Congrats truba!!! what a tiebreak and what a fighting spirit. He couldnt put a return in play in the first set and was struggling in the second, fight off 4 bps in 3-4 in the second I think and struggled to win a rally on his own serve in the third and still He won playing a great tb.

I hope he can win in the final, He deserves an ams.

No way I could see this coming. WTH happened?

Ljubicic, 31 years old, in an MS final. And people claim 2006 was a weak year, at least he was younger back then

In a way, I hope for Roddick making the final - a Ljubo-Roddick final would be some MTF nostalgia.

I was on the edge of my seat the entire match! I am so glad Ljubo has been in this kind of form since last fall. Hopefully he can possibly bring this form in the slams this year. I hope Ljubo wins the title to complete this dream storyline. Sorry Robin :( you're still young, you'll have other chances.

Lopez
03-20-2010, 09:55 PM
The key point in the tiebreak was the second point when Rafa returned a huge Ljubo serve, outplayed Ljubo and charged the net... Then hit a brainless volley to Ljubo's backhand with Ljubo not having to run at all, then Ljubo hit a decent pass and Rafa netted the volley.

Embarrassing stuff Rafa, go work on the doubles. This was reminiscent of the Davydenko final earlier this year. Good news at least that he's healthy and playing well, just doesnt have his confidence back yet.

This was alot like the match he had with Davydenko, before Australia. He outplayed him most of the match, and then loses again. Physically he seems to be moving well. He just has lost it mentally, and as good as he is, it could even impact the clay.

Nadal was playing great till he missed three chances to break Ljubo in the third set, then Parera started to make strange (for him) unforced errors.
I think Nadal has no problem with his body currently, but he may be a little burned out mentally, and finding it harder to focus for a whole match.

He doesn't have a big serve and has to win 4 or 5 rallies every game to win the game, that is very demanding mentally.

It is extraordinarily rare to see a player lose a TB 7-1 and STILL win more points in that set (which Nadal did, 39-38), and win six more points overall than his opponentin a best-of-three match, especially since Nadal didn't win his set with a dominating scoreline.

It's strange to see Nadal lose these types of matches. Great TB by Ivan though.

there was no real need for true nadal fans to feel ashamed of any kind of results until montecarlo........because true nadal fans know that nadal is not a naturally talented player to return on any surface and swing his way to title wins........the case with him has always been that he first has to play on clay and then take that form to other surfaces to be successful........

No, case open. Nadal is still injured, and will only win everything once he is not injured. Any time he loses, he is either injured or doesn't care too much about the tournament. When he is not injured, he is the greatest of all time, no contest. So easy.

It would be a fairy tale for him if he could get the title, but a victory for Andy would be nice as well and give him selfconfidence for the rest of the season.

Surprising that Rafa couldn't use his chances in the match, but it was his first tournament since the AO and it's obvious that he lacks the selfconfidence which he had one year ago.

For the mental part it's surely a good sign that he was able to win the doubles and can leave Indian Wells with a title after all.
