Average performance from Andy...I wasn't impressed at all
Thiemo showed some flashes of what he's capable of, hope he will reach the top 50 this year.

Great to see Andy winning without TBs. His level should be enough to make the quarters, though he can definitey play better.

De Bakker could be a solid top 50 player but not top 30.

Andy was never in any danger of losing this. It was a good match to practice his net game and work off the nerves and kinks.

Thiemo didn't play that badly the last two sets but he is no match for top players yet (if he ever is)

Yeah, just solid from Andy. Like it was mentioned, at least there wasn't any TBs.

Hope that was worst match in whole AO for Andy.

Where is serve :( ?

He was very tentative, you could tell that he was tight. But he moved pretty well and the serve was on (the return, not so much).

Also the courts look super slow, which is bad news for Andy going forward.

Comfortable win for Andy. Actually surprised and happy that a large majority of his shots were hit with length and weren't mid-court shit balls begging to be punished. Although he was never broken, the serve was quite tame today but I am hardly worried about that. Court positioning while hitting his volleys, however, was really bad.:o He should easily cruise to the quarters where he drew the best top 4 seed in Del Potro.

de Bakker, on the other hand, I failed to see where all this hype is about. I saw a handful of great powerful winners, but for the most part an average at best player. He has the power but simply fails with execution therefore making it a mute point in regards to how hard he can hit the ball. I did, however, enjoy the occasional variety in his game and glad he doesn't always try to hit the cover off the ball. I'd be shocked if he cracks the top 30.

It's a first round match that he won in straights and never really was pressured. What more do you want? It might not have been pretty at times, but just as Andy said when you have never played or never seen the guy play before it can be a little tricky at times.

dull match  but Roddick has a great draw so he won't have to play his best to get far. Maybe Bellucci could trouble him but I doubt he'll be consistent enough to win more than a set

I saw footage of this match and it showed that Roddick tripped on the foot of a lineswoman and went tumbling.

average match from roddick, but that was more than enough. to many slice backhands for my liking though, his slice isn't going to trouble good players.

his slice backhand was terrible, better players will put that shit away

Traditional early round tactics by Roddick -- good enough

de Bakker got Roddickominated

Andy clearly felt that the way to win this match was to push the ball and never go for a winner(other than his serve)....and it worked. Boring to watch, but effective. Good tune-up match for Andy...getting a feel for the courts and seeing where his groundies and net game are. Lets hope he turns it up a bit in the coming days.

Nice win Andy. Playing well and feeling his way into the tournament, winning comfortably without being spectacular :clap2:

It is a fact, very few people on earth can defeat Roddick more times than they'd lose to him, maybe only Federer and Nadal are safe bets :yeah: (I've never checked Roddick's head to heads with the other guys)

Murray has a good record against him.

yah roddick did trip on a lineswomans foot because she didn't move out of place in time. it was crazy, lot roddickdominator might actually have messed his ankle or worse, his knee. oh well, hope he continues to get better as he goes to round two.

De Bakker is a clown mug to the highest order. He has no strategy at all
