How many pull-ups can you do?

I can do 5 tops. I know it's lame but just a few months ago I wasn't able to do any!

My goal is to be able to do 12.

How about you?

no prob... it's also my goal to cheer ppl up with my never ending pull-ups stories :) you see, it's too embarrassing for me to discuss this topic in real life so i have to bring it to da internet with the hope that it won't be that embarrassing here.

hehe I get you. but why is that? I mean are you otherwise very unfit? Cause being able to do only 5 pull-ups is rather... poor. ;)

abraxas21

too much crap food, alcohol and cigs. Plus almost no excercise at all.

I'm aware I'm unfit and that's the reason I want to improve my physical shape... I think I have a very weak back. Just 4 months ago I wasn't even able to do one pull-up so I think I must be doing right lately. I'm going to the gym 3 times a week.

Keep it up then. :yeah: And for the love of all that's worthy, quit smoking...

I used to do 100 in a row back when I was hitting the gym regularly... :o no big deal though once trained...

I also used to do 30 (complete) chin-ups in a row, and that is imo more impressive than doing 100 pull-ups :o

About 1.

Edit: I was thinking about something different. Still only 1 though. :o

About 50-70 I guess. But I do 5 series of 30 per session (when I do train)

Whats your problem? I would just make a video to prove it to you. I think I could do even more  Unlike you, I am a sportsman.

When I was in relatively good shape, I could do 30 almost reaching the floor, I don't have too much weight in my body. Now I'm not in any kind of shape :o

Keep it up abraxas, and don't be ashamed to tell to other people, it's not something from other world and with work you can reach very good results with your body.

maybe there's a problem in the definitions. pull-ups (overhand grip) are considered harder than chin-ups (underhand grip) because with the latter you're using the strenght of your back and your biceps whereas with the former (pull-ups) you only use the strenght of your back.

that said, don't take this the wrong way but doing 100 complete pull-ups (or even chin-ups) sounds way too impressive for me to believe tbh!

Oh I messed it up completely I read push-ups and not pull-ups :silly: and I also messed up chin-ups with pull-ups :o so I used to do 30 pull-ups (I never trained the chin-ups) and 100 push-ups.

Heres a video of me doing 13 of what I consider to be good form chin ups.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kghKb-5aq8w

Some people only go down half way or 2/3 of the way, so it effects numbers. On my level in the video, I could probably do 22 half way down, or 18 3/4 of the way down.

Same thing with push ups, so it's tough to garner a standard for comparison.

Some can, but a very eliete club. I don't know exactly what the world record is but its something between about 170 and 400 conescutive.

World record for push ups I believe is over 10 000.

I call bullshit on a whole lot of posts in this thread.

If a big guy like Excalibur can do what he says he can then I'm a crippled midget from Germany.

tbf to the guy, I don't think he's a bullshitter, more like he misinterpreted the question.

fact is, pull ups are BITCH hard. any anyone not in regular training will struggle to do any, let alone many.

I only started weight training like 6 weeks ago but I could probably knock out a max of 2 right now. Probably piss weak cos I neglected myself but I reckon even when I do improve it'll be slow progress

No way I could do 70 pull ups :spit:
I never tried to do a single pull up. But probably no more than 20 :haha:

Don't worry about pullups...it would only mean you are a "barquilla"(cone shaped with strong biceps but thin and skinny lower body). I could do about 15 don't know now.

Pushups(could do like 20-30) i hate even more, the one thing i'm abnormaly super strong is legs(can easily do 3 sets of 50 with 1000pounds or more, not kidding).
