I'm happy with either guy in the QF. I like Hrbaty better against either Kiefer or Henman, though. I say this without looking at their head to heads, mind you.

I just don't know how much Ollie has left in the tank after two really tough 5-setters and mentally one of his very biggest wins. I would love to see him pull it off though

Go Olli. :bounce:
I think Olivier can win because since the start of the US Open, he plays incredibly well. His mental is ok and probably better than never. He won against Moya so I really can win.
I hope that Olivier will not be too tired after his long matches.

Rochus is a fine tennis player, but I mean, if Dominik's ground game is on I can't picture Dom losing. Even if he has a shaky period where unforced errors are a bit present, best of five matches give players chances they wouldn't normally get to find their game. Plus there is the obvious fact that Dominik is fit as hell and is coming off a fairly quick three set win.

I'm looking forward to it.

I don't think Oliver has much of a chance either, but then I didn't think he had a chance against Moya. :)

I really hope Dominik will win, i mean he should win, but you never know with Dominik, he can be inconsistent and just go off the boil inexplicably sometimes. If he does Rochus is good enough to take advantage. But if Dominik is on, i cant see Rochus having much to hurt him with.

Well I'm hoping to God that Kiefer beats Henman (and he should), because Hrbaty does not have a good record vs Tim! Two losses in straight sets, albeit both in 2000. But Kiefer and Hrbaty played in the first hardcourt tournament of the season and Kiefer won in three sets, and Kiefer also won another time on carpet. So it'll be tough either way but i fancy Hrbatys chances against Kiefer more.

Olli should realize that this is a huge chance to make it to the quarters. Don't know however if there's any energy and courage left in the little man.
But normally: if you can beat Moya, you should be able to beat Hrbaty.

How tall is Olli?
about 165cm. Which is apparently, the same size as me. But he must talk himself up a bit, because I got a photo next to him and I'm taller ;)

I think Oli should be able to win. Just going by past results, and who they've already defeated in the draw.

EDIT: For a moment there, I forgot Hrbaty has won several tournaments this year. I was thinking of Sargis! But still, GO OLI! :worship:

I doubt very much that it's mental. He's barely moving and doesn't even go for the shots that he would have run down in his sleep otherwise. If you take away his biggest weapon, running down all the balls, he can only do so much. *sigh*

I've said this before. I don't think he's the fittest of guys. He needs to improve his conditioning. I noticed that in Umag as well.

Indeed. I feel so privilidged that I was able to watch him play twice in Umag. I watched all his practices. And his doubles matches with his bro are just the greatest. So much fun! I really love his spirit. This year in Umag, his second round match againt Vliegen was hands down the best match of the tournament. The crowd was extatic. Having all those small clay tournaments in Europe is great.

Realistically, I just can't get to many tournaments here. If I see two a year, I am happy. I think that this will get Oli's ranking up to a point where he will be able to play at IW. At least I hope so. I remember one year, we came around the corner of a practice court and there was Oli!! We got all excited, and my friend exclaimed, "It's Oli," and then got out his camera and started taking pictures. And Oli was just sort of looking at us out of the corner of his eye like he thought it was really funny that people would start taking his picture.

Way to fight Dominik, stuff like this is why he's my favorite player. It was a disgusting first two sets, but he stuck around and stopped the donations. Too bad for Ollie, but cramp is not an injury, its lack of conditioning, and i suppose its his fault that he isnt fit enough to last in many best of 5 matches. But it must be very tough to lose a match like this.

Hrbaty, you'll have to play better against Tim. I thought Tim would be the tougher opponent, but it seems like Kiefer was in better form, so Dominik has a chance against Tim if he just plays his game and doesnt get too flustered by what Tim tries to do.

interview with:

OLIVIER ROCHUS

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. You had called out a trainer. Could you talk about why you called out the trainer?

OLIVIER ROCHUS: It was cramping.

Q. Was it stomach cramping?

OLIVIER ROCHUS: Sorry?

Q. Was it cramping in your stomach.

OLIVIER ROCHUS: No, no, legs.

Q. How did that affect you? It was pretty downhill from that point on. You were getting your legs massaged. How much of an effect did that have on you?

OLIVIER ROCHUS: I couldn't really play. I was playing like at 20% of my game. I couldn't run. Dominik saw me, that I was in bad shape, that I was cramping. Just make me run. He was also playing better and better, very fast, on the line all the time. I couldn't really run. After one or two run, I was cramping pretty badly. So, yeah, almost couldn't play. But I tried till the end, and yeah.

Q. Is that something you suffer from a lot, cramping in your legs? Does that happen often?

OLIVIER ROCHUS: Yeah, it happens sometimes, yeah. In this tournament it never happened. But, I don't know, was pretty hard. Dominik has a tough game. He makes me run a lot. Yeah, was maybe a little bit too much for me today.

Q. Were you telling yourself, "Two more games," trying to get through it that way?

OLIVIER ROCHUS: Yeah, at 4-1 I was really feeling bad. But at 3-1 he made a few unforced errors. So, okay, beat two more games, you can do it. One or two mistake, try to play in one or two shot, and we never know. At 4-2, I had point for 5-2. I missed the volley there. I think the passing shot was out. I took the ball. I think that was the key of the match. I think at 5-2, it would have been possible. But now it's too late.

Q. Is there anything you can do to avoid these kind of problems?

OLIVIER ROCHUS: I don't know. I try my best. I'm practicing hard, working on my fitness. I don't know. It's hard when you play those players, they make you run. You play two hours, two hours and a half in the sun, so many rallies. I mean, with my game, I don't have so many free points with my serve, so I have to fight every point and run a lot. It can happen, you know. I'm not a machine, yeah.

DOMINIK HRBATY

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. Did you win the match or did he lose it?

DOMINIK HRBATY: I think I won it because, you know, part of the game is to get your opponent physically that he can't any more move or he's cramping. So I think that's also part of the game. Also maybe, I mean, you can always say you have to be a little bit lucky to win from two-sets-to-love down. But I was fighting all the time and he was running so well. He was playing amazing shots. Since the beginning, I couldn't believe that he's going to hold the rhythm of his play and running so well after two 5-set matches, what he did in past two games. I was always hoping to get him somewhere that physically he's going to be in the end of his power.

Q. In the end of a match like this, do you feel a little pity for him or do you block that out?

DOMINIK HRBATY: I mean, you can't think about that, I mean, to feel pity for the opponent. He is only the opponent, you have to fight him and you have to beat him, till the end don't give him any chance. Go for if there is a chance to go for 6-0. That's what I did. Maybe you can lose one game and he can always stand up and fight back. In tennis, there is no mercy and you have to fight for every ball.

Q. What did you say to each other at the end of the match?

DOMINIK HRBATY: I was telling him -- I mean, after the match I was telling him this I'm sorry that it end up like this, because he had already two 5-set matches. He told me good luck in the next game and say congratulation.

Q. What feeling is it to be in the quarters?

DOMINIK HRBATY: Yeah, I think it's great. I've already been three times in the quarters, and out of three times one time in the semis. It's always great feeling, and that means that you are probably playing well and you are probably on the top of your game.

Q. Although you won, played good, played solid, still the public was a little bit on his side. Did you expect that? For the Americans, the small one against the big one.

DOMINIK HRBATY: I don't know, it's strange that the public always take -- the public goes with him also. Maybe because he's small, I don't know. Maybe everybody think that this guy doesn't stand a chance. But he's a great player. He has a great shots. But, yeah, it's part of the game. I had my fans there, and I heard them. You know, I followed always with them. I mean, you can't say to the public, "Be on my side." You have to fight and that's it. You're concentrating on your game.

Q. He won the first two sets because he was much better player at the beginning and you didn't play at your usual level?

DOMINIK HRBATY: I think we played pretty high level since beginning of the game. But he just always put within more ball inside the lines, you know, inside the court than me. He was running really well. The shots I was making, too, made him run, he always played great defense back. But I was hoping all the time that I have a chance always against this guy. I beat him already once, so there is always chance to fight him. And even I believe in myself to play best-of-five because I feel physically strong. I always know that I have a chance if the match goes longer or to the fifth set.

Q. Has your form increased compared to the tennis you played in Cincinnati?

DOMINIK HRBATY: I feel much better now. I feel the ball much better than I felt in Cincinnati. Today I have a little trouble with my serve in some periods of the game. I didn't serve as well as in the past matches. But, yeah, I got through the round and I'm happy.

Q. How is your record against Tim Henman?

DOMINIK HRBATY: I think we played only once, in the finals in Brighton. I don't know. I remember only this match. Maybe we played some other time, but I don't remember the other one.

Q. Quite often two players who have been on the tour have played a lot.

DOMINIK HRBATY: Sometimes you can play with a guy five times during the year, sometimes you don't meet a guy for five years, and you meet him like every tournament, basically you're playing most of the year together. I can say that basically I practice with all the guys kind of like at least a couple times a year. I always change so then once you get to play him, then you know what to expect. Like, say, with Tim, we practice in Montreal -- Toronto this year. I still remember that practice. I know how he plays. It's good to change the practice partners sometimes, to play with all the guys that you know after a couple of years you meet him and you know what he's playing.

Q. You practiced with him?

DOMINIK HRBATY: Yeah.

Q. That was Montreal, you said?

DOMINIK HRBATY: No, Toronto. This year was Masters Series in Toronto, in Canada.

Q. Do you get on well off the court?

DOMINIK HRBATY: Yeah. I mean, I don't know him that well probably as Roger or the other guys because maybe he's older, you know. He's four years older than me. He was growing up different generation than me. But still I always respect him and we always say to each other hello. We talk, maybe small chat. Nothing special, nothing big. But he's a great player. I always -- I mean, even to watch his serve-and-volley game, I always like to watch because he's only one of a few players that doing that. I have nothing to lose next round. I can only get plus always. There is no minus for me.

Q. Has it surprised you from afar that he has had such a good year in Grand Slams this year? Normally players at 27 or 28 start going down. Tim has had a very good year.

DOMINIK HRBATY: He's a very solid player. He always had great results I think in the Grand Slams, not only the Wimbledon, but also the other Grand Slams. So, he's been for many years Top 10. They always said he's not -- the player not able to win a big tournament. But I think he's a great player. He has the ability to win the big tournament or the Grand Slam. Just these days it's all about the confidence in the last round. During the matches, whoever has the bigger confidence, the guy's going to win the match.
