Congrats Ljubo, so deserved.

Bottom line for Roddick is this: He went from being a 21 year old with an explosive game to a 28 year old that literally cannot hit a single winner on a slow 6'4 31 year old. And for this, he deserves what he gets.

It's a sad day for tennis when a washed up never-man wins a masters title due to everybody else stinking up the court. Shame on all of you for allowing this travesty, Novak, Rafa, and Andy. You are all better than this. Your punishment - http://i38.tinypic.com/2vj8nso.jpg

I would have been p*ssed if Andy won this. Here is why. Ljubu beat Novak and Nadal enroute to getting this title. It wasn't easy. I never thought he'd beat any of these 3 guys at this age. Great stuff. Nice way to close out his career, if he doesn't win another big title that is. Roddick was awfully close to breaking him, so I always thought a third set would be easily Roddick's. So glad that didn't happen.

It's funny to think that Ljubicic failed to get that MS title when he was right at his peak, because he was so close in all three finals, even the one against Federer in Miami; and yet now at the age of 31, he arguably had a tougher route through than he did in those previous events and he made it over the finish line. I've said it before, he's one of the most interesting people on tour and he always gives the best interviews, with actual opinions and perspectives rather than the usual sporting cliches.

Imagine how this must feel for Roddick, losing final after final to Federer than facing the easiest draw in his life and playing a 31 year old to win a big title...

It's exciting to see a 31-year-old guy like Ljubo thinking of retirement and then defeat three Tops in a row (Djoko, Nadal, Roddick... well, Monaco was also there) and win a MS title. Tennis is about those great unexpected moments. None of my favorites won but I'm equally happy for the Croat. How boring would it be if always the same ones won the tournaments. Now, Djoko win Miami!

I have read that Ljubo won't be on the Croatia Davis Cup team when they face Serbia in a few months. Is this true?
Right now, he's playing better tennis than Čilić or Karlović.
Just imagine, Serbia with Nole, Troicki and Tipsy (+ Zimonjić in doubles) against Croatia's Čilić, Karlović AND LJUBO! What a matchup!

he wasn't too much nervous. he tried with ace on 2nd servise (on 6:2 you will do that) and just mistaked with challenge (you can see he was nervous with that, but just little). on 6:5 he made giant service on 1st service. if you are too much nervouse you will not do that.

In his prime, Legenda was one of those big servers who never served big when it really mattered. I was amazed at his clutch serving and gutsy play today.

Poetic justice - it would be very unfair if Legenda retired without a TMS/1000 title.

Roddick was in full pusher mode just like in the SF, but that wasn't what cost him the match - it was playing shite in both TBs.

I wonder if the pusher strategy is hand made specificaly to beat Federer, he certanly causes more trouble for Federer pushing the ball back and running down everything, not giving Federer any pace to feed on and no easy errors. Anyway, I dont think it is a good strategy against the rest of the tour and definetly not for a long career.

What a fantastic result for Ljubicic! Even with the other big scalps he had already claimed enroute to the final, I was not too confident in him winning the title against Roddick - not because the American was favoured 'on paper' but because so many players experience a letdown in such situations after having a fairytale run and it doesn't actually have a 'happily ever after' ending... So I'm thrilled that, whatever the quality of the match (which I didn't see) may have been, the Croat finally claimed a MS shield :yeah: As for Roddick, reaching the final was a commendable acheivement and it sounds like he was classy in a somewhat unexpected defeat, unlike a certain fangirl of his on here

Just finished watching this match and I thought it was a pretty entertaining affair, despite Andy being one of the contestants [or that Tracy Austin and Brett Haber were calling the action].

Great to see Luby win his first M1000 after being shut-out in his first three, and the intense training with four hours of daily conditioning are clearly paying dividends! I thought fatigue would get the best of him here in the final.

And poor Andy :awww: , the unofficial whipping boy of tennis aficionados worldwide ... well, I thought he actually played pretty well and within himself. He just got beat by the better man today. And as Andy approaches the twilight of his career, I think in many ways he’s actually overachieved given his weakness from the baseline, unimaginative style of play, and low court IQ.

Congrats Ljuby for a well-deserved and AMAZING victory! [ ... esp. considering the depth of field.]

Berdych's win in Paris is very similar to this LJubicic's title.

Berdych won Bercy by beating 2nd seed (Coria), ex number 1 (Ferrero) and ...LJubicic.:D

Losing three previous masters finals explains tangerine_dream's description of LJubicic in post I quoted.;)

LJubicic is one masters shield holder, like Robredo and Berdych. That is fact.:)

So, you STFU.:wavey:

I (and tangerine_dream whose post I quoted) made my point clear - LJubicic and Berdych and Robredo won their only masters titles because top guns are/were off. They (all three of them) got chanse and used it. Kudos for that.

Your spinning won't change facts.

1 = 1 = 1

And the small difference is that Ljubo made big guns off and when Robredo and Berdych won their tittles big guns haven't played in Hamburg or Paris

It must hurt very hard :haha:

This was a very nice surprise. Ljubo won his first big title. :D
I do feel for Roddick though. Such hard work should get rewarded. Despite so many heart breaking disappointments he is still very consistent, motivated to work hard.

The discussion isn't about how many tittles have which player , that's clear . Discussion is about what tittle is more deserved and more impressive . You lost the plot . Poor desperate man :wavey:

Ljubicic is above them because of Davis Cup 2005. There aren't too many examples in history like Ljubicic's one that a country won Davis Cup with such an impressive run of one player in singles and doubles within a season (8-1 singles, 5-0 doubles... counting playoffs '04).

samanosuke, oranges... perhaps deathless mortal? But where is the fourth one?

You know that joke where daddy-rabbit is teaching his sonny-rabbit how to jump on bunnies? So he brings three bunnies over there and says - now watch me -

... one, two, three! See, not hard at all. Now you try.

And the young rabbit goes -

... one, two, three, four! Oops - sorry daddy... :haha:

Good try  - however, Djokovic is bound to win more slams, whereas you should be pretty damn optimistic to expect another masters shield for Legenda. :)

Well, it serves the purpose for now since it's very similar in that it has one player who's been deep in slams more than that one time, one talented headcase and one who simply took the opportunity presented ;) As for bound to win more, Murray's been bound to win one for third year now

I believe he will, more than just one. He's still young.

Of course, no guarantees whatsoever. Nothing is guaranteed in life; the Earth might explode in two months time, for example.

Aggressive and genocidal aliens might finally arrive...
