It's just strange because it's a home country tournament. He should've skipped Acapulco and played Barcelona, of course now the Catalan papers will start speculating about why he isn't there

No Murray, opposite to what has been said in many papers

He said in Dubai (at the first press conference, before the tournament began) that his schedule depends on how he will do in Miami. He wants to train a bit before the first clay tournament, so if he goes deep in Miami, he would skip Montecarlo; if he'll have an early fall in Miami, he'll be in MC.
I guess he won't be on MC entry-list either, and that he will then ask for WC there or here in Barcelona.

Considering his linking to the Casal-Sanchez Academy, I think that he could get a WC here even if he weren't a top-4 player :lol:

And yep, those players hoping for one would not be happy (especially if Verdasco, Murray, Wawrinka and other top-players not in the entry-list would ask for one later)

I'm not sure that Wawrinka would get it automatically, but Verdasco and Murray would take two ones for sure

Other strange thing I noted : Davydenko plans to play 6 weeks in a row before Roland-Garros  , considering he will probably play Monte-Carlo and is also committed to Estoril and Nice according to the news :cuckoo:

Well after Monte-Carlo it's only mandatory tournaments

he has to play 4 ATP500 tournaments in the year (including Monte-Carlo) and he's the only top-30 player apart from Federer (who's obviously a special case  ) who has not played one yet.

He will play Basel, probably Hamburg, I expected him to play Barcelona but as he will not play here and to achieve his 4 ones, he will have to play Tokyo/Beijing or Washington.

He can play Hamburg, one in Asia, Basle and count Davis Cup as his 4th ??

I think that is enough on clay to get ready for Roland Garros

yes I've seen that he plays 2 ATP250 tournaments during European clay season, but for a top30 player, I would rather expect him to play more ATP500 tournaments  ,

and especially Barcelona.

Now he will have to play Hamburg, Basel and Tokyo or Washington to fulfill his commitment.

Nalby will probably have a WC ?

from the tournament website:
http://www.barcelonaopenbancosabadell.com/index.asp?lang=eng

29/03/2010 - David Nalbandián targets a return to form in Barcelona on his way back to the top

David Nalbandián has named the Barcelona Open BancSabadell as one of his key goals for this season, as the former world #3 battles to return to the elite level of world tennis following a hip injury that left him on the sidelines for nine months. The Argentinean will return to the courts of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 thanks to a wild card invitation from the tournament, just a few weeks after becoming the hero of his country’s epic Davis Cup first round win over Sweden.

“I’m not coming back to be in the top 100; I want to get back to being ranked in the elite,” said the 28-year old, currently ranked at #161 on the ATP’s list. “By the time I reach Barcelona I hope to be playing well. I know that it will be a difficult tournament for me, because the entry list is very impressive and there are a lot of clay court specialists. But I will give it my all and I want to please the fans, especially because there are always a lot of Argentinean supporters.”

It was during the Barcelona event last year that Nalbandián suffered the acute inflammation of the right hip that prevented him from taking to the court for his quarterfinal match with Rafael Nadal. After that he played another match in Estoril before withdrawing from the Masters 1000 event in Rome in order to undergo surgery in Spain.

“This year the clay court season will be even more special. I’m looking forward to going to playing well in Europe, and to keep building. I have no pressure, I just want to find my game and keep on building my rhythm, confidence and ranking points,” commented Nalbandián following yesterday’s loss to Rafael Nadal in Miami, from where he will travel home before coming to Europe to participate in the Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo, where he has also received a wild card invitation. “In Indian Wells and Miami and I have seen that I am injury-free, and that I can relax and focus on improving my game. I want to compete, to feel good on the court again and to enjoy it. I’m doing well.”

This tournament always has had fair wild-cards in the past.

Besides there are at least 10 Spaniards than deserve this wild-card more than Krajinovic. I've nothing against the boy, I know he's talented but come on, he hasn't done anything remarkable on the ATP circuit yet and for sure he doesn't deserve that WC imo

As for Krajinovic, I can understand AndyMurrayfan as so many Spaniards are eager for this tournament, including some young ones like Carreno-Busta or Javier Marti, or still young like Riba, Ramos-Vinolas or Cervantes Huegun ...

and plenty of not young but good Spanish players (Granollers for instance)

This tournament is bigger than the Serbia Open and they can always give the young hopes a qualifying WC. I think it doesn't make any good for them to lose badly in the first round of the main draw

I understood that Filip got a WC in Miami because he was based there, but he doesn't have any relationship with Barcelona and I don't think the crowd from the city knows him.

I guess you are joking...

Cuevas didn't sign in on time for the tournament, and that's the reason why he's not in the main draw, so he has to play qualies.
