Nice win for the big man. :worship: Nadal is going to have his hands full.

I've never seen Isner playing so relaxed, it was like a practise session with a buddy not a big event
Isner rules in tie-breaks. In the Top 100 only Federer has better % of winning tie-breaks (Federer 65 %, Isner 64 %).

Isner is an absolute gun, I doubt he'll ebat Nadal but I hope he does.

A good, taut match with UNBELIEVABLE serving from Isner. What was made clear to me tonite, is that at this stage in their careers, Isner is simply the better overall player. He has the better serve [1st and 2nd], better return of serve, and is far more aggressive than Querrey. And if he continues to serve like he did tonite [79% 1st serve, 11 aces], Rafa’s going to seriously, seriously have his hands full. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if Johnny pulled off the upset.

Big John knows his limits completely, and therefore is able to maximize his potential. All players have limits like this, but I guess it takes someone with such striking advantages vs disadvantages, as well as a great coaching staff to maximize potential. John is never going to be number 1 in the world, but if he can get his 1st serve to Karlovic level and improve his volleys he could be a serious contender for the US Open. If only Roddick could realize this he would be a much better player.

I didn't see the match but the detailed stats on ATP's website are even more impressive : Isner really dominated the match :clap2:

The match against Nadal should be a big one, in a tournament (and a season apart from Aus Open) which is not great so far comparing to last year

only thing : Isner should avoid Nadal's forehand passing shot which looked great yesterday

but if he can get his 1st serve to Karlovic level

i do not think that this is a good idea

he have a nice kick serve and hes using it well...Karlo is going for an ace on every 1st serve..its better when you are able to mix it up IMO

I'm surprised. I didn't expect this result at all. Just goes to show the ups and downs on any given day. I don't see John repeating this level of play tomorrow against Nadal. Nadal's passing shots are much too good for John to come in on. I say Nadal 6-4, 6-4, with possibility one of those is a 6-3 set if Nadal serves 1st.

Heh, good remark. Predicting a scoreline is much more tougher without a knowledge who serves first. If Nadal serves first, obviously 6-4 6-4 will be less probable than 6-3 6-4, especially that he won first match against Schuettler 6-4 6-4 - it happens rarely that a player wins two matches in the same tournament with the same scoreline :)

John almost looked bummed at the net after he won, as if to say sorry to Sam. Fun match to watch. Both these guys didn't stall and towel off every three seconds. I can't wait to see Nadal V Isner. Really curious to see how this plays out being that they've never met.

Too bad I couldn't watch this match, according to the stats is was a good one.
Congrats Isner! :hatoff:

And yes, these two are obviously very promising players for the USA. Well done from both.

Here are a couple reasons ...

1] He beat him at Memphis less than a month ago.

2] He was playing at home.

I love those players. Wasting no time between points, just letting their play speak. Isner looked ready for Nadal.

Good points, also
3. Better groundstrokes and movement.

..but a great serving day out of Isner negates all these things fortunately!
