Federer was awesome in the 2nd set. Murray really only has himself to blame, though. Missed too many chances. Should have been up a break in the first and blew countless chances in the 3rd.

Maybe next time Federer will play the way he did against Del Potro.

Murray was too passive yet again. he's too talented to play like that.

kind of boring for a final, until the tiebreak.

but i like very much that Federer has been playing more aggressively in the last couple of years than he did in '07 and '08.

Best performance in a slam final probably by Fed. Murray played really well, any other player would have collapsed in front of all these winners from every part of the court, he would have probably deserved to take that third set.

Two grand slam finals. Straight set victories both times around.

His chances are good, but winning RG will still be difficult, Del Potro is becoming a monster at Slams, Djokovic is always a threat and if Rafa plays well no one has a chance. The same can be said about the first to in the US Open.

Once again we see that Murray has the game but not the heart nor belief. Sad day for tennis. Another touted warrior comes up Lame in the big moment. Learn Andy dammit.

His game has improved since two years ago slightly but his mindset is the same. Until that changes hes not going to win one of these. Winning slams with a reactive mindset is very, very difficult and only those with the hugest of hearts have been able to pull it off.

Bad day for tennis.

Well played Roger, especially from the second half of the first set throughout the second set.

Andy really probably should have had that third set, he had a bunch of chances, a couple of them very makeable, didn't take them, paid the price.

I don't think Andy played badly but he didn't manage to really hurt Federer for a couple of hours out there.

Great fight from Federer, his backhand was decent, he was aggressive when it was needed and easy broke Murray's confidence. Just without new outfit with "16", please.

Murray showed once again the mentally problems he has when it's about winning GS titles. Losing two GS finales from Fed and, at the same, beating him easy at ATP Masters, must hurt. Missing so many opportunities in the third set was pathetic to watch.

Now, congratulations to Novak for becoming no.2, though I would rather love to see him in a good form and being no.3 than to be no.2 for a short time with the bad game.

Murray didn't play too badly, that being said, I think he played his best tennis in the QF, something he needs to rectify.

Federer was very impressive in set two. You have to wonder whether this guy can reach 20 slams, seems plausible to me.

Federer was awesome in the 2nd set. Murray really only has himself to blame, though. Missed too many chances. Should have been up a break in the first and blew countless chances in the 3rd.

Maybe next time Federer will play the way he did against Del Potro.

Fed's level of play in the USO final had a lot to do with the way Del Potro played. And to be fair, Fed played the four sets pretty well, especially the ones he won, imploded in the fifth though.

Hmm, Murray crying as well. New AO tradition? Bring on the Muzzacry photos.

You really thought it was a high quality match?

OMG Murray is crying yes!!

it was a good match. not a top-tenner. But you make it seem like a practice session. I just think some respect should be shown. It takes two players to play their best for a great match, we had only one today, but the other was just a little sub-par.
There was not much glossy tennis, but there was a lot of mind-games and chess-play (so to say).
At this level, when everyone in the top 5 is capable of beating the other with their best game, it's your game plan that can provide the edge. Fed did that today. Murray was not ready (not yet). And this is what made the match good.

Well, Murray can look in the mirror after this one. He had his chances, but you just have to take the match, not wait for Federer to give it to you. If you want to push, the push your shots long and deep to Federer's backhand. If you decide to put pressure, then put pressure good and follow some shots to the net. The worst is to hit short shots to the middle and wait for Federer to take control. Right man won. Federer was not afraid and had the balls to play at big points.

Poor Andy, he truly seemed like he was on the verge of crying in the trophy speech. I was surprised he held the tears... His voice sounded so broken.

From what I gather, Murray tried to play a bit like Nadal in the first 2 sets. Push deep and high shots to Fed's backhand but I didn't work. Federer's forehand and backhand were clicking today. In the third set he started to play more aggresively and he had his chances. In fact, he probably should have won that set in the tiebreak when he missed that easy backhand in the middle of the court. But what's done is done.

I don't like Andy's stlye very much but he'll learn from this. He'll keep working and I'm sure he'll win a GS in the future.

Then in the tiebreake Murray lead from start untill 7-6. Federer had put just 2 serve out his last 8. At 7-7 I was sure he was gonna hit an ace, and he did. I love you Roger !

One thing i find worrying about murray was his conditioning. a lot has been written about how fit he is and how hard he trains (which i have seen footage of) but then he was panting so hard towards the end of the third set. he looked like he was about to cramp and had some physical problems.

he had the easiest path to the final, playing minimal hours and only dropped one set but how can he looked so out of it physically after 2.5 sets? what if the match has to go on for another 2 sets? he never looked like he could be pulling it thru..

also i dont think he choked away the third set. he did serve for it, including in the tie break, but when his natural game is a defensive one and he was asked to play aggressive under immense pressure, with very little margin, thats what will happen. going for a little too much when usually u dont even have to go for it and it will end up as an error.

Just too good from Federer, he is the undisputed GOAT. Unbelieveable. :D

Murray is quite unlucky because he would have beaten any other player today.

I've always disliked Murray's game, and his personality on the court (but not off the court, he's a lot different in interviews, very laid back.) And I kind of hoped that he'd never win a slam, even though he's British. I just couldn't accept him as the next British guy to cheer for, after Henman, since his game and on-court demeanor is like the anti-Henman.

But after seeing how upset he was at not being able to win for the British fans, I got quite upset too. I might change my mind by the time the French Open rolls :p but right now I hope that he does win at least one Grand Slam title. I thought that he wasn't affected by the pressure of British hope as much as tennis pundits have suggested, and that he just sort of plays for himself. But his speech today was a little glimpse into just how much pressure he is under, and I don't want to see another guy flounder under the weight of the nation. Honestly didn't think I'd ever feel sorry for Murray.

Obviously he has to stop reverting to pushing at important moments though, if he ever wants to win on the biggest stage. Federer was too good today even if it had gone to four sets, but in that tiebreak, Murray refused to go for anything when he was leading. He kept waiting for Federer to make the error, and he made a few, but never two in a row.

Well done to Fed. He was awesome in first 2 sets. He is undisputable GOAT.

Murray raised it in the 3rd but didnt take his chances, and dare I say it choked on the set point where he dumped easy FH into the net, even the volley on 2nd set point was makeable 80% of the time.

I have been a fan of Murray for about 5years now, and I have never ever seen that much emotion from the guy during that speech. It just goes to show that under that cool, calm demeaner he really does feel the pressure, and it means the world to him!! I don't think he can forgive himself for not playing his best today but I think he should just let it go for now. Federer is an exceptional player - Too good.

But, Andy is a great player too, and he has to believe he can win a GS. He has a great chance everywhere even at RG, chin up Murray and congratulations on a fantastic week. Im proud of you. :D

everyone keeps talking about how murray "choked" but not about how mentally tough federer was in the third set. Even after big misses, federer just kept calm and kept playing. I thought federer returned beautifully today. Even when murray's serve was going in, federer was there.

funny, how everyone thought federer's bh would break down. actually federer broke down murray's fh.

Murray missed a lot of backhands too on key points and even on Championship Points. Roger served out there to the backhand pretty often and came into net on the Murray backhand. The problem with Murray's backhand is how flat he hits it most of the time. That can look spectacular and all that but can also mean that it is high-risk and Federer knows that. He knows how to break down an opponent's strength. Breaking down someone's strength is one of the toughest yet effective things to do in tennis.

Andy Murray-welcome to Andy Roddick's world! I felt badly for Andy Murray even though I'm not really one of his fans, particularly. I would have liked to see him do a bit better like take it to 5 sets even in losing.

What's the deal with the bulletin board? I missed all that. I came in late--thinking it would be a long, 5 set match.

Congrats to Roger.. What more is there to say? Dayum...

One thing we can say for sure now is that Murray does feel the pressure. It came to a head in his speech.

There's far too much hype and expectation when he reaches a major final. Despite what Billie Jean said, that type of pressure is not a privilege. It's a major burden.

every player feels the pressure in the finals. i dont think his speech had anything to do with that besides the fact he lost another final.

Murray tried the tactic of hitting to Federer's backhand, which is the strategy everyone talks about Nadal using and as the "weakness" of Fed. Thing is, that only works for Nadal because of the massive topspin he gets, being a lefty, and knowing when to pull the trigger towards the forehand side. Once that plan failed Murray had nothing. Also Fed just played the big points better. A bunch of 30-30 points on Fed's serve he played a good aggressive high percentage rally.

Surprisingly poor returning from Murray. Not sure what that was about. Obviously poor serving, coupled with good returns from Roger meant Murray had no chance.

With the difference really being that Fed stole Rafa's limelight when the moment should have been all about Rafa. Andy was obviously emotional and still managed to give Fed the credit he deserved for winning.

bitter clown. grasping at straws...so its who cries better now?

lol.

murray will have many chances to do well. it just shows its hard to keep emotions in check when you lose like that - esp with the crowd cheering you and wanting u to win.

Roger Federer, YOU. F*CKING. ANIMAL!!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

What a performance, what a champ. If anything, it looks like since #15, birth of daughters, etc., he comes across as a lot more relaxed. All the monkeys off his back now, knowing anything else he'll pick up from here is just even more cherries on the cake - a pretty frightening thought for any future opponent!

Andy! You deserve some   :hug:s! (I have *no defence whatsover* against men who have the guts to show their true emotions and are able to cry when they feel like it ;)). Just couldn't bring his best today, but like Roger said himself, "too good a player to not win a GS". :yeah:
What a disappointment it must have been, with all that pressure from the media pundits...

Whenever Muzza reaches a GS final in the (near) future and Fedal aren't there, I'll be rooting for him. Time to pick up that first GS title, Muzza Wuzza, you bloddy deserve it! :)

You tell him what he needs to do. I'm sure Andy Murray is reading the comments of this thread in this very minute.

Right now Andy does not need to be speeking to anyone. He needs to go into a very dark quiet room and sit by himself. Best to take it all in and think for a while before moving on. Running away from this does not fix anything in the long run ands he will never pull out of this.

Murray could not bring his best tonight , a shame really , now we will be subjected to more of " I am the greatest " from the #1 was so hoping Murray might knock him off his pedestal but it was not to be . Murrays time will come, when Fed retires.

Murray faking various injuries and whining the whole match. Felt a little bad when he almost cried though, so not sure if my dislike of his game and his attitude overcomes my pity for him and his country.

That forehand at 6*-5 tiebreak is just unforgivable
A fourth set would be fun

I'm sorry he cries, but this actually makes me appreciate him more

pretty good. 1st plan should have been trying this strategy. If that did not work the only way Andy could have won this was by taking it too Roger. He lacked the heart and belief to do this.

Murray played a decent game and definitely was the second best player.
-
Fed played the best I've seen him since 2008 UO.
Serve was good, BH was pretty solid. Good movement and few unexpected errors.
Pretty much like the old Fed.
I expected to see some let down from Fed at some point but nothing to complain about.

Too bad for Murray, he has played the best GS in his career, just came at the wrong time.
