Quite common.

Federer has lost 3 times to Nadal yet won more points; Dubai 2006, Rome 2009 and AO 2009.

I remember NYCtennisfan coming up with the stats at one point, Roger lost a dozen matches like that, some, while winning a ridiculous amount of points more than his opponents. He does make up for it with his other results, Richard...not so much :tape:

Can imagine Greul's loopy topspin inside/out aimed at Gasquet's backhand here, would be boucning over head height, pushing him way deep.

6.

It was a bad omen for his career but after that loss, he had some dramatic wins; like most of players had been involved in dramatic wins and dramatic defeats but since Montreal 2007 it has been looking really bad, exposed actually only choking abilities.

Hmmm... I thought it was 9. Or maybe it felt like 9 while watching the match. :tape:

I guess someone had to fill in for PHM while his choking form dipped (couldn't build big enough leads to choke) and eventually was out injured?

i think federer actually leads the ATP in that department

Federer is at 17 or 18 matches lost even after winning more points than his opponent, by far the most of any active player and the most of any player since 1991 (the year the ATP has listed match stats). Ivanisevic and Krajicek, with their huge serves, come in second and third behind Federer. Sampras won very few matches while winning more points than his opponent because he would rarely win enough points on return in losing efforts to even up the total points stat.

Krajicek, by the way, is the only player that I know of that won more points than his opponent in a 3 set straight sets loss (against A. Agassi. 1993 Wimbledon).

do you know how many matches federer has won in spite of having won less points than his opponents?

As long as Gasquet can still hit that backhand he is more worthwhile than all the ball bashing clowns on tour these days.

Pull yourself together Gasquet.

Not much difference in points (between R1 and R2), but this might be a blessing in disguise for Gasquet...his 52-week ranking won't benefit from a result like this, meaning that he shouldn't make the cut for any of the European clay Masters events (and hopefully won't ask for a WC :o). Thus, if he plays enough optional events (scoring at least a win in each), he might actually benefit by being able to count such results instead.

But, at the moment, looks like the best he can hope for is a year-end top 50 finish. :o
