Toad was playing atrociously in the third set, UE after UE after UE and there were tons of service breaks in the last two sets, both guys were pretty off in that regard

Good for Duck, as usual the most consistent player, but I'll be rooting for Ljubo to win this now ;)

A very unexpectedly topsy-turvy match, with no tiebreaks and several of breaks of serve – particularly in the final two sets. Those who predicted this to be a match dominated by the serve were not fully incorrect as there were a good number of aces thrown in for good measure, but in each case the break of serve arose primarily from a string of a few poor serves as opposed to superior play from the returner.

Roddick will be happy to have registered his first win over Soderling in three matches today, having squandered breaks of serve early in the second and third sets. He will now enter his first Masters 1000 final in 3 and a half years (and his first final at Indian Wells) as the favourite against Ljubicic.

Who would have predicted that line-up for the final?

Great win for Andy as he was the more mentally solid player in the end.

Robin was really off with all his shots today, which led me to believe he was quite nervous of the situation which is understandable as it is his first MS semifinal. Robbie Koenig was talking about how he saw Robin hitting quite poorly on the practice courts, so I think he was pretty nervous about the match.

Oh well, I think Robin should of done better and play it safer than he should of. He was being good mentally by not getting too negative, but I think he went for too much and Roddick at the very least kept returns in play and pressed Robin to go for more than he needed to by hitting those deep looping forehands and slice backhands.

Well. I guess that's a talent right? Now Nadal or Federer wouldn't usually choke like Soderling did. I think the wind also helped Andy. And Soderling himself self destructed. When he broke Roddick in the third, I thought he was going to win but he just couldn't put points together. Djokovic is guilty of choking against Roddick too.

How is Roddick's draw a joke if Soderling was supposed to have soundly beaten a pusher like him? Sod owned him 2-0, remember? Rafa's draw was a joke...up until he lost to a washed-up 31 year old. Federer's too, until he suddenly, inexplicable didn't feel like winning anymore.

Had Nadal won earlier, Soderling would have thrashed Roddick. :o

warm regards...

Boy. How much I miss that Wimbledon final when Roddick was crying a river. My god. That was the best memory I have had from Tennis in years.

PATHETIC HATERS, LIKE YOU, NEED TO GET A LIFE! There were some very fine points in this match, with Roddick being more consistant in the final set. Having said that, I would like to see Ivan win this match as it will probably be his last chance to win a very big tournament.

But... he didnt change anything... Soderling just started hitting less UEs and he started winning.

This is not true. After breaking Söderling, Andy had a horrible game that had basically nothing to do with Robin, but simply his own game. (I don't make excuses here because the same thing happened to Söderling when he got broken in the second set. ) So, if after breaking in the second set, Andy hadn't played such an awful game and consolidated the break, the second set might have turned out differently.

Another thing that people haven't talked about was that Söderling was having amazing success with pinning Roddick on the backhand side with backhand after backhand and then hitting a clean backhand winner down the line. That was terrific. Roddick wasn't getting near those balls. Then after awhile, Andy managed to get a racquet on one -- didn't win the point. But that was the beginning of him starting to solve the problem of that pattern. Söderling missed one (in the third set I think) and that was the beginning of the end of that pattern. It didn't play the same role in the third set.

Robin did many many things very well in the match, and he was very aggressive. I think sometimes it took a toll on him to be going after the winners again and again. It didn't seem as if Andy could win after he was broken back early in the third set because that was like deja vu all over again from the second set. It was mental fortitude and toughness that won it for Andy. I think because Andy gets so anxious and nervous during matches (read irritable) that sometimes he isn't given credit for the mental part of his game. He began to get nervy toward the end of the third set. Little things were bothering him, but he managed to hold himself together.

Andy played like shit but demonstrated why he's a champion and former world #1.
Yep, the better player won. :)

 Come on. Are there any real Soderling fans around? My guess is they're just Rafa-haters. :p

Why not? The guy's got game and a "no bullshit" attitude that appeals to some people. I'm his fan and I know many posters who are true SodaKing fans.

Yeah, well some people may, just may, call him a d1ck but some people like him :p. To each their own.He does have a different attitude than most - he actually dares to be himself. None of this disgusting "OH I'M SO HUMBLE AND IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT I DELAY THE MATCH THROUGHOUT BECAUSE I HAVE MUCH TOPSPIN NO"-crap.

But seriously, watch an interview with Robin, the dude's normally really nice.

And yes, I'm a real fan.

Yeah I've seen interviews and I like him. I understand why some people might not like him, but on the other hand I've never been a fan of false (?) modesty and being overly courteous (not talking about any specific player here, just in general). While I think that it's common courtesy in sports that if you lose you give some credit to your opponent, I don't think you shouldn't say what you think about someone's antics or gamesmanship if that's how you feel.

This might be worse than Djokovic/Kohlschreiber and get the crown of tournament's worst match.

HORRIFIC.

Soderling blew chance after chance and Roddick has developed into the biggest freaking pusher on the tour, he does nothing, it's sickening.

My guess is she feels superior to other posters, both morally and intellectually. Doesn't like to give any justification for her opinions, perhaps because if someone gave arguments against them, she wouldn't feel as smart as she would like

Or maybe she just doesn't give a sh1t and likes to mess with people

Because I find much of what is written on General Messages, indeed all of MTF, very amusing. :D

Will say that I don't feel morally or intellectually superior to anyone. We're discussing people hitting a ball over a net, and/or what they have to say about that ;)
