His left wrist is apparently broken.

Amazed this wasn't detected earlier.

Best of times, worst of times for Gulbis.

Wins his first ATP title, few weeks later, plays a guy with a broken wrist...and loses.

me too. He didn't do anything obvious in that match though where it looked like he could have broken it.

Is Almagro still playing with a broken wrist or did it not turn out to be broken. I'm sure i read on here that he had broken his wrist.

That's another thing we don't seem to have the specifics on. I know its tough for Doug and Robbie, they are stuck in the booth, but the info coming out seems so vague right now. Maybe Davydenko will do a proper press conference.

That is Troicki's career in a nutshell. He seemingly never does anything noteworthy yet is always around the top 35. Beats the guys he should and loses to the guys that are even slightly better. But this

Its no-ones fault, injuries happen, pain doesn't always occur straightaway. OK so Ernests happened to be his opponent when Kolya may or may not have broken his wrist during the match(we don't know yet). Kolya wasn't showing signs of great pain,if he was in pain he masked it very well. Or..even if he did break it during the match, sometimes it doesn't hurt so badly straightaway.

Its sad that Kolya will be out for a while now,I wish him well in his recovery,he's a great player.

L'Equipe is saying that he hurt his wrist in Amsterdam but the doctors apparently missed the fracture at first which explains his decision to play IW. He did another MRI which revealed the broken wrist and he's had a cast put already  didn't know MRIs revealed fractures though.

http://www.lequipe.fr/Tennis/breves2010/20100314_231558_davydenko-poignet-casse.html

I'm guessing Denko's exams aren't done by sleepless interns in the midst of 24 hours shifts but it's happened to me before that a doctor sent me home telling me I was fine, before getting a call 5 days later to tell me my right wrist was actually broken. It's not that uncommon

This is true, it all depends on the angle being caught at an MRI-examination. Tiny fractures are easy to be missed. Still you'd expect a top athlete getting a more thorough examination than 'bums 'R' us' (it's wrong, but that's the way it works, alas.) :o

Midnight Ninja

It could be a case of looking at it from the wrong angle? I don't know how possible that is considering MRI's should be taking 360 degree scans.

What I find more suprising is that he decided to play anyway. Diagnosted or not playing tennis with a broken wrist is unbelievably painful, he must have been on some pretty good drugs.

That's a great shame for the game right now because Davydenko has really been adding something to the top of the game lately. Obviously a shame for Davydenko as well, had a great chance to upset a few people in the next few months by disrupting the top guys.

As with a lot of other posters; I am generally bemused at how his wrist could possibly have been broken when he beat Gulbis but he must not be susceptible to pain. :o

Because with stress fractures for example, pain increases with activity, and decreases with rest. And it can be the same pain as if he had a sprain or tendonitis. The athletes deal with that kind of pain all the time. He did say that the swelling occurred after the match and also after the practice.
Some of you are talking as he had a compound fracture or something
