At least the final will have it's moments... i guess

USO 2009 were pretty boring save for Federer's between the legs shot.

Wimbledon 2008 semis were dull. Gasquet was wiped out and Djokovic retired.

ppl are getting too picky for my liking

not every f'en match can be a 5 set epic

the tennis seen was good enough for me

6-0 6-1 semis in womans GS's... that i can understand, and when was the last woman's final that had a 3 setter?

Yeah, the SF were really boring. Unlike 2008 and 2009.

Besides, yeah this semi-final was dull but the Murray-Cilic one wasn't bad - yeah it was not epic but it had its moments.

It does go to show what happens when two players make it through to the semis very easily and the other two have a lot of struggles along the way - no gas left in the tank for the semis.

Both were reasonable matches. Plenty of good tennis and shotmaking.

Nothing on last years AO.

watching Fedgod in full flight is more value than a 5 setter anyway IMO

fed vs tsonga was a little boring but only because jo wil had nothing left in the tank, he fought to get the semis federer barely lifted a finger, same as cilic v murray, the match was pretty good for the first few sets actually but marin got worn out towards the end and couldn't play as well, both have nothing on the verdasco v nadal match of last year though that was epic:yeah:

I already made a thread how boring this years AO has been. Its just been a lackluster tournament.

I wouldn't say it's ben boring, but there's been no real shocks tbh. Tsonga's run was decent but he didn't beat any real star aside from Djokovic.

Murray-Cilic was far from boring. The first 2 sets you had no idea which way the match would go and then Murray played a few amazing shots.

Wimbledon 2008 semis were dull. Gasquet was wiped out and Djokovic retired.

That was 2007. 2008's weren't much better though - Safin had nothing for Federer and Schuettler barely challenged Nadal.

Overall this AO was very disappointing. Many matches that had everything to be awesome were pretty bad, and I hope this doesn't happen in the Final.

you're right, both years were dull dull dull, far duller than this year's AO semis.

Agreed with some posters in that this has been quite a dull AO. In fact, the ratings for the AO over here in Aus have dropped quite a lot and this has been causing some problems. Channel 7 was cutting off some of the 4th round/quarters matches to show news and soaps so important parts of the AO have not even been televised in native country. This did not happen in previous years. Hope final is a classic to make up somewhat.

This was one of the most open set of semis in a while yet. No Djokovic, no Nadal, no Del Potro and three people who had never won a slam. In the end, the quality of one semi was good, the other one was like someone playing against a brick wall (one that does some reactive tennis). But leading up to it, didn't seem too bad.

Is it AO which is boring or Federer ???

^ Replace Federer with someone else (who?).... say Davydenko. And you have: Murray, Davydenko, Tsonga and Cilic. Yeah, people will jump right out of their skins in excitement.

If u want complete blowouts in semis then how about Australian Open 2007:Federer-Roddick 6-4 6-0 6-2 and Gonzalez-Haas:6-1 6-3 6-1

Last year was an epic year for the Grand Slams in general - people might as well get used to the disappointment, it would be very tough for 2010 to top what happened in 2009.

The last time there was a 5 set final at the AO was in 1988. It is very rare at the AO.

before last year that is, but yes.

Last year's US Open final was the first 5 setter since 1999 too.

Last five setter at the French was 2004 so that's the one that's gone longest without one at the moment. Wimbledon has had an lot of them in the last couple of years.

That implies that Murray and Federer are two best of the tournament, and deserve finalists

Its been whats expected. I figured Nadal wouldnt be able to defend his AO title with his physical problems these days. Nadal is pretty much through IMO of winning any big hardcourt tournaments. He should be lucky he grabbed that AO last year. Djoker mentally and physically failed again and has been a reoccuring theme these past 2 years. Murray is finally stepping up but we will see if he has finally taken that next step to being a legimitate champion. Fed got his creampuff draw with the nutjobs Tsonga and Davydenko and WheelChair Lleyton and has been sailing through as expected. Del Potro another one who has been injury plagued since the USO

Really nothing surprising in this slam. Murray and Fed should have been expected in the finals.

Nadal has never defended a title off clay. Actually he usually loses in the QF when he is defending a HC title. Nole has always had stamina and breathing issues and Del Potro is very injury prone.

Yeah, this tournament has lacked those "epic" matches. I'm reasonably confident of the final being a good one, though.
