm not the only one). But guess what happened. Tomas finally found his groove, started to play a lot better, whereas Verdasco found himself mumbling, grumbling, cursing, grumbling... and eventually - *crumbling* under the pressure that Tomas set upon him. This was obviously a mental battle first and foremost, and the tougher player won.

It's just awesome to see Tomas, formerly known as Birdsh*t, not losing his cool but just keeping going and pull out the win. Much deserved, wonderful result! :yeah: :hatoff:

Ump should be ashamed of himself because of those wrong calls/not being overruled. And Verdasco? Get your head screwed on again! :o

Nando. :( Oh well a good tournament overall. Another Top 10 win this week, over Cilic this time.

And while I agree with the one who said he can't play under pressure to a certain extent, he was under huge pressure against Roddick in the San Jose final and he still won. He probably should've won this match (OK he definitely should've) but at least he's trying to rectify the Top 10 thing. :p

Couldn't be happier with him even in this loss. Vamos Nando! :rocker2:

I actually enjoyed this match. IMO the fact that points are finished with UE's is not in itself enough to call the match crap, it is to be expected on a slow HC like this one. Both guys were smacking the crap out of the ball but to actually hit a winner it was taking a very good shot because the defence of both was unusually good. Whilst there was some ridiculously poor tennis (drop shots from both were mind boggling st times) there was some fantastic ball striking as well.

Impressed with how Berdych hung in there when Verdasco was trying to pull away. In the end, it became more and more inevitable that Verdasco would lose the second set, his mental frailties continue to haunt him and prevent taking his results to a higher level.

Well it was competing against Nadal-Tsonga (6-3 6-2), Roddick-Almagro (6-3 6-3), and Soderling-Youzhny (6-1 6-4)...so yes it was far more entertaining than any of those
