The MP was great. :worship:

So, so tight in that last game but he served extremely well when he really needed to. Congrats to him - look like it meant a whole lot understandably.

Murray and Djokovic need sport psychology or really just going back to basics. Forget and restart.

Wow...it's a good thing Mardy has such a great serve because his forehand is the GOAT choking stroke of all time.

Exciting clutch play at the end, very nice MP!

Murray trying to imitate Djokovic but got only as far as 5 DFs.

03-27-2010, 08:13 PM
Hilariously bad by Murray. He couldn't hit a single forehand at the end of the 1st set.

Mardy served well, but besides that he is still very far from what he was capable to do when he was in the Top 20. I wouldn't be surprised if Feli beats him in the next round.

Either we are into a Federer vs Nadal final or to another caliber final of IW last week!

Fish with his beastly serve pretty much nullified Murray's strength...first serves were untouchable and 2nd serves were unattackable.

Murray's forehand was as bad as i've ever seen it. Even his backhand started breaking down as the match went on.

I kept waiting for Fish to gag, but he was blasting first serves and racking up the easy points all the way through. Congrats to Mardy.

I've already seen Murray play worse than that ;)

Also I've seen worse body language from him.

Overall I think Nole's situation is still worse : Murray doesn't have such a problem as Djoko's serve

When Fish serves like that, it can go quite quickly

But too many errors from Murray, esp in first set.

yes I had seen him play worse in one set here and then but maybe not all match.

But second set was not so bad : it just went too quickly for him to come back.

The first point of final game (unforced error on 2nd serve return) costs him a lot, I guess, because Fish was breakable in that game.

Two observations:

1. What happened to Odesnik's HGH? (since he is American and all). Not accusing Fish but...

when you are so good at Slams that you can hold 3 Slams at 3 different surfaces and the final of the last one at 28 years old, no one can touch you even if you half assed in other tournaments, Nadal tried it before and fucked up his knees in the process, Del Potro pushed his body to the limits in USO to snatch a single slam off Fed, it's not easy to keep up with Fed by any era or field, he is THAT good so get over it.

Agree since the AO.

However, Murray and Davydenko were both in very good form in the AO and the serious drop off has happened since the AO. Djokovic was playing reasoble tennis. Certainly Murray and Djokovic were playing much better at the AO.

Mmmm hmm... Answer me this? Do u think Roger would actually get away with such a thing if we stuck in a field with another great player who wasnt almost ALWAYS undeperforming or was a constant injury case? He wouldnt get away with this shit if he had Pete, Laver, Borg, a Connors or a Mac around.. And ROFL with Del Potro pushing his body to the limits. Hes a kid for christ sakes. Hes not some old decrepid player with a ton of mileage under his feet at 30 some odd years old. What is he? 22?

Did Murray and Djokovic push their body to the limits too being young kids? Being outpushed by a guy close to 30 years old with hundreds of more miles on his legs such as Roger?? please... What an excuse. Being "burned out" or "pushing you body to the limit" should be an aspect for some of these older guys... Guys like Fed or Roddick.. Guys who have been around quite a long time.. That shouldnt be an excuse for some 22-23 year old tennis player in his first few years competing at the top.. Sorry.. Unless its Nadal whos been around the top for 5 years. Federer isnt beating these guys.. These guys are beating themselves

Didn't see it, but if Muzza played the type of passive tennis posters have described, he deserved what he got. Usually it is good enough to beat the majority of the Tour, but he just won't get it into his head that he needs to do more if he is to win the key matches (against the likes of Federer, Del Potro, Cilic etc).

He just isn't going to win a Slam unless he is prepared to make some changes. And he can start by playing some more matches instead of continuing with his ridiculous 'championsworthy' schedule of his. He needs to get match tough again.

Anyway, big congrats to Mardy...have enjoyed seeing some (:tape: ) of his tennis over the years, and hopefully he can manage a trip back to a position near top 50 this year. :yeah:

After the US Open Final loss there was hope for Murray and he starting talking fairly big about his future, but when the same thing happened at AO it really left no positives, a lack of confidence, and massive pressure next time he's deep in a slam (or at least at Wimbledon).

Unlike the Soderling match, I don't think he lost because he was being overpowered. Rather, he just didn't have anything on his shots, and whenever he went for more, he would miss. He was 'passive' in the same way Djokovic often is: he just looked flat out there.

There must something going on with him mentally, because I can't imagine him being able to play much worse tennis (there is a reason he got to no.3).

however, on his face I've found him more calm and confident than last few weeks.

Maybe looked less "fighting" but it was to stay calmer and seemingly more confident. His coach (McLagan) also smiled a lot. It seems that they had prepared this attitude.

It could have worked imo, but here the surface is a little bit quicker and there were just too many errors.

He didn't look "defeatist" as Djokovic has often looked recently.

Chela in AO 2006.
Boredo beating him in Vegas 2006 6-2 6-2.
Volandri's win over him in Rome 06.

You're right. Cause he doesn't need to, his pigeons are doing all the work for him.

And I don't understand why the AO final loss affects Murray that much, he was never in a position to win it. Fed was always the favorite, and Fed beat him comprehensively. Not like it was a tight match that can go either way. Murray should just get his head out of his ass, fight for the win. Even Fed and Nadal fight for their wins.

Yep, the irony is rather amusing I must say.

No need for him to have played Davis Cup...would have been travelling in the opposite direction, and we at least needed to see if our other players could stand a chance without him (and we now have our answer...:retard: ).

He should have played Marseille, Rotterdam or Dubai with the mindset of 'play to win' rather than as experimentation. Just one of those events would have done, unless he were to lose his 1st/2nd round (which these days would very rarely happen).

Hopefully he will try to enter Monte Carlo (even playing qualifying would benefit him if he is declined a WC) to get a few matches. Not going to be easy for him to make up lost ground...clay season will be tough.

Up until now, Murray was always the more consistent player in the MMs and TMSs and they've both reached the same amount of slam finals. Faker obviously has had the better career (because he was lucky enough to face MonoFed and not the Fed who was top class this year) but don't mean he's currently the better player.

I would say that on current form, Murray is better than Djokovic.

However, when you say "the worst nr.2", people usually interpret it as looking at the career of players whose career-high was nr.2 and then think who is the most "deserving". Surely this is speculative at best, but for example wouldn't Tommy Haas qualify as a worse nr.2 than Murray? He has no slam finals, 1 TMS IIRC. Even though he has a delicious backhand and a nice variety in his game, the results don't back it up.

Murray wasn't always the most consistent, rather he was more consistent recently when he hit his stride. Djokovic became a top player earlier and is now struggling. However, he still won Dubai, made AO QF, also at the end of last season won Paris Masters destroying Nadal, won Basel over Federer and made the Cincinnati final and USO SF. Yet you can't dispute the superior career achievements of Djokovic so far.

You're a tad biased here IMO :p
