Very convincing! Great win for Marsel. Top 100 should be reached this year.

Maybe the Turkish community in the Netherlands can give Marsel the feeling of a homematch. Allthough I'm not sure if they are interested in tennis

i take your point and it's well made.

I was expecting some people in qualies, but there weren't any. So different from when Jean-Julien Rojer played a couple of years back and there were loads of people from the Antilles.

Good start to the year for GGL.

Congrats to Marsel, hope he can break the top 100 this year. Saw his matches against Grosjean and Gonzo at the open last month and he seems like a promising player.

Maybe they might turn up now. He had plenty of support when he played in Melbourne.

Nice for him to be doing well, but he's really got nothing at this level other than the ability to keep the ball in court which beats a half-arsed GGL effort

This Ilhan can be a big threat in the future

I really don't think you're right. Marsel has been progressing very rapidly and has been playing extremely well. Whether he will be able to beat Top 50 players on a regular basis, probably not, but he deserves all the credit :yeah:

He needs to improve his serve at the very least. Little bit of gym work to add some muscle would help a lot.

His main problem is that he doesn't have any shots to hurt good players. His groundstrokes are too loopy and the serve is not winning him enough free points. His return game is not that hot either.

Based on his game, if he can break the top 100 that'll be a great achievement for him. And I really hope that he does :)

He's solid, and a fighter, credit to him.

But he's reached a peak ranking, near enough, he has nothing.
