 Another one bites the dust.. !
Greul to play either Melzer or Nalbandian next.

If Nalbandian wins tonight, I'm pretty sure we'll have a Roddick vs Nalbandian match

Greul :worship: Gael  :fiery: What the fuck was that?

Greul played a horrible first set, but hang in and Gael lost his patience and the match with it.

Awesome BP conversion by Greul , great to see Clownils out.

Good effort from Greul actually....Monfils lost his way from the second set onward but credit to Greul for really thinking things out and finding some tactics, especially net approaches, that left Monfils stranded behind the baseline.

Some very good play from the German but Monfils typicall seemed to have no idea how to turn things in his favour again.

Greul played amazing in the 2nd and 3rd set. Just like he did against Federer at the last US Open. Hitting the lines, playing very attacking, nice to see. Monfils was shit in those sets and played 5 metres behind the baselines as usual.

Good result!

Good to see players like Greul peaking at an older age. He's 29 next month and reached his career high of 56 last month.

If only Greul could put together a few good tournaments a year :o

Too true.

The conditions favoured the attacking and forcing play of Greul who hit hard from the baseline and finished at the net.

It proved difficult winning far behind the baseline defending.

edit: actually he did and won by ret.!

Nice win for Simon! :D
He can really play some great tennis and he needs those points after an awful start into 2010!

If Gasquet loses two close breakers to Greul, he is a a useless mug, if Monfils loses to the same guy a set and a break up, Greul payed well.

Even more so as Monfils is currently ranked much better than Richard.

I wasn´t the one who said that about Gasquet :p
Anyway, I just think that it isn´t a shame to lose against Greul, he beat many good players in his career, just not consistent enough...

Well quite - if Greul played against Richie like he did in sets 2 and 3 against Monfils the loss no longer looks quite so bizarre.

I just quoted you, because you rightly pointed out that Greul played well, and I agree, I watched large parts of the match. I just wanted to point out MTF's double standards in general.

We'll never know, but it might be a possibility.

I understand, but u cant take such users serious, we all know that many players on ATP tour can play on a high level, it is just about the consistency often and about staying healthy throughout the whole career, but those who post that, they just see the result, in your case "Greul def. Gasquet 76 76", and think then "wow, what an idiot, losing to a player like Greul!"

Don't forget he had very tough draws in lots of tournaments. But it's true that he was a lot better halfway last year. I guess these courts suit him perfectly.

Greul changed the strategy after losing first set, attacking the 2nd serve return hitting it deep right at the Frenchie's feet forcing an error or a short ball which he immediately attacked and charged the net, worked like a charm every single time and Monfils seemed clueless and kept playing passively way behind the baselien and couldn't pass Greul at the net, and in the very few times he tried to play aggressively he missed really badly, really impressive stuff from Gruel and the belief and confidence were always there, serving it out emphatically :worship:

hope to see more performances like this from the German :yeah:

Monfils must be doing something right to be around 10 in the rankings.

His problem is the way he plays tennis rather than mental toughness. He is so far behind the baseline he needs binoculars to see the opponent.
