Berdych was absolutely unplayable, made almost no UEs, excellent shot selection and very good serving :yeah:

Nando didn't stand a chance

Truly a sad's day in tennis. Simon Reed's #1 player in the world forgot how to play tennis.

Amazing performance from Berdych, especially that first set: barely any UEs, clean ball striking, excellent serving, returning, etc. The second set was hardly any less perfect. A joy to watch (sorry, Verdasco fans), the best - most convincing - tennis performance I've seen in the tournament so far. Verdasco (sorry, just not your day today ) had *no idea* what hit him and couldn't wait to get out of there at the end. Congrats, Tomas! :yeah: :hatoff:

Well now let's await how Berdych will play his next match, as we all know, Berdych can be amazing one match and total Birdsh*t in his next one. Part of the attraction of the guy, I daresay. :D

And he's damn cute when he smiles while signing the camera. :hearts:

This comes out of the blue.
Is Berdich a bad matchup for Verdasco or something?

Amazing play from Tomas. To be fair, Verdasco looked out of sorts from the beginning and was never able to settle down. Good luck to Tomas against Troicki, he should beat him, but then again, he is an idiot.

wow, can't believe one headcase beat another so convincingly. this had the potential to be a slow, torturous death of a match. glad to see one of them brought a brain to the court.

Oh yeah it's not easy to blow Nando of all people off the court so full credit to Tomas. ;)

Well that's a bit stupid because he's made a GS semi. Berdych hasn't done that. ;)

Are those stats right? They don't seem to indicate what people in this thread are saying. Clowndasco 11 winners 28 errors. Berdych 12 winners and 11 errors.

Those are the combined stats of both sets (and of course, like always, the interpretation of the dude that happens to be recording them...). Like I said, Berdy's 1st was immaculate, just one UE... the 2nd was closer but still Verdasco was without any chance. Anyways, try to find a recording/re-run and see for yourself. ;)

Verdasco was just off, Berdych was good, but not brilliant. A shame.

Berdych vs. Troicki should be interesting. Troicki finds himself in the 4th round having only played one game!

You never know what to expect from Berdych, do you? Now watch him lose to Trocki next.

Horatio Caine
03-16-2010, 10:14 AM
Not particularly surprised that Berdych won, but the manner of the win is somewhat shocking.

Judging by the stats, it would seem that Berdych was having one of his best days (similar to the Baggy Brisbane match earlier this year, and a 1 in 10-20 occurrence), in which case only a few players could maybe have had a chance to stop him. Or maybe Verdasco just made him look great. :o

Theoretically, he should get revenge over Troicki next (even better that Troicki has only played one game this tournament!), but with Berdych anything is possible...

This is a joke right? He's by far the slowest player (may in the last 10 years) to ever exist in top 10. With his absolute dung backhand, he's definitely not hard to hit off the court.

Ad Wim
03-16-2010, 12:14 PM
He said in an interview that he wanted his best year so far this year, but I don't think he will ever have a year as last year. He will be a steady 15-20 in the coming years. Maybe 10-15 once in a while, but no top 10 anymore. This big loss is just utter shit though, incredible.

Fernando also played poor in first match.. nothing strange here

Rafa really saved the AO 2009 beating this man after his best match ever.. in final he would lost to Federer even before going on court. Nothing even close from Nando after that match
