In this thread we will review grand slam results over the past few seasons for other top ATP players to see whether Rafael Nadals claim as the number 2 and also number 1 player in the world at one time or another were justified in terms of tangible results. Also whether players bowed out in straights or in 4-5 sets adds to their score, if they lost more respectably.

First we will list Nadals credentials;

2007;

AO-Quarter final, blasted off court by Fernando Gonazlez.

FO-Win, defeats Federer in a close 4 set final.

Wimbledon-Final, blasted off court by Roger Federer.

US Open, 4th round, blasted off the court by David Fererr, lucky to get a set.

2008;

AO-Semi finals, blasted off the court by Tsonga in straight sets, unable to even get a break point till third set.

FO-Wins a close final over Roger Federer in straight sets.

Wimbledon-Wins the best match of all time in 5 sets. Lucky it got dark though or Federer probably would have won.

US Open-Semi finals, blasted off the court by Andrew Murray.

2009;

AO-Wins a final against Federer in 5 sets that Federer probably should have won. His 2nd slam outside paris.

Fo-4th round, blasted off the court by Robin Soderking. Lucky to win a set really.

Wimbledon- walked all over, didn't play a match.

US Open- Semis, blasted off the court ALA Tsonga in 08 AO in straights.

2010;

Quarter Finals of AO, blasted off the court by Andrew Murray and retired to avoid being bageled.

In agregate scores, the withdrawl at Wimbledon costs Nadal points in comparisons.

Roger Federer has had much greater sucess, reaching all the finals in 2007 and 2009, and 3 finals in 2008. End of story.

Shandi Dickrod had poor 2007/2008, but in 2009 reached semis of AO, 4th round of French (same as Dafidal), final of Wimbledon taking it to 5 sets, and 3rd round of US Open. His 2009 beats Nadals 2009, but his 2008 and 2007 make him slightly less better off.

Fernando Gonzalez reached the final of 2007 AO, first round of French, 3rd round of Wimbledon but almost won a close 5 setter against Wanko Tipsarabitch, respectible loss. Defended match points. Lost first round of US Open 2007. He reached the semis of RG in 2009. Won olympic silver in 2008. Reached quarters of US open in 2009.

Fernando Verdasco reached the semis of 2009 AO, 4th round of French (same as Nadal), 4th round of Wimbledon and Quarter finals of US open making his 2009 a bit better than Nadals. Reached 4th round of 2009 AO losing a match in 5 he should have won against SavyWanko.

No vacuum Croaker Bitch won 2008 AO, reached semis of FO, second round of Wimbledon and semis of US Open. 2009 he reached Quarters of AO, 3rd round of FO, semis of US open. His seasons were not as good as Nadals unfortunately.

Sandrew Mugcray had a shocking 2008, but in 2009 he reached 4th round of AO, Quarter finals of French (better than Dafidal), Won Queens, Semi Finals of Wimbledon losing a 5 setter, and 4th round of US open losing a close match to Marry On Silly Dick. Reached finals of 2010 Australian Open at least. Clearly better the last year and a half than what Nafael Capsical has been.

Yan Martini Del Weed Smoke reached the quarter finals of 2008 US Open, 4th round of 2009 AO, Semis of FO, 2nd round of Wimbledon and Won the United States Open of 2009, then reached the quarter final of 2010 AO where he was beaten in 5 sets by Marry On Silly Dick. Clearly a better year and a half than Dafidal.

Any other players who can challenge Nadals 2009/2007 seasons? Nadal had the better 2008 of almost anyone but I think Federers 3 finals are equal to Nadals 2 wins, and both won OLY GLOD in 2008 so they are even.

I like how all of Nadal's wins were either close, he shouldn't have won or he was lucky to get a set. How in the world can you consider the 08 French Open final close? :confused:

Well Federer had 3-3 break point..but it was a strategic tank anyway even though he would have lost most probably..but it frontfired on him when he realised he had Mono nuclear osis and it wasn't going away for Wimbleton.
