Very bad 3rd set by Mardy, who could actually pull an upset here and then reach qf easily.

Arkulari

Nole's body language in the second set was really negative and at the end he wasn't giving much of an effort, he won the third easily but it shouldn't have gone like this

That was one weird-ass match. A tank by Djoko in the second?

I like Mardy, but unfortunately this is him in a nutshell. Talented player but one of the all time mental midgets. After being up 1-0 and 0-30 on Djokovic's serve at the start of the third he played what was one of the worst stretches of points in the history of tennis. The game he played to be broken at 1 all was all time pathetic. You will almost never see anyone miss an easier volley than he missed to be broken, and this is including club players.

Agree. Some too bad points from my no.1 fave. :o
Mardy could be top 10 if he was clutch like Isner.

Djokovic is the specialist of playing badly and winning. Obviously plays the big points well.

Yeah, anyway good effort. Too many FH errors from Mardy which is not surprising but it looks like he is playing better overall than he was the last few months

yep, but when was the last time he faced a top player? Tsonga at the AO?

this is good enough against the Fish of the world, but won't cut the job against someone like Murray or Roger

quick changing time zone(9 hours),wind,15 degrees(celsius of course, nobody cares about farenhajt)...awful conditions for both.
from some great points to total crap, both fish 'n nole.
nole and 2nd set...as usual,when he loose,he doesn't play 'n wait next set.
fish-such a talent, such a waste of talent.tennis reqires brain.sadly fish lacks in this area(he should learn from querrey, isner, his boss roddick).

but jkay is happy,i have to be happy too.last bagel 16 month ago against davydenko in shanghai(masters)

no, you can only beat what is in front of you

what I mean is that his level isn't good right now, that he has not played top players lately and with this level it'll be hard for him to win

Nole is not the player he was at the AO 08, IW 08 and it's not nice to watch him like this

BTW Ivan: learn grammar first and try to insult later

I'm not even bashing Nole, just stating the facts about how his game is today

But what Djokovic managed in all these hard to watch matches are: he raised his level enough to win ugly. So, we can't tell what the result will be if he plays vs Federer, Murray, Nadal, Davydenko, etc.

that might be true, we have to wait and see, though his opponents are letting big opportunities pass them by, sometimes by their errors, sometimes by Nole's clutch play

Mardy just looks like a tired, cranky, beaten old man out there ready for the next phase of his career -- as a club pro somewhere in Florida.

About the only interesting thing from this match was when a fan told him to "shut up" while he was arguing with Lahyani.

“I definitely had a couple of tiring weeks behind me with Davis Cup and Dubai, so I was really skeptical if I'm going to be able to physically recover from all of that, including the jet lag and time zone change,” said Djokovic. “I was happy with the way I moved today. I had a lot of ups and downs. Overall, first and third set were quite okay, so hopefully I can get some good night's sleep and get ready for the next one.”

WTA = ATP. :cool:

And  You all need to chill. You should be congratulating him, it's always a sign of a great player when he is going through a rough patch and still winning most of his matches. Once he gets some confidence in his game again then hopefully he'll start to own everyone. Ajde Nole.

Prematch odds movements suggest Djoko isn't fully fit (perhaps jetlag as someone suggested). There's no way he goes off at 1.20ish if all is ok - after all, Fish only beat Chris Rochus courtesy of retirement in Delray, and Rochus is pretty much the worst form player in the top150 atm.

Not particularly shocking, no. Djoko sometimes tanks sets to conserve energy - e.g. Gasquet in Estoril, Davydenko in Shanghai. Always second sets too.

Not as bad as Fish's performance at Wimbledon against him.

Fish's forehand is way more inconsistent than his backhand (which He got best backhand... could be Top 5 best).\

I still don't know why Fish not go to improve his suck forehand....

If his forehand works consistent that would make him Top 10 in the world (easily).

and back 2003 Cincy Final.....Where he got his first chance to climb ATP master but he lost it to Roddick

After that.....Injury costs him a lot.

Actually, all this "still adjusting to the changes in my game" stuff is a mere publicity stunt: no better material to make ALL people talk than "Nole plays like crap, but wins matches and titles" scenario.

Haters: "Nole plays like crap, period."

Fans: "Nole wins matches and titles, period."

So let's just keep on debating, predicting, expecting, "seeing clearly" etc etc...

It is the other way round for me. In many cases, I developed a soft spot for players when things were not running smoothly.
