I'm not that in the rules, but I wonder, why Petzscher doesn't receive a SE spot in Rotterdam. Can somebody explain it?

ATP rulebook:

b) A Qualified event for special exempt to an ATP ATP World Tour 500 tournament
is the singles event of another ATP World Tour 500 or ATP World Tour Masters
1000 tournament.

Ah okay, sounds clear to me.

Thanks.

But 500 point tournaments are allowed to attain SEs to Master 1000s?

no. the rule says that your get an SE if you are still playing in a 500 or 1000 the previous week

Bit of a shame.

Then again, chances are he'd bomb out first round anyway, like he did in Basel after winning Vienna 2008. That's just his nature :-)

After Vienna 2008, he couldn't take the deserved SE for Paris Bercy, because he had committed to the Tashkent challenger before. Basel was 2 weeks after Vienna and he got a WC there.

San Jose had SE's for next week, but I guess this 250 event wasn't attractive enough.
