Who was the last player besides Sampras to retire after they had won a tournament. It doesn't matter the size of it, but I'm just cirous as to who was the last before him to bow out on a win.

I don't know if it had ever been done prior to that.

I don't remember any player of importance besides Pete retiring after winning a title. Although I've only been following tennis since 1986.
Doing the research on that would take a long time. I'm not doing it.
