Yes, thread title is a joke.

Djokovic keeps winning tough matches... and my draw challenge is still alive! Nole lost nine games in a row from 2-0* in the second set, not good. Came back and then saved 3 consecutive match points at 5-4* with clutch play.

Kohli played an atrocious tiebreak and it was over.

When this mental giant Nole actually starts playing well, he might win some bigger tournaments :p.

Until then, at least it's "awesome" entertainment .

The Funny thing is that people have been saying that since the Dubai QF.

He's winning because he keeps the ball in play, nothing else. In previous times, even as recently as 2004-05, there was none of this better pusher shit deciding who won a match, the better attacking player would nearly always win the contest.

Never happens now. Except for Fed, and whenever anyone takes it to Nadal and wins.

I actually think Novak played a very strong first set. He looked like the Novak of old. Hit only 3 errors, only 2 winners, but he was hitting pretty aggressively off both sides. There wasn't much spinny crap, he was hitting crosscourt and down the line.

But he was utter crap for the rest of the match. It was pathetic. It's ridiculous that he turns into such a pathetic pusher, and then when he's in trouble he thinks to himself 'fuck it... I'll try and be aggressive', and hes pretty good at it. The first two mp's he saved was good play coming to the net. Why not do it more?

Lucky one for him to win. But Kohli deserves all the blame. Pathetic to not be able to win this against a guy playing this crap. And as Rocketassist said - this type of match seems to always signify the era we are in. No surprise that Murray, Djoko, and Rafa are the best retrievers/movers on tour, and they're in the Top 5. And it's a solid attribute of Fed. Just get the balls back, and everyone will implode.

Djoko played excellent and faultless when he needed to (at 4-5, 5-6 and TB), quality of a true champion. The 8th mathc in a row he wins when trailing big time.

Federer has done this tons of times over the years. His style of play is just nicer, but the quality stays the same: keep fighting, patient and play your best and the big points.

timing was never much of an issue with djokovic, not with all that bouncing. I think itll work fine with practice (reason why he fooled around and nearly tanked today).

either its momentum thing, or more of a mental, get the shit out of the mind kind of thing. its an extra quirk on technique, but not as big to create a fuss. we shall see.

Y'know, I think part of the problem might be that he hasn't played a top player this year. It's not his fault, when he goes deep into a tournament all the other top guys have lost or withdrawn!

He looks really lacklustre and uninspired on court; I think he'd relish the challenge of playing one of the big guys, it'd give him some excitement. He'd obviously have to up his game - but it might be what he needs to do just that. Hopefully he can set up a semi with Nadal.

Gret record by Kohli > fifth of five lost tie-breaks this year, eight in a row.

This match would be the worst ever in some 14-16 challenge tournament in Zanzibar.

But Novak still winning with no game, game-plan, serve...that's only matters.

He plays very good first set, start good in the second and then fall apart...

No, this year 0-4, 7 in a row. He had good tie-break record (45-35) until QF in Cincinnati 2008 where he lost the only match so far 6-7 6-7 (to Karlovic). His TB record since then has been absolutely pathetic: 13-29 :help:

acts like a brat when he's losing and blames the coaches, the court, the balls, the weather > opponent chokes and hands him the match > he celebrates as if he knew he had it won all along

Today he was like non-Novak, without showing emotions but you already know that. Your way of such a silly and childih hate amaze me more and more.

Nice gorilla impression from Jokeovic. And that dance:o How can anyone root for this mug?

Nole was again sick because of the sun, he is never prepared for sun during middle day. He needs to drink more water and some alkaline elements. He almost gave up match again , this is almost too much but a great match. He was playing securely , everytime he tried to change direction of the ball, he lost a point because he was bad physically. When will it start to payoff ? He needs to start winning everything now

I completely agree! I think Novak is playing so bad these days because he hasn't played against a top 10 since last year! He doesn't like the pressure of winning these tough matches against guys that in his own words "have nothing to lose". When he meets the likes of Nadal, Murray and Federer then he will rise his level... or that I hope.

not quite.

“I just don't understand why I didn't do that throughout the whole match,” Djokovic said. “I've changed the concept and the tactics for no reason.”

“It was all my fault, and I put him back into the play. He regained the rhythm, and he was just a point away from the victory. So these things frustrate me a little bit, but what can you do?”

“It's a fact that I'm not feeling the ball 100 percent,” he said, “and I know that, and people who see the match, they know that. Look, it's a sport. You cannot always play your best.”

ah ok :)

frankly, I dont give a toss for what he does here. he can drop a spot for all I care. usually I would mind it, cause I want to see players fight for it and all, but heres an exception cause djoker is kind of remodeling his game. thats pretty much obvious. as people have noticed, he even appeared more calm and regal, probbly cause of martins input.

anyway, I cant wait for clay season to start, djokers game is right up there for the surface and it should be a cracker again esp if he plays nadal.

it just hit me. you know what djokovic's major setback is? he's too good of a friend with guys on the tour. yes thats right.

notice how both him and kohli acted at the net - it was like, 'good one buddy', or 'see ya later, alligator' kinda tap, or a wink...

and how much that is admirable, I think it is really hindering him. it deprives him of that killer instinct a bit.

how much people rely on match point congratulations to think they know about the relationships between players is always something which strikes me

Tsonga always congratulates Djokovic very cheerfully in the end of the match, but some of his comments about him are not really tender

Remind me when Nole gets the ATP award from other players ;)

you are wrong on all points.

firstly, MP congrats and general attitude is usually very good indicator of what is going on in there. look at fed vs davy in london last year. and we know what fed is like so no surprise there.

tsonga might be an exception, but what you described probbly means not much more than tsonga is bit of a faker.

nole will get that award I dont doubt it.

and finally, djokovic has never once said or done anything remotely insulting or ill-behaved toward other players (well at least in recent years). during or after a match, he basically never excuses his loses, or puts some garbage spin on them, and is pretty honest about his game and state of mind and that stuff. thats why nobody has any grudge against him, nor he against anyone else. he simply looks complex-free  and that might be a bad thing day in day out for a sport where you need that mustard, agrresiong, arrogance, edge, whatever...

it's like couples : people can guess, but when one has had experience about such discrepancies, one is far more cautious.

we are obviously talking apples and oranges here. there is no other way to discuss on a forum other than speculate on what is really happening, since no one knows everything about anything from first hand experience.

ergo, there is no point in saying 'dont speak about it if you dont know' (cause this forum would not exist), but you should rather offer some contra arguments.
