week 1 - Brisbane
week 2 - Sydney
week 3 - Melbourne

he needs one more to withdraw in week 1 and 2 to be seeded
he won't be seeded in Melbourne probably, but that's fine; if he's in good shape, he won't have to fear any seeded player and if he's not, no unseeded player needs to fear him

pame Marco :music:

ok... with 4 days until Brisbane we've reached the point where I get offically nervous:o, I so want him to have a good year, he deserves it with all the injuries he had in the last months/years :awww:

Thanks for creating the thread
I think it's better to have one big thread for every few tournaments, instead of him losing at one tournament in the first round and the thread has 5 posts in it ;)

I really hope he does good in Brisbane, because I really want him to get seeded for the Australian Open :)
A seeding almost guarantees him a spot in the third round since he usually does well in Melbourne so he'll only have to win one match against a seeded player to defend his points. Then again, if he's seeded between 25 and 32, maybe it's better to not be seeded since he'll play someone in the top 8 in the third round

As posted in the news/articles thread, January 1 is Family Day in Brisbane and Marcos is playing a mixed doubles exhibition to raise money ;)
WTA players Daniela Hantuchova and Casey Dellacqua will be there as well as former WTA player Nicole Pratt ;)

Brisbane MD:
[1] RODDICK, Andy (USA) vs LUCZAK, Peter (AUS)
BALL, Carsten (AUS) vs ZVEREV, Mischa (GER)
GASQUET, Richard (FRA) vs NIEMINEN, Jarkko (FIN)
QUALIFIER vs [6] MELZER, Jurgen (AUT)

[4] BERDYCH, Tomas (CZE) vs QUALIFIER
FISH, Mardy (USA) vs BAGHDATIS, Marcos (CYP)
LLODRA, Michael (FRA) vs LEVY, Harel (ISR)
CHELA, Juan Ignacio (ARG) vs [8] BELLUCCI, Thomaz (BRA)

[5] QUERREY, Sam (USA) vs BLAKE, James (USA)
GICQUEL, Marc (FRA) vs PETZSCHNER, Philipp (GER)
SERRA, Florent (FRA) vs QUALIFIER
DENT, Taylor (USA) vs [3] MONFILS, Gael (FRA)

[7] CHARDY, Jeremy (FRA) vs FALLA, Alejandro (COL)
CLEMENT, Arnaud (FRA) vs ODESNIK, Wayne (USA)
(WC) TOMIC, Bernard (AUS) vs QUALIFIER
(WC) MILLMAN, John (AUS) vs [2] STEPANEK, Radek (CZE)

Not the best draw, tricky R1 and if he wins he'll most likely get Berdych :scared:

I'm pretty new on this board, but I posted a few times in the Copa Argentina thread because I am a Nalby/Baggy fan who is pretty excited by the quality of play from Marcos in the Stockholm Open and the exhibition in Argentina.

I'm cheering for him to win in Brisbane, and hopefully he isn't drawn early against one of my other favorite players in the Australian Open, because in my mind he is back and a serious threat after winning back to back Challengers, his close loss to Rafa in Beijing (4-6, 6-3, 4-6) the ATP Stockholm Open title where he didn't lose a single set, and the recent Copa Argentina exhibition where he straight setted Gonzo and Pico. He lost to Nalby in the Copa Argentina final, but in all fairness, due to rainouts on Saturday, he was only allowed a few hours of rest before the final after beating Juan Monaco in a tough match (7-6, 7-5) on the same day.

Good luck to Marcos in Brisbane, Sydney and the AO. I think this will be a great year for him. He is a joy to watch and I love his personality. It was a real treat to see Nalby and him play again in December, although he did crush my heart in the 2006 Australian Open semi-final against Nalby.

Pame, Marco! :bigclap:

Thanks, Tom! My cat chewed the AC adaptor cord on my regular laptop to shreds, so I've been using my back-up until I can replace it. I need to clean this one up and install a new anti-virus program most likely. Everything is running horribly on it. It takes a minute to refresh pages right now.

yes Berdych in round 2 is tough, but Marcos is unseeded, so...

I think Berdych will be tougher than Bellucci on this surface, but I read Berdych is trying out a new racket, so maybe he will be a little off his game. Fish was a tough first rounder. Well, I thought Marcos was ready for this kind of challenge when I've seen him play lately, so bring it on. :armed:

I thought Fish looked pretty good today and gave a great performance, so that was an excellent win.

I would love to see Baggy vs. Roddick in the semis!

Marcos is now ranked #42, so he can't be far away from getting a seed, maybe in Sydney if he keeps playing like this.

I didn't see the match because I was at work. But I know some people who watched, and they just said that Berdych had one of those days where everything goes well and he was playing superbly. Marcos' serve wasn't working so well evidently, but no trace of an injury as far as I've been told. Must admit when i first saw the score I feared the same though

Congrats to Baggy in his first round victory over Lindahl in round 1 at Sydney. I've been too ill (flu..still have fever and am dizzy...), so I haven't seen any matches since last week, but I understant Marcos let Lindahl back into the second set from reading in GM. He needs to attack Troiki early and just put him away. Troiki can be easily demoralized if he gets down early, so Marcos needs to be agressive.

I'm still in shock over the Berdych match last week in Brisbane, but I'm going to just categorize it under one of those awful days where nothing is working right and Berdych played lights out. Berdych did the same thing in the first set against Roddick, but then went on to lose that match. I'm glad Baggy has these two tourneys to play himself back into match shape. His results so far have been far from predictable and it is pretty obvious his form is coming and going during any single match.

I know Baggy is really playing Troicki in Sydney on the 13th, but found this September Kooyong link that hasn't been updated amusing:

This came up searching "Kooyong atp". So he was in the field at one point for Kooyong in September? Did he withdraw from it?

Nice result to wake up to. :)
Poor Nalby just pulled out of Auckland due to an abdominal strain. The MRI was positive and he is doubtful for the Australian Open.

Oh, well. It doesn't make any difference. For a moment when I saw that link I was trying to figure out how Baggy was in Kooyong and Sydney at the same time. Then I saw it was dated September 2, 2009.

Good luck against Troicki tomorrow, Marcos! :clap2: This may be a tough match!

Tim - Marcos withdrew from Kooyong months ago - so nothing to do with David. He and his coach decided it was better for him to enter into tournaments with ranking points at stake to try and improve his ranking, instead of just exhos. When he originally entered Kooyong, he was quite low ranked and it didn't matter so much, but now, every win means more chance of being seeded and direct entry into Masters Series events etc, so it's more important. Hope that helped :)

Best of luck to Marcos against Gasquet in the Sydney Finals. If one forgets the ugly Berdych match in Brisbane, Baggy has been on fire since October. I hope he wins the final and does it easily so he conserves necessary energy for the Australian Open next week. But really, things couldn't be looking better for Baggy fans right now. It is a real feel good period to see him back playing with desire, great form and confidence.

I can't believe people in GM are getting so scared of Baggy that they started a thread on how "Hewitt is going to take out Baghdatis in the third round". Is this the ultimate compliment to his level of play that they are already looking for Lleyton to meet him in the third round and consider him enough of a threat to discuss what easy prey he will be to Hewitt? I understand the thread is rationalized as a complaint about Greek/Cypriot support in Australia, but c'mon, they are already talking about the third round and it is only Saturday! :p

Unbelievable! Baggy is back! Win Sydney today Baggy! :bounce:

Anyone else a little suspicious that Simon waited to announce his withdrawal until after the draw was released? Seeing Baggy in the 2nd round must've made those knees start to buckle.

I'm looking at the new draw now. Simon is now out, but they replaced him with Ferrer. That isn't much of a favor to Baggy, especially since Pics has played more in the past few months than Simon and is always dangerous. Ferrer also has a 2-0 H2H against Marcos. Crap! I was hoping for an easier opponent replacing Simon.

Gasquest's draw..........:spit: OMG...did he get lucky!! Toughest possible match-up would be Robredo in 3rd Round?!!!

I have had an interesting experience with his coach, girlfriend (I think), and Turkish fans at the USO this year so now I root against him, but not because he's Turkish, but because of the rudeness of his supporters, coach, and girlfriend (and they didn't even know I was Greek ). Anyways, there would be fights in the stand at the AO if Marcos played Ilhan, and of course the Greeks would be blamed

Pame, Marco! :bigclap:

Man, is he on fire since October! Andrew, if anyone (including me) gets the time, Baggy's Challenger and ATP record since he won those two Challenger tournies back to back last year should be calculated to show how impressive he has been lately. As you said, he has won 3 out of his last 4 tournaments, but it's even better than that. He kicked Gonzo's butt in the Copa Argentina 6-2, 6-2 (just an exho I know, but he looked great!) and took out the Mosquito in the first round in the Stockholm Open in straight sets.

Ferru scares me a bit because he looked good defeating Kolya in Abu Dhabi exho, and he is a relentless fighter, but he has been stumbling in the Grand Slams in early rounds as of late, so I get the thinking on that one.

Anyway, I saw the first set and Marcos looked very sharp and Richard was also playing well, but I fell asleep during the the rain delay and missed the second set. But I am very hopeful for a great AO.

What a mind blowing period this must be for you Andrew. I knew Baggy was back when I saw him win the Stockholm Open without dropping a set, including taking out the Mosquito. But he is even exceeding my high expectations since that time. Great pride is in order!:bowdown::bowdown:

Pame Marco!

No doubt his section of the draw is a nightmare with Ferru, Hewitt and Fed waiting in the wings. But I am sure he will be competitive in all those matches, including the Fed match should that occur, as he is clearly "On" right now and has already taken out Hewitt once in the past month. The Ferru match may be tricky, as Pics steamrolled Gil in Round 1.

One match at a time, as they say...
