I know I haven't been around these parts for a while, but I've been to Gonzo's last 2 matches, and I now have a huge crush on him! Could somebody please translate the above? I love the Chilean fans, they're so much fun, and don't seem to mind me chanting along with them (what little i understand), even though I'm wearing the Spanish colours. Hopefully Pico wins quickly tomorrow so I can make his doubles match:)

those chants are R-rated, but the typical chant is "vamos, vamos chilenos que esta noche tenemos que ganar" (let's go chileans, this night we have to win )

....
....
....

...oh whatever, here the PG-rated chants :
"turco! escucha! andate a la chucha!" = "turkish! hear this! go
to >insert chilean curse here<"

"borom-bom-bom borom-bom-bom el que no salta es un turco maricon! = "borom-bom-bom borom-bom-bom the one who doesn't jump is a turkish >insert chilean curse here<"

Thank you so much for that. I'll be singing "vamos chilenos" with the Chilean fans when I see his match tomorrow (once I commit that to memory). I have to admit too that their anti-turk chants are funny too (not that I hate turks, but its amusing anyway, the one who doesn't jump HAHA)!!! I really need to learn more spanish:)

Loved the match today, scary, but so much fun!

Have to say, that I found out today what the Chileans went through. I had seats right next to the large section, and firstly let me say they made us feel like one of them for those few hours, and I couldn't complain about their behaviour at all! They did random bag checks for flares, which I thought was a good move, but they did it with about 20 security guards which was ridiculous, and they searched me because i have olive skin closer to the Chileans, but not my friend as they told her she was 'too white to need to be searched'. I've never been racially discrimiated against before (I'm of white Maltese background), so it was really strange, because only they were searched based on race. They also had their huge flag confiscated and apparently some guy had a whistle taken from his finger and bled (I can't verify that last part though). I don't think the way these fun loving people were treated was fair, and I agree with the sign they had saying 'we are innocent'

That is just... insulting. But I guess it doesn't surprise me. I saw people staring at me as I were some kind of terrorist in Europe... just because I'm too olive-skinned and too brunette... and too Latin American.. if you know what I mean. A Brazilian girl who travelled with me was stopped at the airport just because the color of her skin.

But anyway and back on topic... puño cerrado y adelante! :D

you gotta love the chilean fans! It just makes the game so much funner. When the chileans play here in Miami I go with my chilean shirt and cheer them on. The "We are Innocent" sign is hilarious! Funny how much security were around the chilean crowd even after they left the court. hmmm.

Loved the doubles today! Gonzalez has so much personality, and it was lovely to see. A drunk group of Aussies were being idiots and kept demanding a wave from him, which he provided multiple times, and then they went on to yell out that he had an ugly head (which is so not true), and 'to go and suck an enchilada' (which I have to admit I laughed at). But what really got me, was that they refused to shut up, were saying offensive things, and not one security guard in sight! But Gonzo and Ljubo managed to fight and have fun on court, and its been great to see him. I don't have the right ticket to see his match against Roddick tomorrow, but hopefully I can see his doubles on my final day at the tennis on Monday. Gonzo's now my #2 favourite:)

Not one security guard because they were Aussies. Simple as that.

Amen to that.

On the other hand, I can't get why people need to waste their energies insulting players they don't like. If you don't have anything good to say, just shut up... or go to cheer for the one you like. Simply as that.

i was stcuk listening to the last half of this match on the radio in the car with my family...it was terrifying and i couldnt help but almost cry when feña lost, i saw all his matches before this one and he played amazingly well and i really really thought he would be able to take roddick out, i think the reason i was so upset is because he desrves one more then most people on the tour instead of roger winning another one i think gonzalez should be able to win his first!

01-24-2010, 03:15 PM
I'm kind of disappointed... it was a very bad morning for me -JM and Feña out, :fiery:, not fair...

Anyway, I think it was his best match in the AO, he was very focused on his tennis until that incident at the end of the 4th set. It's very promising, considering that it's only the beginning of the year... and there is a long way to go.

I think he'll definitely win one of the big ones. He deserves that and more.

Sparko1030
01-24-2010, 07:22 PM
 Just watched the last 2 sets on ESPN2 (replay)-Fena was playing great tennis but of course lost his focus after he let the ball go in the 4th and then it was actually in giving the set to Andy. Very dissapointing but still proud of him overall. He could have just have easily won as lost. There are "what ifs" of course but that is how life goes. Hopefully he'll do better at the next slam. :)

I really wish I could have afforded to go to his match yesterday, hands down the best match of the tournament, but I'm really sad he lost it. He looked fine today when I saw him play the doubles, he didn't seem too fussed about last night. Unfortunately today was my last day at the tennis, so I'll just have to follow the scores from now on
