Cloudygirl
05-22-2010, 01:59 PM
Well he does nothing to encourage them. Monfils would be jumping around right now. Richard's negative body language prompts silence.

He needs to work on his mental attitude still but such an improvement before now he wouldn't have even got this far.

Medical time out. He had so better not wimp out on Roland Garros.

Cloudygirl
05-22-2010, 03:14 PM
Richard took an injury break. He did pull up. Whether or not that was in his head or whether he forgot about it due to the adrenaline I don't know cos he seemed fine by the end.

Nando was an arse on court and got well and truely booed by the crowd. He looked epically pissed off during the trophy presentation too.

He surprised me today I hope he surprises me at Roland, Queens, Eastbourne and wimby too.

Has he just cracked top 50?

Defending no points until after USO yay!!

Yeah I don't think he shook the umpires hand..

I dunno what his problem was  what a brat. After the injury time out he was 4-1 and multiple BPs up, and 5-3. That didn't lose him the match :o But I will not be letting his diva attitude ruin the moment ;)

Anyway, I'm glad things are looking up but I'm cautiously celebrating. His only good win these 2 weeks came today and we know that Verdasco is not in great form, if we look at the scorelines of his matches this week... *anticipates being blasted in 3, 2, 1...*

How exciting! :)

He beat the world number nine after trailing 1-4 in the third.. wow wow wow. This will give his ranking a good boost as well as his confidence ready for the Murray match.
I think Verdasco is a better clay-courter than Murray so I think he has genuine chance to beat him. Don't want to get ahead of myself but if he beats Murray he could go pretty far, draw isn't too hard.

Cloudygirl
05-22-2010, 03:24 PM
Question, whats most important to Richard's confidence winning two weeks on the trot or perhaps making 4th round Roland at a push that's if he gets past Murray. Berdych and Baggy are both in his quarter and Fed is in his half.

I think, he and the team made the right decision at this stage. Nothing beats match wins and confidence and beating the no 3 player on clay this season will give him shed loads of confidence. Also winning two tournaments to the cheers of his home crowd. it can't be beaten really. He's not a slam contender yet imo but work like this and by wimby he will be.

Anyway, I'm glad things are looking up but I'm cautiously celebrating. His only good win these 2 weeks came today and we know that Verdasco is not in great form, if we look at the scorelines of his matches this week... *anticipates being blasted in 3, 2, 1...*

Considering where he's come from - EVERY win the past two weeks was a "good" win.

Exactly...Playing and winning matches...there is just no substitute for it. You can play as well as you like in practice, but it's these kind of wins that give you the push to do well in the bigger events. I really hope that happens for Richard. To think his ranking is now going way back up and he has like no points to defend, he could really be ranked high by USO time.

Yeah I don't think he shook the umpires hand..

I dunno what his problem was  what a brat. After the injury time out he was 4-1 and multiple BPs up, and 5-3. That didn't lose him the match :o But I will not be letting his diva attitude ruin the moment ;)

Yes after he missed the 3 points to lead 5-1 he started to act badly (some "puta madre francés" in the air). The commentators stated that at one point he imitated Gasquet limping. I guess he was furious about the medical time out. After he lost his temper the crowd went mad. Too bad for him. A top 10 acting like this...

As for the 1st round of RG, the french commentators said they would let him play on wednesday.

I totally agree: the wins in Bordeaux and Nice make up for a quarter final in RG.

We don't know what will happen there, he can lose first round or go far, but the two tourney wins are in the pocket.

Yeah it is really immature to act like that! Because like I said, after the injury time out he was still winning, so that was not the reason for anything. He just started acting like a diva, and you would expect more respect from a top 10 player who is like 26 years old. But if he wants to act 12, it's ok because Richard won and he did not :D

Sharapova and Gasquet on fire!
Maria Sharapova and Richard Gasquet will arrive at Roland Garros brimming with confidence. The Russian former world No.1 took the title in Strasbourg, the 22nd of her career, defeating Germany’s Kristina Barrois in the final. In Nice, a tournament making its return to the ATP tour circuit, the final between Gasquet and Fernando Verdasco was an absolute thriller. The Frenchman first served for the match at 6-3, 5-4, but the Spaniard upped the ante, levelling at one set all and leading 5-3 in the third. But just as it looked as if "FeVer", as he is known, would earn yet another clay title after his recent success in Barcelona, Gasquet roared back and took the match 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(5), to the delight of the fans down on the French Riviera. This is the Frenchman’s first title since Bombay back in 2007, and will not have gone unnoticed by Andy Murray, who will face the former world No.7 in the opening round on Tuesday.

Looks like it is a tuesday start then

Richard Gasquet, Andy Murray’s first-round opponent in the French Open, prepared for the contest by winning his first title in more than three years at the Open De Nice Cote D’Azur but then was denied his request for an extra day’s rest.

Gasquet, contacted the French Open’s referee, Stefan Fransen, asking if his match with Murray could be played on Tuesday instead of Monday.

Fransen was adamant in his ruling that the top half of the men’s singles draw will be played over the opening two days of the competition, and while conceding it would have been unfair to demand Gasquet travel from France’s south coast to Paris and be on court within 24 hours, it was felt the scheduling presented sufficient time.

Gasquet intends to make a second appeal when he arrives at Roland Garros today and said: “It would be fair to allow me another day to recover and I will speak to the referee as soon as possible.”

it would be preferable for both gasquet and verdasco to be able to play on tuesday, so that they may be able to get a bit of time to get settled to RG before their respective first round matches. but at the same time, i think gasquet should not be too persistent in getting the match to be scheduled on tuesday, and start to prepare as though he will play on monday. the last thing you'd want to happen is to have something that cannot be changed nag at you in the back of your mind, and then make you feel tired even before hitting on the court. rest up with the time you have, and prepare well :)

The LTA has declined Gasquet’s request for a wild card into the AEGON International at Eastbourne the week before Wimbledon. As he had twice won the tournament when it was held in Nottingham, is a former semifinalist at the All England Club and a wonderful grass-court player, Gasquet’s management felt that he would be welcomed with open arms, but entente cordiale is in limited supply.

It is not as if the Eastbourne draw is overflowing with riches, with the American pair of John Isner and Sam Querrey head and shoulders above the rest of the 32-man field in both a literal and metaphorical sense. Gasquet would have been a notable addition and will have plenty of time on his hands for grass-court practice should Murray do what most expect of him on Court Suzanne Lenglen this afternoon.

Tennis always takes a backseat to other sports in the U.S. I suppose people would rather watch highlights and listen to people blab about the ballgames they saw yesterday. EEWWW what is that shirt (GAG, GAG). Not liking that he changed from his lucky orange shirt.

THose looking for stream - www.channelsurfing.net has 5 courts and doesn't have the stupid pop up ads on the screen. In the US I think espen360.com has several courts (unfortunately my internet provided does not get that).

OH no!!! sounds like the channel surfing stream might have BRITISH announcers - does that mean I'll hear them going gaga over Murray - i might prefer the pop up ads.

ALLEZ RICHIE!!!!

Phew!! That white shirt is horrible, it looks like he has a sweater vest on over the top or something.. I much prefer him in colour. Alright, come on Richie! :)

GOOD - pull it out if he needs good luck!! Maybe he is trying to make Murray sick with that thing.

Good to hold on first serve. Announcer just said a rumor going around that he did not want to play on Chatrier court.

Murray could kill Richie with his famous drop shot if richie plays his usual court position.

He is playing pretty well so far.. question is whether he can sustain it.. Andy is trying to keep the rallies as long as possible by the looks of it
