story of Russell's career
Isner is good in the clutch moments though :yeah:

Russell was 2/7 on bp chances. Isner never had a chance to break

Crazy. The serve numbers were opposite of what you would think and John won 14 less points overall.

following the SB it looked like he was hanging in for dear life in the 3rd set, hardly getting anything on Russell's serve and barely surviving his own service games.

Russell: how to lose a match without facing a single bp.

Is this a double bagel?

With that scoreline you only need 2 points on your opponent's serve (over 3 sets).

Isner hit the scheduling wall I think, was wondering when that would happen.

Clutch as they come of course, but hard to see him beating Ferrero if he can't move.

Guy played a stormer against Guga in 2001 though. Injuries cost him though as he disappeared during years like 2003-04 which would have been his prime.

Anyway hope John can school Rafito this time unless Davey boy already sorts it.

Yes, after barely scraping past Russell he'll easily "school" Nadal.

This is a massive negative for a winner in three sets. It's a shame Russell missed out.

if only Russell was about 5cm taller...
but a win is a win for Isner, the guy is nothing but clutch :D

Come on John, you know you can play way better than that on return
But yet another win that shows his mental greatness.

Isner is the new clutch king in breakers next to Roddick :worship:

Russell won 14 more points than Isner

in second set Isner served 81% first serves but Russell won 54% of the points on Isner's serve.

Doesn't look good for Isner : I guess Ferrero will beat him as he's very good on passing-shots. Which would be good news for Tsonga as well, who hates big servers ;)

But he's a very good player on clutch moments

Isner is at his most comfortable in deciding set TB's, once it reached that stage it was inevitable.

Is Is Isner served plenty of aces in the final set tiebreaker, bit hard to choke when the other guy serves aces.

Isner is such a beast in deciding-set-tiebreakers...

4 in the first tiebreaker too, and on lots of the bps too :-)

Amazing that Russell didn't collapse earlier tbh, that must be unbelievably frustrating to be much the better player, and just get aced repeatedly on big points...... even on 2nd serves.

That's the thing playing massive servers, when you get a rare chance then it has to be taken, it's not like facing some other guys where there will be more break chances.

**** this one was tough. Every win for Mike is awesome, yet I want John to push into the top-15

I think Isner may break the top 15 at some stage but he will struggle to stay there. Thing is, because he seems to be capable of showing cojones at big moments, one big run to get a lot of points if he has a decent draw and plays a few good matches should be possible.
