Roddick's gotta play OUT and BEYOND of his comfort zone in order to beat Rafa. If he plays normally, he will lose against a consistent Rafa.

I say Roddick in 3... But I'm a hopeless Roddick fan who doesn't know when to face facts xD

I would like Rafa to win it but he can not count on mental lapses from Andt. I think Andy's fight is under-rated (perhaps by not other players but by general tennis fans.

Bright spot- if Rafa loses I will be thrilled for any other fellow who wins the tournament. I want Rafa to get the title- but as a fan, I like having happy thoughts for any of those left.

Roddick has a real chance if he just stays calm.

I think he's able to beat Nadal on long points with his pushing game, as Nadal makes an abnormal number of unforced errors and Roddick is very fit physically.

Actually Roddick has become a very good pusher ;)

However, he misses a big chance as it will be in night session then he loses his serve weapon.

And his backhand may still be insufficient against Nadal.

I bet Nadal in a tight match.

On day session I would have bet Roddick ;)

That's a bull. Rafa loves playing under the sun and absolutely hates playing night matches. You can check his night and day records, compare them and then post here the results. Thanks.

That's way I still think theoretically he should do better at USO (because of day SF and F) rather than AO.

his night results are not that bad

Anyway, my concern was only about Roddick's serve : look at night matches and day matches and you will see that serves are far more effective at day in Miami.

MacTheKnife
04-01-2010, 12:22 PM
Roddick has a good chance at this, but duong is right. Heavy night conditions favor the spaniard. Roddick will do a better job of moving nadal around than he has faced so far, and if he serves well, this could be tight.

Nadal in 2.
Roddick is another top 10 clown with an useless backhand. Nadal is having a field day since all the players with a competent backhand is in a slump(Murray, Djokovic, Del potro, Cilic, Davydenko, Nalbandian). If none of them steps up, the 3 remaining Slams are his.

I know Roddick plays quite quickly.

Will the umpire warn Nadal for taking too long between points especially as he is playing an American player in the US and would have the support of the crowd if he did so.

The crowd will be 50-50, Rafa will have just as much support.

But I wonder if they'll boo Rafa for his stalling tactics like they did at IW last year? http://i42.tinypic.com/vhvu4z.gif

Can someone explain to me how this is the day match and not the night match?

Their side of the draw has played first all week, it's only fair. The winner of Sod/Youzhny could have been playing until 10pm last night, it wouldn't have been right to ask him to come back at 1pm the following day.

Added to that, both players will have preferred, maybe even requested, the day match.

Day-match, if he wins it and there's not too much wind, it will be a great test passed by Nadal in my eyes. So far he's improving for sure but I still doubt that he's near to his best.

If he beats Roddick, it would be the first time he would beat a real top-10 since Madrid last year, I guess (I don't count Tsonga who crushed himself twice against Nadal  ... if ever he could be compared to the rest of the top-10 who are much better than him  )

i am going to say andy in 2. he will win the tiebreaks because his record in tiebreaks is almost unbreakable by any player, including fed.

fed has a better record than Roddick in tie-breaks, but Nadal has a worse one (the reason is probably that when Nadal plays well, he's able to break his opponent and wins before TB ;) )

if he serves like Ljubicic in IW, he's certain to win imo.

But I don't expect so much : serving well might be enough imo.

Roddick has far more than just a serve. On baseline the current Nadal can make the error before him imo, not the most current case but can happen often enough.

Nadal in two.. Roddick hasnt played anyone.

Well Roddick didn't play anyone in Indian Wells and Soderling by far had the hardest draw and best run after defeating the likes of Tsonga/Murray without dropping a set the whole way but Roddick made the final regardless.

Nadal has always had difficulty against players who can serve big, even when he was playing his best tennis. So I expect this to be a close match.. I know Roddick has lost to Nadal in straight sets at Indian Wells the both semifinals they played there, but I don't think Roddick played particularly his best at either meeting and Nadal was playing some of his best tennis during those two tournaments overall.

Roddick has been quite solid off the baseline, and I believe he has only been unable to save 1 break point this entire tournament so far, so the serve is clicking obviously. If Roddick can keep rolling through his service games and take chances against Nadal's weak second serves, this could possibly be like Dubai.

Either way, this will definitely be a more intriguing matchup than Soderling/Berdych because I'm quite sure Robin has that one in the bag..

He believed in himself so much at the final, he collapsed weakly with no anger at all. He cared & worried so much when he played Ljubibic. I'm sure the Miami semi result came from the "current state of Nadal" & the opponent 'serving' 30 aces.
