Rajeev Ram's and Sampras' service motion: Any other stroke similarities in tennis?

I've seen this guy play properly for the first time today (Finland's tennis coverage is probably on par with Ethiopia's) and LOL I finally realize what the Rampras nickname stands for . The guy has an identical serve to Pete Sampras', the motion and preparation that is. Not a bad role model for a serve, I just think it's uncanny that such a difficult shot as the serve can look so similar.

It got me thinking, do you guys know of any other cases where players might have very similar looking strokes?

Gimeno`s traver forehand and backhand = Charly Moya.

The similarities are striking indeed.
I don't see other cases as each player develops idiosyncracies ...

I've always thought that Cilic and Karlovic have very similar forehands, aesthetically speaking. The preparation, takeback and execution similarities always gets me.

Well that's a bit the same, actually I've heard that Tsonga and Monfils copied Roddick's motion as juniors together. Monfils is more like Roddick's nowadays though. But still it's a kinda lanky, lazy version of Rod's serve.

Monfils copying Roddick's serve.

Footwork and trophy pose are different. I'm not sure he copied him because I saw a Monfils video when he was a kid and he had the same motion.

Roddick's not a bad example to try to mould your serve around. I don't blame them.

It still looks similar to me. Especially just after the ball bouncing and before the ball toss - his behind (like Roddick's) really sticks out. :p

I truly hope someone really has copied Karlovic's groundstrokes. They are marvelous

Ha, just saw a clip of him on youtube since I never saw him play, man that's amazing, it's almost a perfect replica. Even the backhand had a very similar follow through to Sampras. I'd watch him just to remind me of genius in motion. :)

I know Mecir coached him at one point, however did Mecir coach him when he was younger? Then it would make sense that their games would be alike.

I thought exactly the same thing when I watched him for the first time the other day against Kohli. I went WTF :rolls: It's not only his serve though, his whole game is modelled after Sampras. His forehand, so flat and whipping, isn't found these days.

And I'll take it one further -- even his stutter step as he approaches net after serve is ersatz Sampras! Pete should sue for copyright infringement!

 I duly hope this is a case of comparing apples & oranges. In terms of execution it's pretty obvious that Zeballos doesn't come close to Gaudio.

Some serve parallels ... Henri Kontinen and Leo Mayer remind me of each other, just like Gabashvili and ToJo have fairly similar service motions and preparations.

Kunitsyn's backhand looks almost exactly alike to Davydenko's. I think the forehand is pretty similar too, but the backhand especially.

What do you think? Service motions are i think very interresting, because every player could be horrible with some other service motions, other swing, bad style of toss or other aspects. So which guys have most similar - almost identical service motions?

I definitely see Goran-Ljubo serve comparisons, was thinking about it at RG - the similarity in motions is obvious surely?
