Probably a hamstring injury. Too bad, Mischa looked a bit tired anyway.

GS indoor anyone?

Dutches Blue Collar might be delighted with this win.
High risk game, with efficient first serve reminds them Krajicek good times and the expansion of the dutch commerce through century XVI as both pirates and colonies invasors.

Crowd couldnt get a better cold hearted and efficient champion.

Youzhny's second retirement/walkover this year. I like the fact that Soderling is somewhat back in form. Makes the tour much more interesting.

another bad news for the Rafatards

You ignorant
Rafa is the true king, master and overlord of the atp. Players like Toad are mere minions and stand in awe of the talent and natural gifts possessed by the true GOAT Rafa. He like the rest of the tour is a molehill compared to the Nadal Mountain and accepts his god Rafa as an individual much greater than him. He well and truly realizes that the matches people win against Rafa are either matches in which Rafa is mortally injured or matches that the champion lets them win, all part of the divine scheme of things as devised by the GOAT and his dear uncle Toni.

Ugh, that sucks. Rest up and take care, Youz.

There were still a lot of entertaining points in this one. Totally expected to see Söderling nervous in the beginning, but he regrouped quickly and was very patient in the rallies. The last point of the first set was hilarious. Misha had two netrolls going his way earlier on in the set anyway, so there's not much to say about that.

The ceremony afterwards was pretty funny too. I'm thrilled for Robin to get the title, but I'm gutted for both guys that it had to involve a retirement. Misha did all he could this week and has nothing to be ashamed of.

Great win for Robin who again played great and kept mentally cool even though his serve was not on fire as the other days he kept on playing good in Mishas serve and would have won anyways in str8s as predicted.

So much for a clownish 500 event!!!! Walk-overs, retirements, poor performances and an attitude: I will just show-up because I have to!!!!! ATP seriously has to re-evaluate reducing the number of the ATP 500 tourneys and replace some of them with exos...... The only thing good was: Soderking is back, healthy and ready to compete for for the rest of the season......

Why did Youzhny have to retire?

02-14-2010, 02:46 PM
Because he is a moron :tape: Don't get me wrong, I love Misha but this is the second time this season when he wins a tight match and then retires. It'd be better if he tried to show some respect to the crowd.

Did you notice his speed and how fluid his movement was today? He chased down every drop shot; every angled winner Misha tried to hit he was able to get to and return most of them and neutralize the point until he gained control. This was truly an in-form Soda the past 3 matches.

Yes he really fought hard for every single point, and Misha couldn't hit through Robin who played again with great length and variation!! 1st set was great stuff and then it was just routine. Misha didn't have anything left in the tank after spending more time on court and playing 2 tb.s last night.

This win is a very good bounce back from Robin. He's winning an indoors title as he should, and defeating two very good opponents in a row to boot. This will surely give him even more confidence for the upcoming tournaments. As someone mentioned earlier, it also keeps things interesting as far as his matches with the top players in the future are concerned. I'm very happy to see that he hung in there in the first couple of rounds and then raised his level according to the quality of his opponent. Benny didn't know what hit him, Denko was lethargic but Robin was the boss in the match and against Youzhny he displayed brilliant patience and dare I say it defence skills. More than anything, though, this tournament victory further goes on to show that he is no fluke.

By doing what exactly? Tanking the previous match after consulting a crystal ball, which told him he'd be unable to finish the next match or by risking to aggravate the injury?

i agree with the poster who said soderling in form adds some spice to the tour. i think it is because he is an unknown quantity most of the time.

anyway well done soderling, keep up the good form.

Youzhny didn't really seem that injured to me  I am sure he must have been, or he would not have retired, but at the same time I can't help but think that he would have continued playing if he hadn't been down a set and a break.

Okay Florence Nightingale ...

Just because a player doesn't grimace in pain after every point and roll around the court in tears, doesn't mean they're not injured. Youzhny's a pretty tough customer and he had some rough matches this week. He also seemed sincerely apologetic to the crowd during the post-match interview that he couldn't finish.

Well done Robin! ... great week and I'm looking forward to some more POWER TENNIS in Dubai, Indian, and Miami -- esp. against the other heavyweight - JMDP :boxing: :drink:

Good for Soderking to win this title early in 2010, despite the anti-climatic ending. :yeah:
It's just too bad he wasn't in this form at AO... Oh well. Please Robin, don't play too much now and get injured again.

what's the deal with all these clownish plates tournaments give as trophies nowadays?

youzhny's looks like a freaking bawl to put fruits and the one soda holds ain't much better than that either.

also, why do both players look like perverts in the last pic?
