No need for Marin to play any more 250s now this season.

Good effort from Berrer, and a clutch finish to wrap it up from Marin winning four points in a row facing two breakpoints.

I didn't expect such a close encounter, I've never seen Berrer playing so well :yeah: Cilic had to work really hard from the baseline, good way to finish this weak tournament.

Goran should play a lot of tie-breaks with Cilic on practise session to help him winning matches like today's 6-4 7-6(9).

Cilic already has 2 of the big 4 tourneys in the bag once again. :worship:

I wonder if he'll have what it takes to win Delray Beach and Newport to complete the Grand Slam.

Berrer in top 50, wouldn´t be so bad at all, he has a good tennis.
But dominating challengers makes him cooler.

Not true matey...he can count one more towards his ranking as long as he plays 4 '500' events and that extra '250' result is better than one such '500' result.

Obviously we'd expect Cilic to step it up in '500' events this year, but if he can win another '250' event then there is a good chance that it would be of benefit to him.

Obviously congratulations to Cilic for another title, and a superb start to the year. But also huge credit should go to Berrer...another of the older players enjoying his best run of results in the twilight of his career. Would be nice if he could sustain this level, although it would be tough for him if he commits to the European clay court season. :o

That's not true for last year's results, is it? I see that Marin played 4 "500" events last year (Beijing, Basel, Dubai and Davis Cup), and he has one extra "250" result that's better (Vienna), but that result is not counted.

Wow, I watched Berrer for the first time and he got a new fan today! :)
What an effort from him, against Cilic and his home crowd. Played his best tennis and mixed it up, even chip and charged on Cilic's 2nd serve. :worship:

He sure isn't the most talented and stylish guy out there, but he has a lot od heart, a fighter, a thinker, seems to be a great guy and that's what I like. :) I hope he cracks top 50 at least.
Hillarious speech: "I would like to thank all the sponzors, ballboys, etc...and girls at the hotel." :spit:

And of course, congrats to Cilic, he did what he had to do.

Cilic's start of the year has been amazing: 15-1 W-L, 1,220 points, two titles and #2 in the (unofficial) race.

It's easy to see him moving into the top 8 over the next few months. Two of his four "500" results are 90 points (QF) while his first four "1000" results of the calendar year are 45/45/90/45 points (R32/R32/R16/R32). He should be able to improve on most of those.

It is a new rule for 2010. :)

I have posted this in the 'Race' thread (post #3 or 4?) so read it!! :p

Definitely would be worth his while winning another '250' event, as he'd need to reach the final of 4 '500' events to prevent it from being worthwhile. Looking at the Davis Cup draw, it is unlikely he will earn significant points this year (probably needs only one singles win against Ecuador), unless Croatia springs an upset over Serbia.

Never in doubt although the final seems more difficult than expected. It will be interesting to see how he does at the MS series level.

I stand corrected, but darn it, these rules... :cuckoo:

Lately Cilic is still having his red hot moments in which vcery few players can have a chance of staying with him but a big change is how solid he is when not playing out of his skin. Rather than peaks and troughs he seems to have found a combination of peaks mixed with solid, more passive moments. Recognising how to apply ones game in an effective way can be as important as having the game and Cilic seems be improving very rapidly in that department for some time now.

Impressive stuff.
