The only good thing about this result is that Nadal will have to come up with something good to beat Ivo next round.

Since you beat Legenda, time to beat Nadal

Yeeeeaaaah!

This guy is getting so much better in the baseline area. How he played that last TB, very impressive.
No chance against Nadal though.

Called it :yeah:

Ivo's ground game looked surprisingly good, hitting over his backhand and actually succeeding more often than normal.

Hopefully he will give Nadal a handful in the fourth round. Needs to serve very well though.

Yves.

Ivo has really improved his groundstrokes! Ljubicic just couldn't find any rhythm.

I think he has a chance against Nadal :D

His serving is something he does not have to worry about.

His serving is something he does not have to worry about.

Yes it is because his second serve isn't that great and he tends to stay back behind it... Nadal will win most of the rallies.

latso
01-22-2010, 12:43 PM
Why?
mainly because it's hard to play such game against highly jumping overspined balls.

Ivo's slices will touch the court much more rarely imo

And Rafa is a clutch player, so even in TBs, would be tough for Karlo

Today Ljubo played total crap. He really was crapping his pants and that was disgusting

Ivo has improved his game a lot. Nadal will have to work really hard if he's going to win the match.

Apemant
01-22-2010, 12:49 PM
Why?

No reason, I guess he doesn't want to hope too badly.

Karlo has a chance vs. anybody in the world, past and present. It doesn't mean he WILL beat anybody, but it's ludicrous to claim he has NO chance.

If he goes into ace spree, the match hangs on like several points; noone can 'guarantee' he will lose most of those points.

Of course, if he serves poorly, he could lose really ugly.

oooo...dr ivo will not be a walk in the park for rafa, i sense that rafa is going to have to battle really hard to get the W. im expecting AT LEAST 3 tiebreaks with this one

Great win for IVO & some much needed VCash for me. Thanks IVO :yeah: Wouldn't be putting any of it on him beating Nadal though, sadly.

I expected something like this, Ivo was a better player today and deserved to win. It was a good match, there was a lot of very good passing shots, and of course, great volleys.
Good luck against Nadal Ivo :yeah:

Yes, score was a bit closer than the match really was. Ivo had all sorts of break opportunities at the start of the 4th set and should have shut the door on Ivan right there. But I never felt nervous about what the result was going to be, and that's pretty rare in an Ivo match.

mainly because it's hard to play such game against highly jumping overspined balls.

Not much of an argument. Consider that Nadal's high topspin bounces high to normal players. Ivo is a giant. These topspin balls will not only serve to give Ivo time to get to the ball but also actually place the ball better into Ivo's striking zone. With a better groundstroke game, Rafa might have trouble.

Ivo plays his slices taking the ball low, with barely any bending of the knees, with a straight arm.

Taking the ball higher is much more difficult to weigh it right.

That's what i think. I could be wrong. But Ivo's return slices (taken high as players kick serve on him at the second) are totally neutral while his slicing inside the rallies is quite dangerous and hard to attack.

Betwen two top players, you can't put 10 big arguments for or against one of them. They are all failry equal (more or less) and certain details make the difference, especially in slams.

imo

Ivo to be back in TOP 20 this season

Victory for tennis. The good doctor has finally, in his 30s, laid his GS demons to rest. Better late than never. It's his first 4th round appearance at a slam other than Wimbledon.

Shame it has to be Nadal next round. The courts are slow enough for Rafa to get returns in play.

samanosuke

Why?

Because Ivo's BH slice will mainly go on Rafa FH

Because Rafa will be in up 70 with his first serve

Because Rafa will be much more aggressive then other Ivo's opponents this week

Because that he will put more return's in

And he is much better mover then others

Because...

No chance for Ivo

Still dreaming of an Isner-Ivo QF.

Looks like we'll have two top 20 players well over 2 metres tall this year.

I understimated recent improvements in doctor's ground game. Good job. Next match will be VERY interesting and I hope it won't be a letdown in terms of level of play. And the winner of the match :)

Ivo needs to bring back that hump-dance for Nadal. Even if he loses there, here's to hoping Rafa's rhythm is shattered before playing Murray in the QF.
