Delpo in wrist injured and in doubt for AO (he withdrew from Kooyong)

xohxmyx
01-14-2010, 01:19 PM
i think its just a precaution well i hope it is, like he has a perfect chance of winning the kooyong chmapionship if he stayed in it which means he would only have one day before the AO starts and no time to rest and "mentally prepare" what ever that means lol i dont know but lots of players say that

cobalt60

Yeah, 4 hs 17 min I think it was. I didn't know much about Blake, I liked him, the match was so good because he was there too (a Delpo's monologue would be relieving, of course, we all want that but the fact that they were both so good made a hell of a match). I liked how he behaved, he looked courteous, saying sorry to Delpo after asking for the trainer, and being nice in general :yeah:

:haha:

I think Juanito, from observing his matches, goes through spells of exhaustion and 2nd, 3rd and 4th winds. Do you know what I mean? He tends to lose all his energy and focus much like Nalby does sometimes, and then wills himself to find that energy again when he realizes he is in trouble. The announcers are saying the majority of those 33 unforced errors came in the 2nd set. Ugly! But glad he came back. :yeah:

Here are the Head to Head stats. It is odd to note they were born only 5 days apart, they are the same height, almost exactly the same weight, turned pro the same year....look at all the odd similarities.

Crap! :(

Cilic earns his first BP of the entire match with Juanito serving at 4-5, 30-40, and he takes the second set 6-4. JM was spending too much time getting irritated at the crowd noise that set and wasted numerous BPs himself.

Overall, he looks very strong, but so does Cilic. The quality of this match is at a very high level. It is worth noting that Cilic is 8-0 so far this year having won the Chennai title. This is a very tough match, but if Del Pony can start converting those break points, he should take this one. But tough match...

Nolby
01-24-2010, 06:37 AM
Juanito is missing too many first serves since the Second Set began. :(
======
Anyone else watching this match think this is the best quality match by two players in the AO 2010 thus far? Delpo is playing at a very high level just to survive here as Cilic is on fire too.

6 Deuces in Del Pony's first service game of the third set before he manages to hold. Praying Cilic will start cooling off... 7-5, 4-6, 1-1

He takes it finally on an ace. Vamos!! :rocker2:
================
Unbelievable lob by Delpo, return of the lob with another lob by Cilic....ugghh Cilic holds despite all the effort. Still on serve...

Juanito is he getting frustrated, slamming the racket! I don't blame him: Toes have blisters, Cilic won't go away...Still on serve.

Another 4-5 Deuce service hold by Del Pony. phew!

Cilic is 0/7 on BPs this set. Clutch hold to say the least.

Crap! Cilic takes the third set on another shaky service game. Cilic leads 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.

Delpo's first service percentage in that set had to be very low.
----
EDIT: checking stats, first service percentage that set was low: 33 of 61 = 54 %

Edit: freaking iPod writes what he wants

Foot problem is with blisters on his toes, so not as much of a worry as his wrist. He's been trying to get his toes comfy and has had them taped, which has made it tough on his footwork. Cilic was exploiting it by hitting all these drop shots in the second and third sets to make Juan run laterally, but he has stopped doing it so much the last 10 games.

About me, I really dont have anything against Marin but :
1- he is the cause why Delpo isnt playing anymore, and the cause of that I have to wait till next tournament to see him.
2- he has forbidden me from watching the game of my two most favorite players playing each other! my favorite game! ( Delpo and Andy: BUT I LOVE DELPO TOO MUCH AWAY THAN ANDY)
3- he beat Andy!!!!!!

Actually, I think, to some extent, Marin and Juan are quite alike. Juan is a quite man and Marin seems also quite. And I find that the celebrating way Marin use, make a fist, and the expression in his eyes, is quite like Juan. Last year this time, Juan nearly use the same celebrating way and even the similar expression in eyes. Marin imitates Juan, hiahia~

I was a bit premature. Let's just wait and see his current form before predicting anything. :)

LawrenceOfTennis

He has waited too long. Too many bad things, too many injuries. Time for better luck.
I'm sick and tired of the top players, fu*k them all.
Vamos JMDP.

I can only assume to practice his volleys :p Bet they will have fun together! Also I read somewhere that the Davis Cup captain wants a backup doubles team of Nalby and JM just in case so again practice.

He will never learn. He needs matches, not one-month hiatuses.

LawrenceOfTennis
10-19-2011, 09:23 PM
I think it's time to consider retirement. It's clear he can't manage his career like a pro, skipping a month right after his best match this season. Seems like he's the victim of his injuries and stupid career management. His coach is surely an idiot. Even an amateur coach would have told him to not to miss important tournaments.
Now look at the result: old players well over 30 beating him easily. It is the LOW of this year.
Not much else to say at the moment. Disappointing as anything.

Carlita
10-19-2011, 09:36 PM
retirement? right :o

Why is it that when players lose a match they need to retire from tennis? Seriously?! :o

Bad day at the office......he's young and he'll bounce back.... I wouldnt worry about this. ;)

LawrenceOfTennis
10-19-2011, 09:40 PM
Wouldn't worry?
His season has been a catastrophe so far even if he's coming back from that injury. He should have easily won this tournament instead of crushing out in the 1st round to an old guy.

Carlita
10-19-2011, 09:43 PM
yeah wouldnt worry..... have you seen how blake was playing?

Seriously.... he's 23! His best years are still to come. So he lost today, to an "old guy"... big deal.... He'll figure out what he did wrong and fix it or try to fix it. No need to scream retirement ... please

but if you think he should retire, be my guest.... I think he'll be fine.

I see where Lawrence is coming from. This is not just one loss, he has been crap since Wimbledon and mostly because he chose to rest instead of playing.
You don't take a month off after the form he showed in the DC.
He needs better career management and surely a better fitness coach. I know he is tall and injury prone, but he was so much fitter back in 2009. Look at him now, he has put on some weight, he is terribly slow and lethargic. He needs changes, otherwise he might as well retire, because playing part time is not going to cut it.

Thank you Svetlana. You understand my post.

Anyway, we should not expect anything good in the rest of this season. Vienna looks an easy tournament, but he will surely find ways to lose the first match or the second.

lawrence i jus wanna give you a hug:hug:, i mean tbh i was always a fan of delpo, even when he first came out on tour, i wanted delpo to win his first ever slam, he was my fave to win the usopen back in 09 i chose him as my second fave to win(nadal my 1st), when i watched that match between delpo and fed i was cheering my *** off for delpo, i really wanted him to beat fed, when he won in 5 sets jus like when rafa won in 5 sets in wimby 08 i cried like a baby when those two won against fed in 5 sets, but delpo is still young and he will find a way to get back into former top 10 mode, give him some time im sure he'll find a way....

Oooh WTF in straight sets? Sigh. He should've come to Beijing and Shanghai, at least Shanghai. 1st, it's mandatory, make time for Davis Cup is just a CRAPPY excuse. 2nd, you earn more money attending a masters in CHINA. 3rd, you can meet with Mardy. Sigh. I rly don't see how he is making all his plans. His team is better than this, really.

Well? Slow clay in Spain will be very difficult but if the Argentine team don't believe in themselves and say they don't have a chance then they might as well not bother to show up. All I care about is that they do show and they put on a good fight for what they all want so much.

Onto Vienna!
