If he plays like that I wouldn't be surprised if Serra beats him tbh.

picked it up the last few games, played the break points really well, besides that groundies were off especially the forehand, the serve was great though.

enough to get the job done :yeah: should do well against Serra but Berdych will win if he doesn't pick it up :(

Better than another two of the Top 4, that's for sure, even though he couldn't hit a barn door off the ground for most of the match. I don't really mind that though, considering that he was disciplined on his own serve and amazingly took every breakpoint chance he had. I'll take a poorly played straightforward victory over an up and down dogfight any day.

Did just enough... got the impression early that was all he intended to do

pathetic? lol, non-tennis players and their superlatives...

Serve performed well, groundstrokes a bit error-prone but were improving with time not crumbling.

Pathetic from Fed :o

I disagree. It was routine from Fed.

Loads of shanks but effective when necessary.

3/3 bp

At this rate, if he reaches the fourth round, Berdych is going to defeat him in straight sets.

I remember seeing all of Federer's previous matches against Lapentti donkey's years ago, two of them were in Hamburg on clay where you might expect Lapentti to trouble him, but clearly Federer has enough power to hit through his spin when required and get the necessary breaks.

Lapentti was the better player today. Federer just lucked this one out.

Never in doubt, etc.
Feds in 'A Day at the Office'-mode, didn't need to do any more, and apparently was very aware of that. Okay job...
Will have to up his level though if he wants to have any chance of winning this, as this mediocre performance surely won't be enough.

Awesome outfit btw. Gonna get me that orange, collar-free tee, that's for sure. :hearts:

 to Lapentti, well done for a 33-year old... looking so gorgeous as well. :yeah:

Routine in every sense.

Nico held his ground on serve quite beautifully at the start. Fed's groundies were totally off but he picked it up a little in the second set.

A bit disappointing from Lapentti who is known for his huge fight, to be honest. Apart from that net point where he totally tricked Fed, there was not much to remember from this match.

Thought the scoreline would be a little tighter.

Good enough to beat a Lapentti or a Djokovic or a Murray but could struggle against Berdych.

Good to see Roger hting the ball clean in the last 3-4 games. 3 out of 3 bp converted for Fed. Now there's something you don't see evrey day.

Maybe 3 worthy points. Boring. Lapentti to Federer before match: "Listen old pal, you will win this in any case. Lets play slowly. And I will give you 7th game in both sets. I dont want to sweat to much." Fed: "Well... Today was nice weather."

Good serving from Fed, pretty bad off the ground. He shouldn't have any problems with Serra, but Berdych could be very problematic unless Fed raises his game.

I agree Lapentti played well tonight, but how did Federer "luck this one out"? Fed's serve was great, he hit some nice winning shots and, most of all, Lapentti could not capitalize on his own good play.

I have no problem with that, as long as Nadal loses early . I would hate to have to worry about 287 until June. :ras:

10 aces and 0 double faults in 9 service games will always make breaking serve difficult.

I dont know if it is the humidity but players are playing so bad in these courts, the ball seem heavy and the court unpredictable and slow.

Foxy, is everything allright? Seen Roger play much worse than that, it was an OK match. Lapentti is a good sport, he must have said something nice and funny at the net, wonder what that was.

awful forehand but fortunately it seems he has good reason for that, saying he was surprised about the conditions in night sessions, the balls "flying".

Also he didn't look much awake.

I liked the way he played in Indian Wells actually, I hope he can do better in that tournament.

At least the serve was very good and Lapentti is in bad form.

I like Roger, but Tennis loses. Just as with Nascar Jimi Johnson. He is winning left and right. Now, what was becoming Americas' most popular "sport" is right now, pretty stagnant. It's popularity is not where is once was or projected to be. The sheer domination of any one athlete or team can either damage the sport or make it so boring and as to become predictable. I'm at the really, really, really, bored stage.

Umm.. I don't think it is 2007 anymore. Fed now loses more than 5-6 matches a year.

Not at slams. :)

Otherwise I agree, he's def. not as dominant as he used to be. I think it was an entertaining season so far, with a lot of surprises.

If Roger were American he'd be bigger than Obama. The Yanks have never given a rat's ass to sports they don't dominate, nobody cares.

I'm sure you don't look forward to the clayseason then. It must be really boring for a Nadal fan to see Rafa winning left and right then and to endure the sheer domination of him in that part of the season.

Technically you can't lost more than four matches at Slam per year :P
