For the people surprised to see Santoro on the entry list:

This is a mandatory tournament, so as Santoro has a ranking which puts him directly in the main draw, he is automatically inserted into the entry list. Now, it's up to him to withdraw or not from the tournament, however I must say I find it weird that if he is really retired, why is he yet to ask the ATP to have his name removed from the rankings?

Great line-up to start. We'll see who falls by the wayside leading up to the tournament. Hopefully Nalby will make it - his match with Nadal was great last year and didn't end until past 1am in the morning :)

he said on French TV that now he's definitely retired.

Usually players don't ask the ATP to be removed from the rankings, that's the way it happens usually, Safin is one of the only players I know who willingly asked to be taken out.

Although there has been no official confirmation, reliable sources have told Peter Bodo, Senior Editor for TENNIS magazine, that Roger Federer will pull out of the Indian Wells tournament because of his ongoing struggle with a lung infection.

The way Federer said it, it was not "I don't know", it was "the doctors gave me green light" ... and the day before he had said "I feel well, waiting for the doctors' final approval"

Then I really don't believe what Bodo may have heard other than "I've seen him, his illness is really bad, you know". From a "reliable person".

I mean saying "the doctors gave me green light", then withdrawing would be strange indeed. Federer has never done anything like that in my memories. He may withdraw in the last minute, but he hadn't said before "I have green light, I can play" then withdraw. Never remember anything like that.

And Indian Wells is not the kind of tournament which dies so much at Roger that they would make something so strange just for promotion.

I didn't know Bodo was such a "reliable information" king that we could imagine something so new and so strange just because it's Bodo

He had a reliable source but not a reliable information, I think it's as simple as that ;)

From ATP website:
Harrison, a rising 17-year old star, played in his first Grand Slam event at the Australian Open earlier this year, falling in the first round in five sets. Two years ago he became the tenth player in the history of the ATP World Tour to win a main draw match before his sixteenth birthday and currently he is the youngest player in the top 300.

Could anybody explain me the contradiction between data from different sources regarding the points for qualifyers of IW who lost in the 2nd round of MD?
If we look at http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=156965 we see the following:
...
R64: 25 (Seeds: 10)
R128: 10 (WC: 0)
Q: +12
Q24: 7
Q48: 0
Above scheme is from the official ATP Code (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Corporat...D6DFB60FB&_z=z)
It means for me that the losers of 2nd round of MD should receive 12+25=37 points. Right?
However, if we look at IW page on ATP site http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/T...intsprizemoney (Points&Prize Money) we see

R64 25 11,500
R96 10 7,050
Q 16
Q3 0 0
Q2 8 2,100
Q1 0 1,075
According to this scheme we have 16+25=41 points for above mentioned loser of the 2nd round.
If we take as typical representative of such losers, for example, Rainer Schuettler, and look at his page http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/P...=2010&m=s&e=0# we see he received 41 points!
Why so?

Re: points for Masters

From: "steve"

Hi Jacques,

Yes, this is odd. Perhaps recently, they changed it from 12 points to

16 and did not update the rule book. Sometimes they tweak it along the

way and it causes confusion. I have asked the ATP and am awaiting a

response.

The rule is this:

* 12 points only if the Main Draw is larger than 56
