Fed's past his peak but at his best, is Murray better? All I know is that watching the Cilic match Murray reminded me a hell of lot of a certain Spaniard.
Better defender: Murray or Fed?turkjey5 01-29-2010, 05:26 AM Fed's past his peak but at his best, is Murray better? All I know is that watching the Cilic match Murray reminded me a hell of lot of a certain Spaniard. Arkulari 01-29-2010, 05:30 AM Roger's defense is hugely underrated, he can grit and rough up a lot of matches he should have lost BUT Murray is by far the better defender because that's his default style of play, his ROS is pretty good and since he has worked so hard on his fitness, he can now chase balls for hours ;) Kolya 01-29-2010, 05:44 AM Federer's defence against Davydenko has always been pretty good. Underrented indeed :p coonster14 01-29-2010, 05:45 AM murray is the better defender, as roger is older, he has lost that edge in speed, but roger still is one of the best movers out there. vn01 01-29-2010, 05:58 AM Murray is the best defender in the tour,I think Mechlan 01-29-2010, 05:58 AM Right now Murray is better, but at his peak, Federer was a superior defender. They both have a similar style in terms of anticipating the next shot and moving effortlessly. FlameOn 01-29-2010, 06:02 AM Nole. Gets to more balls because of that sliding stretch he does. Very fast in general too. ;) But out of those two, you'd have to say Murray. :) Arkulari 01-29-2010, 06:04 AM Right now Murray is better, but at his peak, Federer was a superior defender. They both have a similar style in terms of anticipating the next shot and moving effortlessly. this is also a factor, Roger isn't as fast as he used to be when he was Murray's age, but even then he was so good, he usually won by attacking alone and didn't need to defend as much ;) Macbrother 01-29-2010, 06:15 AM If you just mean who can get more balls back, I would give a slight, slight edge to Murray, even with Federer at his prime. But if you include in defense also what you can do with the ball once you get there, then it's Fed, no question, granted Murray is not a slouch there either. Topspin Forehand 01-29-2010, 06:19 AM Fed's best defense is his offense against Davydenko. Murray is by far the better defender. Nadal is also a great defender but he puts himself in too big of a hole to defend sometimes and his forehand grip isn't great for that either on a fast court or a huge hitter on a medium court. Forehander 01-29-2010, 06:21 AM Murray. Mechlan 01-29-2010, 06:22 AM this is also a factor, Roger isn't as fast as he used to be when he was Murray's age, but even then he was so good, he usually won by attacking alone and didn't need to defend as much ;) Yep, Roger definitely relied less on his defense than Murray, but it was still top notch. And especially in terms of going from defense to offense, he was clearly the best, which is no longer the case. Goldenoldie 01-29-2010, 06:47 AM Murray's defence is better because he gets more practice at it. Federer doesn't need to defend so much. latso 01-29-2010, 07:02 AM Murray's defence is better because he gets more practice at it. Federer doesn't need to defend so much. agree. yuiwer 01-29-2010, 09:33 AM Rog. player2k0 01-29-2010, 09:36 AM federer. by a mile. Commander Data 01-29-2010, 09:38 AM Murray. Fed is the better attacker, tough. McAlistar 01-29-2010, 09:39 AM Obviously Murray :o saniapower 01-29-2010, 09:39 AM Fed dodo 01-29-2010, 09:45 AM Murray is a better RETRIEVER. Fed just has a different way of going about it and he is excellent at executing it. saniapower 01-29-2010, 09:48 AM federer brithater 01-29-2010, 12:35 PM Murray is a better RETRIEVER. Fed just has a different way of going about it and he is excellent at executing it. excellent +1. Federer defends with aggression (kinda crazy). Best of all time in that reguard. Murray is more of a scrapper and defends with deffence. Its tough to get Federer on retriever mode because of his ability to take the ball early. He just wont let himself get pushed back. Andy loves it back there. | |
