Miami R3: Almagro def. Chardy 6-2, 6-7, 6-3

Chardy did well to squeeze out the second set but after missing a bp chance at 3-2 in the third he kinda collapsed.

This court really needs a challenge system. There were a lot of tight calls in the tb.

Over 50 unforced errors from Chardy.

The quality of calls matched the quality of tennis: poor!

Awful, mugtastic performance from Choke-dy and Almugro. With some extra icing on the cake from Lars Graf & his band of blind linesmen. :help:

Horrible, horrible match, except for the tiebreak when Chardy saved 3 MPs with 3 winners after being robbed of 2 points from the linespeople and the umpire.

Neither deserved to win. :help:

The next time I have free Sunday and I want to watch a tennis match - it will be neither Almugro nor Chardy. Such a waste of two hours :o

Just bad.

Abysmal tennis & pretty abysmal line calling.

Still, I'm disappointed for Jeremy

I didn't even bother watching, I knew it was going to be a mugfest :o

Epic 2nd set TB, Mugro having 3 MP's all saved with FHDTL winners from Chardy :D

This was the last time I put my faith in a Frenchie to win a tennis match  Absolutely abysmal from Chardy :o Querrey must be a complete moron to have lost to that DF no-second-serve master.

Apparently Chardy injured his back on a smash in the 3rd set, it would explain the incredible errorfest at the end.

I am sorry Chardy hurt himself, Truc but his problems didn't start in the 3rd set. His 2nd serve was MIA from the beginning of the match, many of his games went through 40-all, was serving for the 2nd set at 5-4 and got broken  Right from the beginning it was obvious he'd lose. Anyway I wish him speedy recovery if he's injured.

any news in that? will he be around for clay season? please let me know

No, nothing serious, but he says his back kind of seized up in the middle of the 3rd set, so I think it explains why the last games were so atrocious from him. He's prone to inconsistency and to choking, but that was not normal anymore, he was really netting every other shot.

The frequency of the word mug and its numerous variants seems to peak for all Almagro match threads, especially when he wins. OK, maybe its not used too much in this thread, but the sentiment is still there. This is one of the reasons I almost always hope Almagro wins. I wish he cracked the top 10 (so close in 2008, ranked 11) but there's still time.
