I think Ljubicic has a good chance if he serves well. He best stay out of the long rallies, then he will lose. But just because Rafa beat Berdych whos hardly a titan of the game in two tight sets doesnt make him unbeatable. Even Isner could have beaten him and i think Ljubos better of those two. We shall see, Rafa probably but i think this is far from a certainty.

Legenda would need a quicker surface to compete.

dont think so

perfect conditions for him...balls fly fast through the air...but the surface is slow enough that he can return solid with his massive swings

on faster court his returns wolud be awful

You call a Masters tournament where he is the current title holder a pointless event? This tournament is exactly what he seems to need right now: To get lots of matchpractices and gain selfconfidence.

yes it is pointless in the overall scheme of things for 2010........if he wins the title, it may provide some relief but he already knows why he has been losing and also knows that he is not playing his best.......so the impact of victory will not be too high on his mind........

besides, this tournament may provide some match pratice but it doesn't help him much to regain his original dynamics........clay will provide that........so it doesn't matter a lot even if he wins this tournament, his tennis starts at montecarlo.......

A lot of players seem to struggle a bit at the moment or are out with injuries. Rafa said himself that he was very pleased with his tennis already earlier this year.

This is his first tournament since the AO and it's very helpful for him to play also doubles here in IW in order to work on his game.

We all know that he will be the main favourite for each tournament once the clayseason starts, but to go into that season with good performances from Indian Wells and Miami won't hurt.

03-20-2010, 02:19 PM
okay, it won't hurt as long as he doesn't hurt himself in the clay season by trying too hard for these hardcourt titles which are of relatively lesser value........

Why are the hardcourt titles of lesser value as the ones on clay?

Rafa said he is physically fine and as we have seen he didn't played Rotterdam and Daviscup as he wasn't 100% fit. So I'm sure he pays a bit more attention to his body this time, which he also said in regarding to his schedule for the clay season.

i knew he cannot play his best tennis until he gets his ass on to clay and rediscover his dynamics(movement as well as his own groundstroke mechanics)........since the serious injury at the french open, the returning surface(which has always been a hardcourt) was just not the kind of surface which restrings his game together........even if he had won the indian wells, it wouldn't have been in a convincing fashion but only by scrambling........

he is trying too hard to pump himself up but internally he knows this nonsensical approach is just not going to do it for him........to play his best on hardcourts, he needs to play on clay and carry that form and confidence to other surfaces........really that's been the successful and right method always.......

come montecarlo, you will see that real belief in him because clay will provide what he really needs at this moment........indian wells loss for him is another event of zero significance/value........it was never going to affect him mentally even if he had won it........he is well aware of the right approach that leads him to his best form but he is being way too stubborn to avoid playing these pointless events........

Exactly. Nadal is clearly not back to form, and is playing horrible tennis, and yet is making the semis (albeit of pointless tournaments). I guess it reflects and emphasises that this is a mug era, but that's besides the point.

And of course, Nadal will win all clay events this year, and will be unbeaten for the rest of the year. You heard it here first. So easy.
