It was much the same when Fed first came here (2008). Fed + King Kolya and then pretty much all the way down to challenger level mugs.

yes but Gremelmayr gave a lot of trouble to Federer then ;)

it was a good year for him on clay and now he's very very low

You're sooo right there. He is getting kind of choppy outside Grand Slams, isn't he?

With all due respect, I mean. :)

WC for Machado and Gil. 1 to go!

Filo V.
04-29-2010, 08:26 PM
Gil is in directly, so that is a WC spot opened up for another local. This draw could end up being really poor if Ljubicic and Davydenko pull out. If Roger goes through with it and plays, there is zero excuse for him to lose this event.

wonder if ljubo will stay in...i don't think his injury is serious, but he might pull out as a precautionary measure

Agree completely with you. Portuguese press say that maybe WC's for Leonardo Tavares and who know's Andy Murray. The draw is tomorrow 15h00 portuguese time...

Would be smart if Andy accepted a WC here. He needs as many matches on clay as possible. Leonardo would be an obvious choice, but he hasn't had a great season, maybe playing at home would help him. The draw is tomorrow so they don't really have time to get a big name. Hopefully for the tournaments sake that Roger doesn't tank, and Davydenko shows up.

I hope that Bellucci is smart and asks for a WC here!! Now with Cuevas out , there's no need for him to play against Uruguay.

he has won two 250 tournaments in the last 12 months, it´s useless for hm ro play estoril, as he cannot improve his ranking anymore, unless he´s interested in prize money, match practice etc.

- Ljubicic would be wise to pull out, as others are suggesting.

- I'll be shocked if Murray decides to play, although it would be a good opportunity for him to get some extra matches (which he desperately needs, even thinking ahead to grass).

Bellucci isn't subject to that rule. This season he will be able to count 6 optional events towards his ranking. So he has plenty of points he could gain, and besides the prize money would probably still be a good motivator for him considering that he is still new to the higher levels of the game.

Smart of Gael to choose Estoril. Court suits his game better, and the entry list is easier, so he can win matches.

It would have been interesting to see this tournament without Ljubicic, Monfils and Davydenko and see what Roger did as the only main guy, and then really have a good opportunity for some of these challenger or lesser ranked guys, but I'm sure the tournament is happy that the draw is at least acceptable for an ATP tournament.

it's better for Federer : he doesn't need points in Estoril (Madrid is the key for that), he needs tough matches :yeah:

And he's often played his best tennis against Monfils  (last year his best clay game came back in RG against him ;) )

It says it could be either the polish or Marrero

Ad Wim

The rule is that it'll be Prz, because he was the highest ranked LL, but if he left the tournament and couldn't report himself, Marrero is probably IN. The fact that it only says LL in the draw, maybe means that they don't know yet...

But I guess that, since Ljubo and Monfils were uncertain beforehand, he wouldn't leave Estoril.
